    Fey. Your well loved . We need more car girls. I used a shim ( the thickness) you used on a FE big block 390 cu. In. Ford and it changed the oil pressure so much higher the oil filter blew up like a baloon. From then on I used shims in the thousands of an inch such as .010 to make the pressure desired.

    I just got my 86.5 last April. I bought it off a flatbed while it was heading to the scrapyard (makes me feel better seeing your junkyard save). In my head I was thinking 1j or 2j. But then I got it to run after it had been sitting for 5-7 years and realized it was still in okay shape considering what it had been through. Then the title came in the mail and I realized I was only the 2nd owner. So I feel obligated to rebuild out of respect. I also feel obligated to swap out pistons so the 10 psi of boost is little safer.
    Since it still runs okay I have been fixing up cosmetic stuff (just welded shut my rusty butt) and putting off the motor rebuild until summer. So I personally appreciate the videos. I love forums for help but seeing is always better then just reading for me. Also the odometer on mine says 260k and she is happier with thicker oil and I don't feel bad about it. I like being able to cruise in it while I get stuff done.

      YESSSSSẞSSSSSSS I LOVE THIS COMMENT!!!! I am so stoked you saved it and kept the 7M! My first build went 220k before the original headgasket gave out, and I used 20W50 towards the end and never had an oiling issue! Noticed the coolant was disappearing and finally knew I had to do something about it before it got worse and made my rebuild more expensive. Little did I know I would choose a terrible machine shop (back in Portland Oregon) and made it the most difficult and expensive rebuild of my life!

    Fascinating. I suppose that you know as well as I do that the only way raising the maximum pressure will improve the performance at idle is if the relief valve is not very well implemented or the QC in manufacture is not what it should be. There may be something else that we don't know about so I'll accept that it's worthwhile. As for Aisin grinding off the Toyota name, and I understand it's them doing it, it's always done for aftermarket sales under their own name. OE parts from Toyota have the name left on and this way Aisin don't need to retool. I suppose they go through a few Dremels. ;-)

    Not only is the 90 in the stock oil tube but banjo holts are VERY restrictive. Look at the tiny holes in the bolt vs. The size of an 8n steel braid and fittings. On my performance 7m builds (done quite a few I am old and have a kid into Supras) I remove every banjo fitting and convert to an lines. Yes the squirters are banjo but I dont always use turbo blocks and if you use forged pistons squirters arent needed. I've built many non turbo blocks to take a lot of boost with no squirters and no failures at reasonable settings.

Just wondering what the consensus is now in 2022 on what actually needs to be done and what is available. I have a 91 that will be getting built, and I don't want to do any outdated (unnecessary) work to it. Back in 2004 the forum was littered with ideas (so great and some no so great), which by now should have been vetted. I'm hoping to find a list of mods that are tried and true. had no idea you went over 7m engines, got my hands on an mx83 cressida with the GE, plan to keep it NA + light mods as a daily that i can also have a bit of fun with. definitely getting the stiffer spring
    update: ok so the stiffer spring only affects maximum pressure. you probably do not want this too high at higher rpms as that can lead to problems. really the only thing that can improve the oiling system are getting rid of the awful banjo bolt setup for the pipe that goes into the block, and reducing the gap between the oil pump gears and the lower body/pickup tube of the oil pump.

    I have the 7MGE blues😢 Bought my mk3 1 1/2 years ago after it sat for nearly 20 years because of a BHG & RK. After an entire rebuild for some strange reason the Bronze helical gear on the oil pump was sheared off. Started all over and decided to add DM larger oil tube, Eagle rods, ARP head stud kit & a Cometic MLS head gasket. It was running beautifully and then….. it happened again (Your & Danny’s thoughts on that would greatly be appreciated). The Machine shop guy’s and I wrapped our heads around the shimming process and believe in the end, for 7M’s, the pressure is questionable but higher volume would be a safer solution rather than high pressure. Also, what are your thoughts on the oil squirter‘s? The previous owner of the GTE block I bought recently deleted them because it has forged internals. I’ve got a TON of questions!

    I'm not likely to every find myself working on a Toyota oil pump, but it was still an interesting video. But... I'm assuming there's a particular pressure you're looking for, so I wonder if there's a way to measure the output and be sure you're getting what you want out of it before you put the engine back together? I'd be afraid I'd put everything back together and find it just ain't quite right. But that's just me; I'm persnickety.

    Great videotorial, Faye! As indeed supramania seems to stay down I've also made a lot of information and pictures available on my site for conservation purposes. Would you mind if I'd make some screenshots and add them to a 'shim the oil pump' tutorial? Of course with proper crediting and a link to your channel. Thanks for helping keeping the 7MG(T)E's alive!

    I've been driving Supras for years and never had an oil related issue on the stock oil pump. is this only something you need to do if you're making more power than stock?

    • @FayeHadley
      @FayeHadley  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, if youre going to be drifting or driving aggressively and sloshing all the oil to one side of the pan or could potentially dry suck from the sump. If you're a careful 7M owner, you should have no problem. Most issues with this engine I believe are caused by neglect.

    I have a 86.5 7mge. Has been setting for 10+ years. Had the motor replaced and the mechanic that did the job did not do some things right. Had to take it back for oil leak problems several times and were never fully fixed. Then the bolt that hold the harmonic balancer sheared of in the crank. I parked it hoping to rebuild one day and I have not had the opportunity. The ? Is would any of your enthusiast be interested in purchasing it. I hate to see it set and rot.
