Can't speak for the petrol engines but I'm familiar through forums with their issues. All I can say is, I'm on 520 000kms on my Tourer diesel now(first engine) and still enjoying the car from since I own it... shock absorbers last up to 80 000kms??? First time I had to change mine were at 380 000 (front), the rear ones on 420 000... The springs broke some time earlier though, the rear ones being the first to go (was somewhere around 200 000), the front ones followed about 50k later. Further issues (although I rather can mark them as normal wear): alternator went at 320 000, front discs first replaced: 370 000, rear ones at 450 000. The original exhaust lasted (admitting doing a repair on the mufler attachment) up til 400 000kms! One issue that was not down to 'normal wear', is the intank fuel pump which left me down at 180 000, but since I replaced that with the samesized but better pump used on some Peugeot models, this replacement still lasts till this day (touching wood of course! :-) ) and most af all (and you might believe it or not): I didn't have one clutch issue on my manual gearbox but that's just because I've made it my own to practically only applying the clutch pedal when setting off. With the car rolling, I shift gears back and fourth on the right RPM without having to use the clutch. Shifting back only requires a bit of lifting on the RPM to shift back smoothly. People who are driving along never even notice that I do it this way and then I have to prove it to them taking my left way fram from the clutch pedal and shifting. Only thing I need to do, is to fill the master cilinder every now and then, but that every now and then is somewhat about every 50 000? I can't even tell because I don't keep score on that. It's less than once in a year anyway. :-) As far as bushings are concerned: (just like on any other car) once replaced with polyutherane, you're rid of that sh*t forever. I don't have a tester T4, but there's a fantastic app made by Polisch Rover-enthousiasts called TOAF.

Make sure you have plenty of spare cash. Leak's here there and everywhere. Corrosion big issues, brake pipes corroded front to rear, watch out head gasket failure, overheating on v6 2.5 stop straight away. Coil springs break can puncture tyre, sill corrosion, diesel version pain to replace alternator, leaks to ECU. Still a lovely looking car. But beware check MOT status a must.
