DOESN'T TEST FOR NERVOUSNESS BUT LITTERALY THE CHANGES THEY ARE LOOKING AT IS CAUSED BY BEING NERVOUS. MANY COPS WITH PERFECT RECORDS ARE IN JAIL NO OR HAVE BEEN FIRED FOR CORRUPTION. STOP LOOKING FOR PERFECT CANDIDATES AND GET RID OF THE POLYGRAPH.

I had to take two Polys to be hired into Philly PD back in 2015. Honestly - whatever you put in paper. That’s the reality. The Paleographer will try to manipulate you into admitting to horseshit that you don’t need to admit to. Just remember the 5th Amendment of the US Constitution.
I’m surprised I passed it. But than again, I can speak a second language, Polish. And they apparently really liked that.
I’ve met people who passed and they still failed them. And I’ve met scumbags who lied and they passed it.
Lying is death in law enforcement but a polygraph should NOT be an end all be all. Some people are troubled by it after they fail and give up on Police work because of it.
It’s a test of your integrity - doing the right thing when someone isn’t there. Police work is a lot of working by yourself or with a partner who may or may not be the ideal human for police work.
Do I think Polys are necessary? Yes! But do I think a negative stigma on someone should be put on them because they failed, maybe. It depends on what they lied about.
Remember to reflect deeply about your life before you put pen to paper. It’s all about wising up to your past and moving foreword into your future.
I think PD’s should allow someone a second shot. As long as they’re willing to admit they messed up and they learned from it. But, not everyone shares my feelings/views on it.

That's exactly what they're looking for, people who admit their mistakes and take responsibility. Here's the thing, almost everyone did stupud sutf in their youth. So admit you smoked put, admit you tried coke, admit you shoplifted that toy when you were 13. Admit you smashed mailboxes or tagged a wall or cheated on your 8th grade math test. They don't care about that stuff. In fact it makes you a more credible human. As long as it wasn't felonies and it was a long time ago, and you've matured, that's what they're looking for. I agree failing a poly shouldn't be a mark against anyone. Some poly examiners aren't good or just clash with people, where another poly examiner would have passed you. If you fail a poly yet told the truth, you don't wanna work for an agency that uses B grade poly examiners anyway.

The machine is BS except they work because some people fall for it. People get scared They fall for the head games. They weed out idiots but they can be beaten. Hansen, the FBI traitor was selling secrets to the Russians and beat the polygraph more than once.

Taken 2 polys and passed. The whole thing is interview and test, not just the part when you're hooked up to the machine. In fact the part on the machine is probably the least impactful part of the whole interview. It's what you say and do before and after that is scrutinized most. What I didn't like about them was the head games, especially where they try to scare you by bluffing, saying the machine had some [bogus] indications, even after you've told the truth. Yes, it's easiest to be honest and if you've done that, stick to your story! Act calmly, coolly, confident! Don't over react and be dramatic, even if they try to scare you! Don't reverse yourself over trivial stuff. I hate the poly, it's junk "science". It's really science fiction theater. But understand why agencies use them -- enough idiots people fall for them that they're deemed useful. They work when people believe they work. It's just a machine designed to put you under pressure, it can't tell if anyone's lying. The whole LEO hiring process is just a machine designed to put you under pressure and see if you crack. The pysch part, just don't be an idiot and you'll pass. The process is designed to weed out idiots. If you stay strong and play the game-- even when you're stressed, nevous or scared, you'll make it. If you freak out at any stage, you're probably done.

Remove the poly and maybe you’ll get quality people

I agree, it's a lazy screening tool. Put more effort into back-grounding people. You may weed who the ones who might beat the poly.
