Lets face it. A lot of us would never have expanded out cooking without Jamie. I know this is a simple recipe, but cooking with halloumni cheese in this way was never something i would've considered. His use of fresh ingrediants, used in a speedy manner.......the man is a national treasure. Love from an Irish fan.
I have done this with halloumi (as in the video), with feta & parsley and with buffalo mozzarella & basil (added the cheese and herbs just before serving, after taking the pan off the heat + more for garnish). I think I actually prefer the feta and mozzarella versions, although the halloumi one is good too. Was going to add some kalamata olives to the feta version, but didn't think it needed them. Very quick and easy 20 minute dinner, whatever version you do. Going to try it with parmesan or pecorino next...
Orzo is wonderful. I live in a rural Canadian village and it’s readily available. It’s stuff like halumi cheese that we have trouble getting unless we go to a bigger centre.
Though Greek I 've never had kritharaki (orzo)cooked like that but I will certainly try it. You made my mouth water despite just having had lunch. Thank you
Being Greek Cypriot, me & my non Cypriot wife still have to grate our separate cheeses for pasta dishes as i will only have Halloumi and she doesn't like it 😂
Nice classic! Actually the traditional Orzo ("Kritharaki") in Greece is made with flour & milk instead of water. In some areas there is sour milk used, even eggs! It was a method to conserve those ingredients throughout the year.
@@oksalbright No idea unfortunately, my grandma used to make something similar but that time I was way too young to appreciate the value of such a recipe... Yes sour milk is close to buttermilk. However now I'm thinking, maybe they used normal whole milk and flour and then let the dough to ferment a bit and get that sourness... Let's try to apply plain pasta recipe and replace the water with milk and then see... 🙂
Are you sure your grandma made orzo? I'm asking because the description and the ingredients you've given point to trahana (an entirely different traditional Greek pasta), not orzo. Trahana is made with milk and eggs.
Hey Jamie !! Had been in one of your cafes in India. Food was really amazing. Everything we ordered reminded me of you and the way you cook. Your legacy has been transferred successfully 🎊. Great job mate.
Jamie you're the man! I'm following you since my teenagehood and I have to say you're maybe the only northern chef that loved and understood the Mediterranean cuisine that much. Love from Greece sir!
OMG. I can't wait to try this! Anything more than 5 ingredients and I won't cook it (and I'm someone who loves to cook so much that I went to culinary school briefly many years ago). But I just don't have the time or energy for complicated recipes. Plus, groceries are SO EXPENSIVE these days!🙄 I'm learning to do more with less. Thanks for the inspiration Jamie!
The book of recipes looks so good. I’m hoping those recipes fit in well with the Mediterranean diet my doctor has me on to lose weight before surgery because I want to try those recipes.
I made this with 2 tins of tomatoes and Risoni instead of Orzo… not sure if the Risoni was the problem, but the ratios were way off. I had to strain half the liquid away to make it work out. Still lovely in the end
I recently saw your 5 ingredient cookbook on Kristen and Jeorge TH-cam channel and will be ordering your cookbook! Can’t wait to try this recipe looks amazing!❤
Oh noes I have to wait until January for your book :( I love how you grated the tomatoes. I like to grate onion, too. And I would def add hot pepper flakes!
Also in Asda, got some today, was only 75p a bag on offer - already have the Tesco one (also on offer £1.20) so will compare them. Sainsbury's have it as well but it's £2 a bag!
Brilliant hack with the pasta in the tea-towel. So many years and Sir Jamie always has a new hack on hand.
I have been watching Jamie for many years, he is at another level now - mature, educational, obviously talented and easy to watch.
False.
Same here. Has always been my favourite chef ❤
Where has his cockney accent gone? He sounds posh now lol!
I've been watching him for years also. One of my favorite chefs.

The base (orzo+tomato sauce) is incredible. Did it with fresh oregano, green olives and feta. Simple but delicious.

@@mellowmarkable Do you think I could use Ricotta instead of the halloumi? (I find halloumi too salty for my taste buds)
I love orzo, so versitile. Also a little tip for anyone weaning babies; use it for spag bol - not so much mess and saves washing!😊

Here in Cyprus, we always grate halloumi on our pasta. I've never met anyone using Parmesan cheese unless you go out to a fancy restaurant!

