MyKayla Skinner APOLOGIZES To Olympics Gymnastics Team After ‘Hurtful Comments’

- MyKayla Skinner is apologizing once again for her comments about the 2024 U.S. Women’s Olympic gymnastics team. Although the Olympic medalist previously apologized for her controversial remarks, she further clarified them in a lengthy statement shared on Instagram on July 6. “It was not my intention to offend or disrespect any of the athletes or to take away from their hard work. Your hard work and dedication has paid off and I congratulate each and every one of you,” she wrote. When reflecting on her comments, MyKayla said it made her think of her own experiences under previous women’s gymnastics coach Márta Károlyi and alleged abuse she faced. “Upon reflection I was comparing the ‘Marta Era’ to the current era,” she wrote. “I am coming to terms that I have not fully dealt with the emotional and verbal abuse I endured under Marta that perhaps led to my hurtful comments. I take full responsibility for what I said and I deeply apologize.” Mykayla sparked controversy in a since-deleted TH-cam video for saying, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t like what it used to be,” she said in part. “The girls just don't have the work ethic, and it's hard to because of SafeSport. Like, coaches can't get on athletes, and they have to be really careful what they say."

Historically, she speaks before she thinks. She could benefit from an editor. At this point though, with so many gaffs, who has time to pay attention to Skinner anyway? We have an Olympic Team to support and marvel over.
Temu loses tons of followers and probably sponsors, so she is forced to offer an apology drafted by PR.
To summarize, Skinner said the work ethic is not the same as it was during the Karolyi era. The depth and talent does not exist as it did when she was competing. Did I miss something? There is not much to misconstrue. She is comparing her experience with the current teams and saying they are coming up short.

there was no need for an apology in the first place; people are allowed to voice their own opinions by way of their own personal experiences. last time i checked this was still a free country, and freedom of speech is still the 1st amendment of the constitution of the united states of america.

It is not a blank check to say whatever you want and expect zero negative reaction from everyone else.

She body shamed one of the girls who has been battling two separate kidney diseases. Yea, she absolutely should apologize. 🙄 esp after criticizing the sport now that it’s SAFER after one of the worst cases of child SA. 🙄

True for what? 🤔 She doesn't learn the code and thinks difficulty >> everything. She already got cleared by Nina on her signature event in Tokyo. Nina was only doing two easiest tumblings. Where is her "work ethic"?
Nothing she said was true and making such a statement after one of the worst cases of CSA we’ve probably ever seen is nothing but disgusting.
