I have been finding this story about the A's and your telling of it remarkably fascinating. I'm not even an A's fan. Dodgers fan living in Boston (long story). I am, however, a fan of baseball and the history of this game. MLB has been very willing to throw its own history to the wolves the last 25 years and what we're left with now are tainted records, copious betting opportunities while talking out of the other side of their mouth that Pete Rose should remain banned (vile human and DID break the rules...but walk into any ballpark in America and see how many betting ads you can spot. it's gross), and teams willing to move around the country and league like free agent players. I hate it all. The A's need to remain in Oakland and Oakland shouldn't be on the hook for this money. Billionaire owners should be paying for their ballparks. It's that easy. But they don't and taxpayers are now on the hook even if they don't go to games (different conversation for a different day). This is messy and A's ownership needs to figure things out WITH Oakland in mind. It's a travesty to have your team move as a fan and the A's base is facing this right now. I can't blame them for throwing in the towel and not wanting anything to do with them anymore. This is all really, really terrible.
We're long time A's fans, never lived in Oakland. But this isn't about geography, it's about the owner taking a team down in order to make a better business deal for himself. We've been watching the way he's run the team, and well, hung in there, hoping he'd sell or the league would let him know what kind of business he bought into. It's not a bagel shop, or your franchised McDonald's. Maybe all of sports is dazzled by the huge returns that betting offers, and think that's the fandom they want. But if it's just entertainment, let me direct you to the Savannah Bananas. Great entertainment, probably good merch opps. But a baseball team has to build relationships with fans, and the overall brand has been built over the last century. To suddenly make it clear that it's about profit ONLY, well that's another course, but it doesn't inspire loyalty, merch purchases (birthday/anniversary/Fathers day) beyond what you can hawk at the stadium. You could probably open up a gamers lounge to enhance profit. We'll be rooting and following a different team until live non-AI baseball either disappears or wakes up. If these fans ain't nuthin but another dollar, that's how they'll relate to you. And there's alot of places to spend a buck.
I agree. The last piece of merch I bought was a new home A's hat. I use to spend more on merch but refuse to coz I hate the owner and being looked at as an idiot for supporting a team that doesn't appreciate my fandom or intelligence. Eff fishstix.
I'm an A's fan who grew up in the bay area now in Japan. I will not follow the A's if they move to LV. I will just become a MLB fan and follow specific players if they leave Oakland.
I'm an A's fan born and living in New Zealand. I'm doing the same. Fisher has killed my love for the current A's. I'm not going to follow the A's. Instead I'm focusing on the rich history this team has before Fisher arrived, and follow MLB players not teams.
This has been something I’ve pondered for quite some time. I think I will opt to tune out from baseball completely if it goes through as planned. I lived in Japan for 6 years btw.
"We did an awful lot" means "we fumbled around for years without having a realistic stadium plan and pretend all that time wasted is Oakland's fault" "We've had some great players" means "we were too cheap to keep any of the good ones"

It’s still a valid point you really think A’s fans exist en masse across the country? Oh there is one person in Chicago who is a fan. Ok you are an exception to the rule. Not sure why it would irritate you. The team has a connection to the Bay Area community so of course we are going to be upset if they leave.
