    I have been finding this story about the A's and your telling of it remarkably fascinating. I'm not even an A's fan. Dodgers fan living in Boston (long story). I am, however, a fan of baseball and the history of this game. MLB has been very willing to throw its own history to the wolves the last 25 years and what we're left with now are tainted records, copious betting opportunities while talking out of the other side of their mouth that Pete Rose should remain banned (vile human and DID break the rules...but walk into any ballpark in America and see how many betting ads you can spot. it's gross), and teams willing to move around the country and league like free agent players. I hate it all. The A's need to remain in Oakland and Oakland shouldn't be on the hook for this money. Billionaire owners should be paying for their ballparks. It's that easy. But they don't and taxpayers are now on the hook even if they don't go to games (different conversation for a different day).
    This is messy and A's ownership needs to figure things out WITH Oakland in mind. It's a travesty to have your team move as a fan and the A's base is facing this right now. I can't blame them for throwing in the towel and not wanting anything to do with them anymore. This is all really, really terrible.

    We're long time A's fans, never lived in Oakland. But this isn't about geography, it's about the owner taking a team down in order to make a better business deal for himself. We've been watching the way he's run the team, and well, hung in there, hoping he'd sell or the league would let him know what kind of business he bought into. It's not a bagel shop, or your franchised McDonald's. Maybe all of sports is dazzled by the huge returns that betting offers, and think that's the fandom they want. But if it's just entertainment, let me direct you to the Savannah Bananas. Great entertainment, probably good merch opps. But a baseball team has to build relationships with fans, and the overall brand has been built over the last century. To suddenly make it clear that it's about profit ONLY, well that's another course, but it doesn't inspire loyalty, merch purchases (birthday/anniversary/Fathers day) beyond what you can hawk at the stadium. You could probably open up a gamers lounge to enhance profit. We'll be rooting and following a different team until live non-AI baseball either disappears or wakes up. If these fans ain't nuthin but another dollar, that's how they'll relate to you. And there's alot of places to spend a buck.

      I agree. The last piece of merch I bought was a new home A's hat. I use to spend more on merch but refuse to coz I hate the owner and being looked at as an idiot for supporting a team that doesn't appreciate my fandom or intelligence. Eff fishstix.

      I'm an A's fan born and living in New Zealand. I'm doing the same. Fisher has killed my love for the current A's. I'm not going to follow the A's. Instead I'm focusing on the rich history this team has before Fisher arrived, and follow MLB players not teams.

    Yeah but the thing is Oakland is not going to spend the money to help the A’s build a new stadium local has good fans but it’s been over a decade and they’ve tried to go from all different types of for different new stadiums and it hasn’t worked out what is FISHERS supposed to do just say no if Las Vegas soft you good enough deal to go there or the team is gonna be a lot more valuable and worth a lot more money I mean you would be crazy not to think about it let alone considerate I mean part yes I feel bad for the fans but do you want to I agree with FISHERS but I mean you’re not spending the money to build a new boss ballpark in Las Vegas I mean yes I wish I could come to see an 80s game but I’ll go to the one the new steam is built in Las Vegas but how do you know there’s not other fans that won’t go to Las Vegas or won’t follow the A’s when they moved to Las Vegas if they’re loyal fans and their diehard fans then they might but it’s not fair to the players so either the players got a meal here this every day and then gotta go out on the field and do their jobs that’s one thing I would yell stop and think about them

    See this is aggravating me. I am an A's fan from Chicago I've been a fan since I was a kid 40 years ago I am 44 nowI remember Mike Davis, and Dwayne Murphy coming to the old Comiskey Park to play the Whitesox. I stood by and defended A's fans in Oakland I said it isn't their fault. I blamed Fisher and the city yes the city shares the blame by allowing it to get to this. But you saying me and hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of non local A's fans don't exist is an insult and angers me...And now makes me question whether the local fans are to blame as well. I am a true A's fan I have unconditional love since I have no connection to the city of Oakland . You people support taking the team's history and name from diehard fans like me. If you guys end up doing that I hope never get the expansion franchise and if you do you damn well know that wouldn't be the true A's. The Athletics is bigger than Oakland and if the city wants to continue to insult true fans like myself screw them. If you play games that you are trying to play the franchise should be in Philly since that is the true origin of the A's. The name and history stay with the franchise whether it ends up in Oakland, Vegas , or Timbuktu.

      @EricHeinze-uh9nn ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s still a valid point you really think A’s fans exist en masse across the country? Oh there is one person in Chicago who is a fan. Ok you are an exception to the rule. Not sure why it would irritate you. The team has a connection to the Bay Area community so of course we are going to be upset if they leave. It doesn’t affect you because you don’t drive 20 minutes down the road to go to a game whenever you want and build memories through generations. It’s more than just a team it’s about community. You can easily watch them on TV. We don’t want to be fans through a watch party or having to travel to Vegas and spend an arm and a leg just to go to a game.

      Like I said it’s different. You don’t have the experiences that I have so you really can’t say. However I have self respect and if a business is going to slap me in the face then I will maintain my own self identity. I get why them moving from Oakland means nothing to you. Safe to say we are looking at it from two different angles.

      @@EricHeinze-uh9nnAlso if I was a fan of the city I love I'd probably be a Whitesox fan since I am a Southsider...but since I remember I was wearing the green and gold. Love Chicago but it was good seeing them lose to my A's Thursday and Friday wish we took the series but oh well. I don't connect team love to city love I might be odd in that instance and never question peoples fandom...But my love for the A's knows no bounds. Again you guys ( the local fans)are losing my support if you make demands and ultimatums. It sucks for you guys but the city needed to build a new stadium and they declined I blame Fisher to but the city refused to foot more of the bill you guys should blame them too. Plenty of blame to go around....I even blame MLB with their bogus anti Federal League rule that limited where the A's could move in the Bay Area.

    I live in Southeast Nebraska, and have been an A's fan since they were in KC,and I feel that Oakland has been remiss. I have been a RAIDERS, Warriors and Athletics fan since the early 60's. Oakland has taken their teams for granted.
