    The perfect place for groceries is the street market, in Greece it's called laikí ağorá. You can buy fruit, vegetables, fish, nuts and eggs. The rest you can get from a supermarket chain like Sklavenítis, Alfavíta Vasilópoulos or Lidl, etc. The only problem is that street market is only once a week 08:00-15:00. But if you can find time, you can ask the locals what street and what day there's a market. It's really worth it, because everything is cheaper and better.

      Thanks for the info! When I lived in Rhodes city we had a big market every saturday and smaller market on wednesday. Haven't yet seen markets open in smaller villages near south Rhodes but I will ask around. We are usually going to Lidl to buy as much we need for month and also Bazaar and finally local shops for smaller everyday stuff. As we do not have a car then we are planning ahead a little bit 🤗

    Bureaucracy in Greece: unfortunately, nobody gets it that it is so pointless, stupid and harmful. Nobody, neither the politicians nor the citizens. It is incurable.

      I hope it changes on day but. When I calculated then it took me total of 3 months together just to get basic documents into order. I see it as a lot of waste of time and resources🙄

    Thank you for your video.
    I like the simplicity of your descriptions.
    Where are you filming from? What town, or island are you in?
    In terms of the pointless bureaucracy in Greece; I agree with you. It's pathetic. And I think it's because they want money at every turn. If not, then have your 'fakelaki' ready. It's bad & what's more incredible is that Greeks in Greece think it's fine & normal.
    Once again, thank you for your vlog. I'll be watching more from you now. No ego, just sincere honesty which I like.

      Thank you for your kind words! They mean alot to me 🤗 I am a simple person 🤪 At the moment living in Rhodes, first year was in Rhodes town but from this year we moved to Kiotari in south Rhodes and slowly expanding to other 227 Islands in Greece. Island hopping series starts from september so we try to spice things up. Most of the videos are done about this island. I think about paperwork - every time I go and sign a document, it seems abit weird that someone has a job to watch if you are the real person who signs this document. I am pretty sure these things are that way and won't change because they are keeping jobs for Greek people. I always wonder how is it to work one day as a "signature watcher" 🫠 I am trying to make more Greece vlog type videos, I have to think some good video ideas 🤗

    Thanks for the video, some very interesting things that you wouldn't otherwise notice as a tourist 👍 Are there things that particularly surprised you after emigrating that you never thought of? Or are there things you would have done differently if you could go back in time?

    • @looneytravels
      @looneytravels  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! One thing that surprised me after emigrating was the how locals invite people over or order something if houses do not have any addresses, house numbers or street names. At the moment I live in unspecified road on google maps😅 The second one is that if you say you live here then you have to learn greek. Probably every Greek we meet asks if I speak Greek and if I say No then they like force that I have to learn Greek. But the thing with that is, the more someone forces you to do something, the less you want to do it. It is almost the same someone comes to me and says I have to be Vegan and eat vegetables from now on and no meat for the rest of your life - that is the reason we say we are Tourists when going out. Second topic that is impossible to explain to locals is explaining that you work at home on computer or youtube. If you don't work in a hotel - you are nobody. Now on we kinda avoid these topics in conversation. I would not change anything because I believe every step we make is good for something but we don't know until we watch our choices 1-2 years back and connect the dots.
