    What a sweet guy! Thanks for the vids, I find myself imitating your accent as well as taking notes on the process, which is concise and easy to follow.

    David Smart said everything i wanted to. Great ideas, and I really enjoy the sound of your draw knife cutting through wood. Thanks!

    Just made a spoon mule of my own today using your video as a guide. Love it. Next on the list is to tackle the shave horse unit. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Rick, count me in as a new subscriber! Your video on the smaller version of the shave horse was great and I wanted to see this one as well. I think I will use pegs to hold down the top by putting two holes through the sides of the table so they pass through the center of the head. Then put one peg in from one side and the other from the opposite side-staggered. I too have a tiny shop and I'm just thinking about it breaking down even farther. I love how you just wing it. I'm the same way and some of the best ideas come from that type of building. I'm going to scrounge around and see what I have and hopefully avoid going to the store. Thank you for your videos!!

    Wow great job! I'm just getting in to spoon carving and have been just using my hand as my vise. I'm going to the lumber yard tomorrow! :-) Thanks for sharing~!

    I made a shaving horse and a spoon mule but workshop space is at a premium. This is a very neat solution. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Phil, it's been working out well for me. I also use the base as a sawing bench when I need one.

    Thank you for your video. I'm almost done with the spoon mule attachment. The sticks are giving me trouble. I'm a novice and you make everything look so easy.

    It works very well. It's more for the 'out in the sticks' bodger lifestyle because you can do the work on a bench with a vice or a jig.
    Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.

    I made a longer base with folding legs from other videos, but I've been trying to work out the attachments. Your shave horse and spoon mule attachments look like just what I want. Have you made a bowl carving attachment yet?

    Very nice and functional. But in my mind, not that I’ve tried to make a spoon yet, I’m not understanding why the shave horse wouldn’t work for spoons as well.

    Very cool addition to the original horse. I do have a question though. Could someone combine the shave head with the spoon head? Would either affect the performance of the other? Other than needing to remove the spoon arms? Subscribed!

    Man...You've done all my thinking for me!
    Thank you very much for posting this.
    With workshop space tight (does anyone have 'too much' room?), this will be perfect going straight into my vice.
    Subbed.
    PS The accent reminds me of President Kennedy; same area of the country?

    What advantage is the spoon mule over the shave horse.

    • @RickMayotte
      @RickMayotte  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get in close with a draw knife, something that's much more difficult using just a shaving horse.

    How long before you build the bowl horse attachment?

    • @RickMayotte
      @RickMayotte  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I tend to build these things as I need them so probably a few months yet but if it's something you'd like to see I could make it sooner.

    Will they both work to make spoons.

    • @RickMayotte
      @RickMayotte  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use a shaving horse to hold a spoon blank but it would not be as easy to use a drawknife to shape it because the lever would get in your way.

    LOVIT, new sub here for sure ! Will build both and the compact size is ideal for my small shop ! What was the third use for the same Shaving Horse ?

      Adding to my post as being compact I believe I see a way that the legs can be folded up and remove the head for storage and set back up depending on what Head you need !
