The best choice for you was that you went to Epirus. You will need 20 days to see the incredible beauty of the place, the next time you go there. Take notes:
    1) Mikro Papigo village
    2) Ovires Rogovou (beautiful gorge near Papigo)
    3) Ask the locals or at the hotel, where you will see the most beautiful stone bridges (150+)
    4) Acheron river and necromancy (very cold river, but you can walk it and reach the narrow gorge, horse riding is possible)
    5) Ancient theater of Dodoni
    6) Parga and Sivota (beautiful beaches and villages)
    7) Trek/climb to Drakolimni (2050m) starting from Papigo (there is a shelter to eat and sleep if you get tired at 2000m) and many springs along the way.
    8) Where you swam, since the Spring there is the possibility of rafting (many levels of difficulty) amazing experience!
    9) Sources of the Voidomatis River (this very cold river is the cleanest in Europe and is permanently 5-6 degrees Celsius)
    10) Aoos River Dam
    11) Ioannina, the capital of the region, beautiful with a nice lake and perfect food
    12) The best time to visit is: May - November
Welcome back, this is Greece really 80% mountains...

Greece is not only white and blue houses and beaches of course... The mainland is magic with great mountains and rivers. This is why Greece is lovely, because it combines everything and you can switch from some beach to 2000m height and the opposite in 2 hours most, by road, from every spot in the country...

Great. And very smart Jacob! What do I mean with that? So. Greece has 6000 islands. Which is a paradise. But even the islands, only 30 islands are mentioned and thoroughly loved, while the other 6000 islands are unknown but equally gorgeous. When I say Astyphalia, or Samothraki, or Symi, or Folegandros, or Ithaca, or Thassos, and so on, they are all in-credible islands, and yet much more unknown.
But that is then just the unfairness done to the 6000 islands of Greece. But the biggest underrated, undermentioned and the greatest secret of Greece is its 80% mountains that make up Greece. Greece is a mountain paradise and the mainland for example is overfilled with mountain beauty and geoligical beauty. Vikos gorge and Meteora are only 2 examples of that. But The Aoos gorge (close to the Vikos gorge) is an equally impressive gorge, with stupendous beauty. Or the Tzoumerka mountains, or the dragonlake on top of Mount Tymfi, or Pindus mountains that extends to a wider hundreds of kilometers downwards. Or Agrafa mountains, or Mount Olympus, or Rhodope mountains, Kerkini lake with the mountains rising around. Or Evrytania, or Karpenisi to Prousos and the mountains there. Or Taygetus mountains, and countless other things. The point is that Greece has so much mountain and landscape galore, it's a crime so many visitors of Greece aren't known to it

5:00 That's a mixed "Greek Shepherd" dog, judging by its tail and the spots. Greek Shepherd dogs are so clever and so connected to the man that they are considered as great companions, but they are not for pets or guards in a house because they need to do long hikes in the nature every day otherwise they become very depressed. As their name suggests, they are used as guards and guides in flocks. They can endure in harsh environments and rugged terrain so they are more preferred on the mountains.

Next time go in the summer to the town of Vikos just to enjoy the source of that river right in the middle of the gorge. You walk 20m there is no river, walk back 20m and you have a pool fed by thousands of springs, another 20m and you have the river.

The reason for the shivering is the sun and the big diference of your skins temperrature to the mountain water :) it can be avoided by throwing some water on your skin before you go in and also half's the possibility of a cardiac arest. The restaurants in mainland are usually more tasteful because they are not touristic as we use to say which means they don't depend on tourism to survive but on their quality.

@@Jacobgribbin Don't mind this guy! Unfortunately there are still some Greeks like him, who have never been anywhere outside their village and still have an opinion about everything with arrogance and conviction, the clear signs of a fool!
I toured the American South about 6 years ago ( I've got relatives living in Nashville, TN and arranged to pay them a visit) and I LOVED it, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas have become some of my most favourite places I've ever visited! Generous, hospitable, good-hearted people, great food and amazing scenery! Had the best time of my life!!
Unreasonable anti-Americanism is unfortunately still a thing in Greece as in much of Europe too! Us Greeks above everyone else should have realised by now that people are not defined by their governments...
