I work in the flooring industry. If I were to recommend a flooring for this type of job I would recommend an SPC waterproof floor. Laminate is ok and cheap but it not a good long term option, and will be damaged by ANY type of moisture. And for a camper like this that's meant for the outdoors, SPC floors would be a GREAT option.
I refinish a lot of furniture I normally knock off what ever varnish or stain that was on there prior to get down to the character of the wood. Here recently I’ve been playing with Varathane white wash stains and they turn out really amazing.
A good home made clean recipe is 1cup ammonia 1 cup vinegar 4 cups rubbing alcohol or cheap vodka Dash of dawn dish liquid 1/2 cup trisodium phosphate Add 2 gallons of water in a bucket. This can be used as a spray or with a rag. This solution cleans just about any grime off of just about anything.
That new shop is coming in handy! Especially for an Avion travel trailer that wasn't too long. Surprised you didn't paint the cabinets with the doors another light color or white like the walls, but the way you cleaned and re-stained the doors sure looked better. Gotta go look at Part 2!
Mike - they also make rubber trim that will conform to any surface. Also - pro tip - bring a Wagner heat gun and slowly (yes SLOWLY) heat up the PVC trim - it will then bend and not snap! Awesome job so far!
Clean the wood as you did then sand with a 320 paper and add another light coat or two of new lacquer. Use solvent based lacquer as that's probably what they used on that age of trailer. They probably used a nitrocellulose lacquer and any Mohawk or commercial aerosol will suffice if you aren't set up with a commercail spray gun. Mixing the two oils was good to freshen both the colour and finish but it won't last long. 40+ years a commercial kitchen and architectural finisher here.
I understand this is on a budget, yet for me all the colors together feels too busy and don't match. The grey floor and the warm brown from the cabinets really feels out of place. Also 2 different patterned wallpapers in addition to that? Uff. Really love the layout of that trailer, you have a lot of room there! Congrats on the great find!
FYI Avions were better then airstreams and were around for a long time until fleetwood closed them down after buying them because they had no idea what to do with them. The unit like you have is a nice and well built one and will do well for you after this remodel.
I've installed thousands of sq ft of that exact flooring and it's by far my favorite laminate to install. Easier than any other product and the quality is great!
One thing I noticed doing my own airstream was that flex in the trailer lengthwise can pull the laminate flooring apart at the ends. I am planning on redoing the floors but installing the planks perpendicular to the walls of the trailer.
Glad you are using epoxy over the MDF counters, I would still be a bit concerned though. MDF does not stand up well to water at all so you'll want to make sure every surface/edge is sealed up, especially in the bathroom. Otherwise the MDF will swell up and it could look like crap. Good luck though, you're banging this out quick!
Sweet project! Excited to see it all come together! Heat gun or hot day would have saved some troubles with the PVC trim. When reinstalling cabinets and the holes are a bit stripped, jam a tooth pick or two in the hole, break it off flush and send the screw. It’s not the “right” way, but it is the easiest and super secure.
I don’t understand why you would go through all the effort of making it look better but then re stain the cabinetry and woodwork the same stain color as before. Doesn’t match the nice flooring at all and looks old.
You should put a large bed in the front where the dinette used to be, and then make the dining room where the two twin beds are. The layout is not ideal.
Hi! Thanks for again the videos, as always a pleasure and amazements to see what bright ppl can do :p My only start puzzling question was: why the airstreamer (sorry from Oz, an Aussie or such, not sure what this is), and not your bus (same I am not sure where Joshua's Tree is compare to your new property). Anyway, the look on all those is unbelievable. I was wondering about the timeframe of all, did it take you few days (I could count 3 days work if I am not mistaken. Unbelievably pro :| All my unfinished projects could really use some of that momentum!
Is it just me or does the cool tone grey laminate look weird with the warm tone cabinets? I think it would have looked better if he had taken the time to refinish the floors like he did with the cabinets
I met a guy who was a carpenter and worked for a company who redid the insides of things like this to serve as police mobile HQs. He said it was complicated work bc every situation and need was unique that you had to fabricate stuff for. If you run into difficulties, that may be a resource to tap for help
3:47 haha, you spent so much time in your bus renovating it you now call your "Airstream" a bus by accident😄 Fun project Mike, sure it'll turn out awesome and a nice place to stay while you work on the other house! Oh, and if you want tips on refinishing old furniture, contact Trenna from www.youtube.com/@johnsfurniturerepair - She is really good at this!
Calling an Avion an Airstream is like calling a Chevy a Ford, they are definitely not the same. Personally I always liked the Avions better but if you sell it as an Airsteam is called FRAUD!

Awwww, love this Mike. Congratulations on the new trailer. Cannot wait to see the finish.

