  • It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing the Atari Lynx Game Drive (Gamedrive) by RetroHQ. This is a flash cartridge for the Atari Lynx (models one and two supported) that can allow for Atari Lynx games to be played off of a single cartridge. It's basically an everdrive, but not an everdrive.

Lynx is such an underrated console- it can also have multiplayer of up to 15 players. I put a high quality screen in it and it has made it so much more enjoyable. I have a gamedrive as well and it has been fantastic for the crazy amount of homebrew for the system - Lynx Quest is an amazing game.

Lynx surprised me enough, word of the Jaguar getting one as well though sends it into the realm of 'did I really hear that or did I imagine it?' usefull if I was to get my Lynx & Jag out again though, would have to plug the Lynx in with the mains adaptor though as even the mk 2 eats batteries like Pacman eats dots

The QR code thing sounds like copy protection to prevent cheap clone knockoffs. (IE the code may actually have a serial number embedded in the code, so if it shows up on two devices, the second is disabled as it can't get updates...)
Kinda smart though creepily similar to what phishing campaigns do (send an email that goes to a website that can only work once to keep researchers from being able to redownload for research...)

The game gear had a higher resolution lcd and could display twice the amount of colours (32). I think the 16 colour pallette is what really makes it feel less advanced in comparison to a gameboy or game gear.

Hey big question. After watching My Life in Gaming's most recent video about ever drives, I came to a thought involving the Master System and Genesis. The SMS has a library of Stereoscopic 3D games like Missile Defense 3D which I actually have a copy of and I wondered, can I port this over to my Victor Wondermega? I started researching and I immediately thought of the Powerbase Converter but I'm also aware it won't fit the Wondermega unless I cut the plastic which I'm not willing to do of course. I then found another option that has the SMS Card Slot called the RetroN 5-3 in 1 Adapter. One person made a short video demonstrating that you can use it on the Genesis to play SMS and GG games so far, he didn't have any card games but I'm sure the result's the same. If the card slot works I can plug in my SMS 3D glasses setup and play 3D games on the Genesis or Wondermega in my case. What do you think Adam Koralik?

@@AdamKoralik UM!? putting the RetroN 5 3 in 1 Adapter shuts off my Wondermega? I was expecting this to either work or not work, NOT POWER OFF! Someone made a short video demonstrating that it worked on the Mega Drive, the Wondermega should be the same exact case! Something's wrong, I believe it's just a lack of power, or does it need to be updated to function period? What do you think? Wait, I should ask Mr. Mario.

Interesting. The menu is more pleasing than the Elcheaposd for sure. The barcode thing could be to protect the device from piracy of the device itself, ie. Your device has a key that can only decrypt the firmware file delivered to your unit. On the other hand, this is the one with the truly open source menu code. Elcheapo says it is, but if you have to go ask and maybe get it, it really isn't.

    Glad you liked it! 😄
The whole QR code / unique firmware update thing is purely to protect against clones as much as I can (it's been somewhat rife recently). And there is a different code each time you update so you can tell if there actually IS an update available for you.

There are something like 300-odd JagGD carts out there currently. The largest proportion are in the UK and US.
There a lots of post over the net, there are plenty of videos of people playing games on it. I'm really not sure what there is to be skeptical about. I have a 100% track record of getting what I say will be done, done. It just can take some time! Making hardware in any quantity isn't an easy task, and this is a hobby / part time endeavour for me, and it is solely me, no-one else. So try and taint your skepticism with some reality checks of what can physically be achieved by a single individual in their spare time. Here's a dead-easy way to do it -- put yourself in the same position. How do you reckon you'd fare?
Anyway, first batch of JagGD carts in a while are in production right this moment, stock will start moving more freely (as with my other carts) in the coming months. Feel free to be skeptical, feel free to disbelieve, it really makes no odds to reality. :)

The sd card for the atari lynx was never supposed to be existing at all, because the lynx lacks a hard reset feature, HOWEVER, by isolating the the pins and then rejoin them back together, a hard reset can be simulated, and since the lynx does not give up to reattempt to load a game in it’s memory, a multi rom cart or in this case an sd card became possible, not only that but this way we can overcome that 512K limit as well too by creating lynx games wich could load it’s data into cluster files one after another into the lynx, sothat we can make them as large as we want,
We had ever tout that we could change things from the past and turn it around ,by simulating a hard reset, we can finally justifie the decissions from the past in that the lynx was lacking a hard reset feature ,all thanks this ram isolation trick😁😁👍👍
