2009 Chevy Cobalt inside front door handle replacement

My 2009 Chevy Cobalt driver's door handle on the inside would not open the door and was not returning to it's normal position. The video shows how I repaired the problem without removing the door panel.

This does actually work. It is very easy to repair. I used a fork and a screw driver. Very easy to install and that satisfaction for saving a dollar than going to the mechanic

Thanks Dave. Got a replacement latch from Rock Auto for $18 and did myself in under 30 minutes. Probably saved $200 plus from not having to take it to the dealer or other shop.
One note though. When unclipping the cable, the cable might disappear. It does not fall down inside the door, but rather goes up above the door latch opening. I almost panicked and started taking the door panel off before watching the video again and checking above where it was hiding.

My mom's car is 2008 model. Her car has same problem. I saw your video last weekend and I ordered the replacement. I just installed it. The only problem is that the cable in her car is really short. It can't pull out. I used my left hand to put the black part in place and use screw driver to push down the black part and it is clipped in place at the bottom (this step took me 20 min). It is very useful video. Thank you.

this happened to my 2006 Pontiac Solstice and the part was not available. The inner door handle for the Cobalt is a perfect fit!

It is a little more difficult if you don't take the door panel off.

I have the exact same make and model and for some odd reason the cable is not the same length as yours and ended up having to take off the whole panel to get to the damn thing
