Nice collection! If you go to the Boonie Hicks site, it shows you how to date small logo Griswolds by the handle. The grooved handle like you have was manufactured 1950-1957.
Great and informative video. I just picked up two wagner ware skillets. One is piqua. I have a guy in my area who has hundreds of pans. He restores then and sells them on etsy. Since I live close i visited him at his home. The two pans I bought are beautifully restored. This guy has lye and electrolosis machines. Cheers
That is awesome. My family only used carbon steel and it was a griddle. They did not use any cast iron at all. But my mother before passing did buy a cheap 5” skillet for frying 1 egg and I took it as a heirloom
I've just discovered your channel. When I saw all that new stuff I thought you didn't have good ones and you do. I've heard it said that on the three notch Lodge blob that the blob indicated what shift produced it. All of my blobs have a 1, 2, or 3, stamped in them. The disamatic machines made thicker pieces with small pour ears. The iron also declined about this time. The no notch and one notch Lodges are slick as glass. Ugly hammered pieces have their own look, once you've seen one you'll know it the next time.
Hi Luis, I’m a new subscriber and new to CI. Excellent video describing and comparing the different #8 skillets foundries. It helped me with my learning curve. I like your CI philosophy, I have similar views on use & acquiring CI. I would appreciate your thoughts on if you lead test each CI you find at yard, estate, etc…sales? Thanks again for your time and sharing your channel with us!
So the story with Wapak is that they bought old Erie and Wagner molds. Some of their skillets did not match the Erie and Wagners in size and It's believed that they used an actual skillet to make the mold. I have 2 of them and one has an Erie ghost mark and the other has both an Erie and a Wagner ghost mark.
I am a collector but not the type to hang or never use. I have gone overboard with the amount of cast iron I own…. My wife is starting to notice the amount I own. 😂 Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment
It’s awesome I like it a lot. Their skillets, tortilla press, dual handle pans and dutch ovens are nice. The dutch oven knob is great but the washer and screw is not as well made. I have had great experience with Victoria
I have a "beautiful" (not ugly at all) hammered chicken fryer I picked up at an estate sale that I have been trying to identify for YEARS that has that same pattern your Wagner skillet does. It makes sense now as every other piece I bought there was also a Wagner lol. :) Great info, thank you for sharing.
Yes this is true…. But I have a large family and we get together every Sunday to make dinner. This is when I rotate my pans and use them to make larger meals. I typically cook for 15 people, and I cook with my skillets for hours.
@@bobhughes9628 gee bob, i never heard that one before.....believe it or not, that guy started shooting "the big chill" in my home town the very week i moved to atlanta way back in late 82............

I have a Lodge like yours - cooks great! My grandmother bought it new from the factory and I am soooo happy to cook in it!

Good going.
The “ugly” has very big hammered surface big and random. It’s very unmistakable after you see one, you will know.

wapak used a lot of erie copied molds early on they could have used other makers pans as well
Love the skillets. The easiest way to pronounce Wapak is to do it in Spanish.
Thank you for the kind words and for the tip.
Thoughts on victoria?

Noice
Can you send me a link to that cast iron company for that waffle iron? I can't find that post you put up.
If you go to my channel you can find my community posts but here is the link.

one disadvantage to owning so many skillets is this makes it hard to build up that acquired seasoning from cooking.............

William Hurt, Hollywood legend, good to hear from you from the great beyond.

In the cast iron community we call them scratch pans….you never know what you might find.