Jamie Oliver is famous for f*cking recipes up. You should know this by now!

Always loved Jamie ..best cook / chef with excellent personality can't wait to get his new recipe book. He makes me want to make his dishes ❤❤❤
THANK YOU for the spaghetti-to-orzo hack. I can't find non-wheat orzo locally but I do have some non-wheat spaghetti. All the best!
Nice classic!

That is the flour and water ratio, please? Is sour milk same as buttermilk?

Buttermilk is the same as greek "xinogalo" which translates to sour milk. Same thing

@@kourtourafi indeed, she used to do both and the recipe was similar. Just Trachanas was more sour
you're such a BLESSING!! Thank you for all your recipes....God bless you.

Going to start harvesting seeds to plant a garden next spring and going to use the tomato/grater hack to help extract the seeds. 😍😍😍
Good one for my son to try ,simple and tasty . Thanks Jamie
I cook this recipe .. the same but instead of orzo we put rice ..and it's so yummy . Specially in winter . and you can make it with pasta or bread
That's called risotto..nothing to do with pasta 😊
Splendid delicious ! 🥂cheers and thanks for a gorgeous recipe Jamie O. !
I made this and..... It was delicious.... Thank you for sharing Jamie.

I like the Spaghetti Hack, I am so Happy for You ❤
Nice. I made it n so lovely! Trust your cooking recipe, always! Easy n few ingredients👍👍👍Your r good jamie oliver!
Nice and ripe tomatoes we don't have here in the Netherlands most of the time. Hard, green ones that definitely don't smell.
Gewoon lekker even op de vensterbank leggen. Dan zijn ze zo heerlijk rijp en geurig!
4:38 sooooo satisfying 😆

You amaze me Jamie how you eat your dishes, straight from pan to dish to mouth!! 😮 🥵😂..... another great recipe, thank you.
From Brazil: I will make this recipe!!! 😋👍🏻
Oh noes I have to wait until January for your book :(
I love how you grated the tomatoes. I like to grate onion, too. And I would def add hot pepper flakes!
im loveing it!what"s the happyness happend~~thank you~
Looks great! Also consider toasting your orzo in some butter/olive oil before adding to the sauce for extra flavour as well :)
You can find ‘aged’ halloumi which is harder than the squeaky halloumi in Turkish/Greek food stores which is much better for grating over pasta
I've never thought of using the box grater for the tomatoes even though it glares at me every time im in the kitchen 😂 cool hack👍🏾
Hi Jamie, imUwe from Hamburg Germany.
i met your old friend Tim at the toilets in his restaurnt......Bullerei.
u both inspiratet me to cook! thank you
Love the hack for breaking spaghetti! Thanks!
Your spaghetti to orzo trick made me laugh out loud! 😂
It's like a risotto. Much more could be done now. e.g. mushrooms or vegetables.
We put orzo in rice, it elevates the texture. Slightly fry it in butter until brown then add the rice and water.
Very helpful.Thank you.
I am always around when someone's messing up with spaghetti 🤣
Recipe looks delish btw :)
Salut Mr. Le Saveur Cook😄

Wonderful guy😍😍😍😍😍Love this!
Awesome
Absolutely Brilliant 🙌🏼
Hi Jamie, do you think you'll bring out a 5 ingredient book that is solely just vegetarian or vegan ingredients?
My goodness, definietly I will make the Vegan version of this this😋
I prefer the "passevite" (or "Flotte Lotte") to the grater. It's safer!
Sounds amazing
Own the book but love watching you cook 💜
Jamie forever!!! Best in the game
THAT'S pasta? Wow, I really am learning.
Looks gorgeous. Almost like a creamy rissoto
Jamie, have you ever made a Mac and cheese tutorial???
Kritharaki!
This looks so good! I love how he just loves food and flavoring :)
I’ve always loved your videos.
Cypriots eat a lot of pasta and have many traditional pasta dishes, though this is one I have not heard of.
Seems easy
