    Hi. Do you test your cast iron for lead? I haven't notice you mention it, but then I haven't seen all of your videos. If so, what product do you use? The swabs I have now seem to think there's lead in everything, and I know that ain't possible! Thanks.

      I can't say that I have, although it isn't a bad idea if you are really concerned about it. I haven't had any health problems yet, although I now use stainless steel skillets due to my hubby having high iron.

    I love finding them rusty. I use an e-tank and it's fun to see the changes.

      Thank you Adam. That hammered skillet is great. That is one I don't find too often at all! I have only found a handful in the past four years I've been collecting vintage cast iron in general.

      @ladylibertystacker2014  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mike and I agree 100% on the assist handle. I was making a meat loaf and using my unmarked Wagner No 8 (slightly warped so it is good for baking but hard on heavy recipes without the assist handle) and it was next to impossible for me to safely get it into the oven without tipping it over! I might just donate or get rid of that Wagner and use the Lodge instead for both cooking and baking because it sits flat! 😊

      That's the plan when it is profitable for me to do so or when I see a piece I just can't resist. I never thought I would get excited over a vintage or almost vintage Lodge pan, but this one is super nice and that cooking surface is very smooth in comparison to their current product line! lol 😊 Thanks for watching!

    Is there a reason you choose lye and vinegar combo to electrolysis? New to this and trying to learn the most efficient techniques

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all about personal preference and the room I have for the set up required. Having an e-tank is better if you process a lot of iron, but there is cleaning and maintenance required, maybe a bit more than a lye tank where you simply replace the solution every year to year and a half or so. It's super cheap (lye tank) and can also process a lot of iron, but maybe not as quickly. There are videos on how to set up an e-tank. I just chose not to mess with it.

    I just bought a 1980s Benjamin and Medwin, it was gunky. Did what you said but here's my problem: I use an electric roaster instead of an oven and the pan is just a little too large for it so I have put the skillet side ways, upside down and am seasoning it, will it come out okay or will it have new gunk from today's seasoning????

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I am not really sure. In my experience, it is important to make sure the seasoning is consistent everywhere on the skillet. Do you have an outdoor grill you can use to season? It might be too cold to use where you are, but just a though as I answer your question.

    My friend had access to laser cleaner we took a cruddy rusty skillet down to bear iron it 2 mins. No lye no e tank, it vaporized everything in seconds. Still way to pricey for now but wow.

      I think the challenging thing is that I don't have much room for additional pieces for my collection and finding the ones that I can restore for resell has been a bit of a challenge this year for video content. So I try and make everyday use of cast iron videos including cooking, cleaning, or maintenance tips and such. Now that you mention it, I just put up a new video of testing this new Lodge skillet with a 3 egg omelet filled with dietary tips on the ingredients used. Just so you know....😉

    what is(lye)

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lye is sodium hydroxide which is a chemical used in stripping metals of cruddy organic buildup. Heavy Duty Easy Off Oven Cleaner is lye with the main ingredient of sodium hydroxide. A lye bath is 100% pure lye crystals (sodium hydroxide) mixed with water. 5 gallons water to 1 pound of lye. Please watch tutorials before attempting this yourself.
