I bought 4 cast iron pans at yard sales this summer. I'm getting ready to tackle cleaning and treating them before starting to use them. Great video. I love the way he say "iron" :)

I restored the exact same Lagostina 10” pan a couple days ago! Great all round video for cast iron maintenance and care, Merci Dan!
I've watched many videos about rust in cast iron pans. Today your video appeared. Short, sweet, and to the point. This is so helpful because you take it step by step, explaining what to do and why. Thank you so much! I am about to subscribe.
I never promote brands, but in this case may I suggest buying the Ove Glove Oven Mitts. I've used mine (buy 2) for 5 yrs. They work as fantastic as they claim. Nice grip, no dish towels needed.
I used my Lode every day and wiped it dry, and applied oil and heated it after every use. It still got some rust spots for some reason. I went to dollaramma and got a steel scrubber and went to town, good as new.
I oil it only once & bake at 400°F x one hour. I even use a thin layer of Dawn when cleaning depending on what I cooked in it & I still only have to season my cast iron maybe 1-1.5 yrs.
You've got the use of baking soda and vinegar backwards! Vinegar is acidic and baking soda is a base, vinegar doesn't neutralize baking soda, baking soda neutralizes vinegar.
Making this right now for my pans but in the preview it seems you put oil in the paste , but after i see only baking soda and water? Could you enlighten me please ❤️ thank you very much
@5:58 I can't believe that actually absorbed and CLEANED that dirty pan. If we cooked and left for like 6 hours after a meal, would it be that easy then? A little water first, dry, and then do your salt and rub method? Thanksgiving next week, gotta know
Thank I got a 18 inch RUSTY pizza pan out of the dump, tried your method, after four or five times that sucker come back to life, coated it good and rubbed it with bacon grease, not new, but really close. Thanks.
I know it is not in the video but I have to ask. Do you wash the vinegar off or just bake it right in. I have never seen anyone do that i. All the videos I have watched but I understand about baking soda and vinegar canceling out. Thank you in advance for the answer!😊
Baking soda does nothing I don't know where you get that idea from Some people use baking soda and vinegar which cancel each other out It's the scourer that did the job, Why not use sodium bicarbonate instead of baking soda Not that it will do any good😂
Survey says: WAAAACK I haven’t seen pro chefs tossing cast iron out of their rotation. They still use them, they’re an invaluable asset to any kitchen, casual cooker to Michelin Star Chef. They literally last forever as long as you don’t heat or cool it too rapidly. Many folks inherited heirloom cast iron from previous generations, and still use them. Anywho, i do get where you’re coming from, brother. You be you! If that works for you, rock on with your bad self. 👍

You have the easiest way to clean. Thanks!!
It’s beautiful!
I’ve struggled to clean cast iron before. Chain mail and salt is a great suggestion!
Im glad it helped you 🙂🙂
What if you dont have a stove and all you have is a Fish cart to cook on @CookAvecDan
Thanks! Worked perfectly to recover a rusty skillet!
🤙
Best tutorial for getting your cast iron back to life! 😊
I LOVE Saving a Life........Even if it is only the life of a pan................
So darn slipperly... and good as new! Nicely done Dan! It truly is beautiful!
Thanks a lot 🙂
Wonderful! Thank you!
Thank you. Super easy and cheap.
He sounds like the Swedish Chef on the Muppet Show.

Lol
No chemicals. I love it.
Thanks 🙂
I have a new cast iron coming, this has settled my nerves quite alot, I was really worried about ruining it!
Also I love your accent! 😊

Thanks for the video! It looks brand new, that is exactly what I was looking for good job.
Thanks 🙃
Your videos are amazing, Dan. I'm jealous. They're so polished and precise. I hope one day my content is as amazing looking as yours.

Can you do a tutorial on stainless steel pans? How to cook, clean, and take care of them? PLEEESE 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why not! 🙂
Yes please 😊
Doing this today
Making this right now for my pans but in the preview it seems you put oil in the paste , but after i see only baking soda and water? Could you enlighten me please ❤️ thank you very much
Just baking soda and water for the paste. Oil comes later when you season it in the oven.
Baking soda does nothing it's the scourer that's cleaning it 😂
@@winniepeg2020 scourer ? What does that mean 🙈
can you use vegetable oil or olive oil instead?
Or use an angle grinder with a wire wheel and rinse and oil and bake
What brand is that skillet?
Why do you use olive oil as opposed to any other kind of oil?
I'm pretty sure he said he's using Avocado oil. Probably for the high smoke point.
Yeah you want avocado, Grapeseed, or other oil with an extremely high smoke point. Definitely not olive oil.
@5:58 I can't believe that actually absorbed and CLEANED that dirty pan.

Can you use a sand blaster? And then reseason?
Probably but it will make a mess
@@CookAvecDan thanks for your response
Can you use distilled white vinegar?
Probably
Which cost iron isgood
@@LalithaGidla-d1h i like Lodge
Can I use olive oil instead of avocado
You need a high smoking point oil, olive oil is to low
How did they survive on the Prarie 😂 they must have worked so hard. With no kitchen
@@eddie06449 ?
I clicked on this video because of the ‘quickly’ part in the caption
What kind of oil?
@@destinyjones8172 high smoking point like avocado

Let the vinegar dry as is, if you put water it will rust again
Great.....but if we don't have veniger at home what should we use instead of veniger
Didn’t work for me at all to remove rust.
350 what?
350 what? i hope not celsius

sodium bicarbonate is the chemical name for baking soda.
The 'r' in iron is silent. You pronounce it, "i•on".
I’m honestly regretting buying cast irons this is terrible
@@jacobrahe8726 they just need extra love
But the finish out come of the food is the best tho!
...or just don't neglect your cast iron pan.
Mine are all rescues
Too much work, would just buy a new one.
You sound like a very lazy human
Or, just throw the rusty pan in a local river and buy a tri-ply stainless steel one
No