I really appreciate how the danish oil looks. Can’t wait to see the end product.
Even though that trim broke, glad to see it was caulked over. Also, I was looking forward to seeing everything in breezeway 😂😂😂
This sure looks like an AVION. I had a 1983 V I lived in for about 2 years. Almost exactly the same as this.
A good home made clean recipe is
1cup ammonia
1 cup vinegar
4 cups rubbing alcohol or cheap vodka
Dash of dawn dish liquid
1/2 cup trisodium phosphate
Add 2 gallons of water in a bucket. This can be used as a spray or with a rag. This solution cleans just about any grime off of just about anything.
I re did my airstream too ! Thank you for showing me how too paint :)
Great video! Well paced, well edited and informative.
Absolutely love your energy! Looks great so far.
Man, this guy has the combined energy of a dozen squirrels and a high functioning Robocop. I love this channel. Makes me feel extremely lazy, though.
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
For wood refinishing, my favorite on TH-cam is Angie of Transcend Furniture
I love your honesty & declaring ‘clickbait’ for your title. Excellent video. Joe, Manchester, U.K.
Modern builds and Hardsoul Brother's channel always come with interesting content.
Wow, looks Great , Thank you for reusing most of it, i hate When people throw things out that Can still be used. Greetings from Denmark
I love that Mike had no shame when he said he wanted the clickbait. That’s honesty right there! ❤😅

LOVE this. Nice job on your floor install.
happy for this build

Looking good. Good job. Thanks from. Sc.
Great job !!!
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
I'm exciteddd
The cabinets need a clear coat cover to keep that shine. I don’t see it lasting very long without a clear coat.
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
Nothing on a budget is perfect. But you sir are getting as close to perfect as can be.
The PVC trim still looks pretty good!
Awesome video! On a side note, how many people have told you that you sound like the glasses kid from Polar Express haha? Keep up the great work!
Awesome. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.

Really love the layout of that trailer, you have a lot of room there! Congrats on the great find!
Agreed. That flooring is not fitting well. its just completely the wrong color with the cabinets
Love this but why didn’t you drive the Big Blue Bus?
FYI Avions were better then airstreams and were around for a long time until fleetwood closed them down after buying them because they had no idea what to do with them. The unit like you have is a nice and well built one and will do well for you after this remodel.
Love this can’t wait for the rest !
U make it look easy..
I wonder if a heat gun would have worked to bend that pvc trim without it breaking 🤔
I like the flooring, but I think the cabinets you should make all new doors out of flat plywood
I agree, no matter what he does to the rest of the place those cabinets are going to look dated.
I've installed thousands of sq ft of that exact flooring and it's by far my favorite laminate to install. Easier than any other product and the quality is great!

I’ve been waiting for this video 😅
maybe I missed something but what happened to the bus that you converted?
How fun. Great job so far.

This looks like so much fun!
Getting excited. Any your channel about to kick off. 😀
If youtube doesn’t work out theres always landlord for every apartment i’ve ever rented. 😂

Love this
MDF and water. Usually not a good match. Why do you use it in the kitchen and bathroom?
Because he doesn’t know what he’s doing
he said he will pour epoxy on it. Guess that might help? not sure though
Terrific job thus far on that trailer renovation Mike! 👍👍👏👏
Just FYI- I got the same flooring from HD n any liquid I mean any liquid - I don't care how quick I cleaned it up - it got swollen at the seams.
Looking good. I would raise the smaller draws up, then make the bench longer for more usable prep space.
Much love
Avion owner here. Please dont call your Avion an airstream. We are proud of Avions. Quality extreme!
I'm an Airstream owner/purist, but I LOVE the Avion also. Both classics, just like us "Wanda's"
Hey Mike! Photo tip cleann your lenses! You've been having hairs lately so yeah! Great content tho
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you

The cabinet doors don’t look very good if you want an honest opinion. Paint would do a great deal in making them look new.

Успехов с трейлером!
У меня вопрос: ты проверил проводку, водоснабжение и газ, прежде чем делать отделку?
Airstream or not, I think the body style looks cool.👍
Sweet project! Excited to see it all come together!

It’s called screen door mold just trying to help
Why not use the bus you renovated?
I bet if you warmed up the PVC trim with a heat gun, you could have bent them.
Looks great!
Good job you got a lot done ✅ 😮😊❤
Everything you touch turns to gold, or in this case, chrome! I'm stoked for the next episode.
The pvc qtr round broke because of the temperature.
I would have painted the cabinets.
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you.

Did he move back to OKC from Joshua Tree?
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
who is the person in the backround working?
Sick! I wonderedWhatThisKidWasUp2Lately.😲💪🤯👍
Think you need to stagger the seems of the flooring more but im no expert.
Neither is he lol

I don't know why anyone would use flat paint. I would have used at least semi-gloss for durability.
Looks good.man
Where's the bus??
Good question
What didn't you just use the bus you have instead of buying a camper?
Hi! Thanks for again the videos, as always a pleasure and amazements to see what bright ppl can do :p

Its an Avion, they are better. For instance of the quality just look at the frame but don't try and polish it, its anodized. Enjoy
Mike, I see the strategy. The playbook. The "get and renovate a temp abode to live in while I renovate the big abode adjacent"....thing. Hold this 👍.
Where are you from
Is it just me or does the cool tone grey laminate look weird with the warm tone cabinets? I think it would have looked better if he had taken the time to refinish the floors like he did with the cabinets
what happened to the school bus?
can i please have it when you dont need it anymore i realy like how you made it

But where is bus?😢
I ll watch your video when you know what kind of trailer you have.
Except, that ain’t no airstream
👏👍
that floor color sux, grey flooring needs to be stopped.
Nothing involving an airstream is a small budget, damn things cost a fortune for the shell.
You should do a make over, it's too old
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
When I hear “my first income property” 🤮
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you
1st... like anyone really cares... I doesn't matter, it's not a race and there are no prizes
Didnt he buy a bus to renovate????
Thanks 👍 for watching telegram me I have something nice for you.
Avion was far better than Airstream. Better built.
Boy do I hate laminate flooring.
Fucking love this channel!!
Calling an Avion an Airstream is like calling a Chevy a Ford, they are definitely not the same. Personally I always liked the Avions better but if you sell it as an Airsteam is called FRAUD!
