    I don’t think I could have done it without the video. Huge thanks! The toughest part was getting the bulb ballast loose inside the headlight. I finally pried it out.

    It’s ridiculous that you have to remove the fascia to get the headlight out. But with that said, thanks for making the video!

      I agree, it is ridiculous! It's a sad day when folks have to go to a shop to replace light bulbs.

      I just went to swap the bunbs on my 14, didn't know it had HID package, just that the yellow colour lights are not bright enough, so I went and bought a good set of bumbs and went to install them and like a schmuck, found HIDs. After watching this I just called the dealership.

    That silver thing on the bottom of the headlight assembly is the ballist or driver for the HID bulb. That plug the goes to the bulb the other side goes to the ballist. You can unscrew it and see two connectors. One will be the wire from the blub the other is the connection to the cars wire harness. Ford sells the HID ballist for about $135 each.

    • @darkancient
      @darkancient ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been looking for weeks to find where the ballast is for these headlights, and your comment is the only thing I have found that tells me where it is, so I thank you!

  • @jroalan
    @jroalan 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The bumper cover DOES NOT need to come off. Magnetize your T-10 torx screwdriver, and pull the screws after disconnecting the wire (which would be a pain with the assembly in or out of the vehicle).

    @gezbruh3303 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How long does everything take you? How long do you imagine replacing both would take? Ford tried charging me $620 saying it would either be two or 4 hours.

    • @haroldg556
      @haroldg556  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly doubt it would take a good mechanic that long. However, if you plan to do it yourself, provide yourself 3 to 4 hours. That will allow you to not be in a rush. This procedure is not labor intensive, but it does take a fair amount of time to take everything apart and get it back together.

    What is a "striker." You mention it at the beginning of the video, saying "it might have a bad striker."

    • @haroldg556
      @haroldg556  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The striker, also known as an ignitor, is responsible for starting the light with a high-voltage pulse.

  • @udayanganad
    @udayanganad ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @harold. I tried to share a quicker way how to replace these. But TH-cam doesn’t allow. You can take the rubber cap off from the headlight. I made a video where you can replace the HIDs under 5 mins. Search for it.

    • @haroldg556
      @haroldg556  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the suggestion, but that method is if you have standard halogen headlights. HIDs use the exact same headlight lens, but they are mounted inside with two small screws. Then you have to unplug the HID right at the edge of the opening, which is deeper than rubber cap. I tried workarounds to keep from tearing the vehicle down, but that is the only way to do it.

    • @udayanganad
      @udayanganad ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2011 Limited with HIDs. I will make a comment here with the account where I uploaded the video. So you can see the video in that channel if searching isn’t giving the result. One thing that’s different from yours is I do not have the screws on the lamp mount but the same HID lamp. Wonder if you just open the rubber cap and use a magnetic screw driver to unscrew and twist the lamp in yours may be with pliers if you can’t reach.
      I was able to reach the lamp with my hand but couldn’t see.

    • @haroldg556
      @haroldg556  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would likely need to have the HID headlight assembly for that to work. While halogen bulbs simply turn in, HID bulb are held in with screws. HID bulbs also require a power driver. However, you could upgrade to LED bulbs without changing the headlight assembly. With that upgrade, though, you will likely need to re-aim your headlights. An LED upgrade is cheaper and easier than HID's.
