I've known about these long edge-banding rolls for a while but did have a project for it in mind until I looked at the price of solid oak for this project at the big box store. Instead of waiting for the hardwood supplier to open in a few days, I decided to give this idea a try!! It came out SO cool in my book and opens the door to more ideas using plywood to get a solid wood look- PRO finish while materiel prices are so high!! Maybe a bed in this style up next???
Q: Why did you go thru the trouble of cutting alternate 1” and 3/4” strips to keep the grain pattern if you then covered it in edge banding? What did I miss?
I really like plywood especially if its decent grade, the console would look great with or without the edge banding. Plywood as it is is hugely popular and desirable with also the ability to stain, paint or clear coat.

I think some advice for next time would be to include some "blanks" so like every 3rd strip, cut out the center portion leaving maybe 2" on the ends for supporting the door so it would look like this ------ - - ------ that way you can still get the IR signal inside for remote controls and if you have a game console or home theater receiver it can get some airflow

I have an 85inch tv hanging on the wall and the console I currently have is just to small and I want something new… I can’t find anything I like that isn’t $1000 or more… (no thank you) but I love the look of this and it gives me a great excuse to be in the shop making something.
