    You know, I really wish Dreamworks would just go on and make the series of sequels they originally planned. I get that the movie tanked at the box office, but I really think enough people love it now that they would be successful. So come on, Dreamworks, please make it happen. No more of that Trolls and Boss Baby bullshit!

    I have to admit that for the longest time, I've always considered this movie a bit of a guilty pleasure, in that I could always get far more invested in this movie than I ought to. True it does fall short on it's potential and how great it COULD have been on several accounts, but for all the things it gets right, it always lifts my spirits when I sit down to watch it. Ironically, this movie was meant to serve as a pilot to a series of sequels and TV episodes before it bombed.
    I won't argue that Kline's and Brannagh's singing wasn't great, but you know what? Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnsons's singing for Moana is also technically not great, but his energy in the role makes up for it (ironically, I can't help but paralleling 'You're Welcome' and 'It's Tough to be a God', because the two songs have so much in common).

    The volcano moment was an extremely meta joke about the butterfly effect.

    5:29 I mean, I guess one could suppose that they made a deal with the gods; but that would open a whole other can of worms and probably transform the entire story, since it would involve new implications; such as what each party obtains as benefits, the possible ulterior motives the gods could have, or even what would happen if either party broke the deal or crossed a line

    I still really enjoy this film but I'll admit, nostalgia plays a big role there. It's a good movie but sadly, nothing more. It does what it's supposed to do to be good, good animation, good characters, good music.

    We don't know that gods really don't bleed. Just that the priest(forgot name) believed they didn't. I have a theory that Tolio and Miguel are human incarcerations of the gods they're believed to be, but don't know it. That, or they're demigods(again, they don't know it) and their god parent(s) are helping them out. This would explain all the plot conveniences, the volcano, and the bleeding thing.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the film fully confirmed that they were incarnations of gods, then i'd believe all the conveniences, but that's not the case.

    • @genera1013
      @genera1013 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jambareeqi it's just a theory of mine. It would be a good thing to explore if they ever made some sort of sequel. Why was it so easy to find, and since when do volcanoes start to erupt and just quit? Someone in the movie should be questioning it. The volcano thing at the very least.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh it's a good theory, don't get me wrong, I just need solid evidence to believe it myself.

    tulio and miguel kinda remind me of timmy and chloe from fairly oddparents. one is a plan-savvy voice of reason with a questionable sense of morality. and the other one is an energetic optimist with a heart of gold.

  • @donajivenegas1705
    @donajivenegas1705 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know is way too late and maybe someone has already mentioned it before, but Tulio and Miguel don't just happen to look like El Dorado's Gods. Historically when the Spanish people came to conquer Mexico, the Aztecs genuinely thought this men were Gods because they had never seen white men or horses and that's why they welcomed them like deities and of course the Spanish took advantage of that. I don't know if that also happened in South America but yeah, it wasn't that much of a plot convenience more like a nod to history.
    Anyways I loved your review and your detailed style of score, I actually agree with a lot of points and some I've never thought before. Thank you very much.

    4:40 to 5:00 - If El Dorado had taken that adventure direction, wouldn't that have turned it into yet another Indiana Jones ripoff?

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can make an adventure film without copying Indiana Jones, it just takes a fresh imagination. Indy doesn't hold a claim over an entire genre.

    I grew up with the Spanish dub and I LOVE how animated the voice actors sound. The singing is also HELLA BETTER in that dub too. It also seems fitting since Miguel and Tulio's language is supposed to be Spanish.
    Speaking of languages, how the heck are they communicating with the natives?

    • @alanfoster6589

      Because dubbing all the locals language in Nahuatl would strain the eyes of an audience.

      @DoveJS 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please experience Calvin and Hobbes, even if you only read a single comic strip (although some of them have continuity, so I recommend starting with a random Sunday strip in that case.) It's about a boy and his stuffed tiger. 💖 I own the three volume hardcover complete collection and it was totally worth the money, but you should be able to find some strips online for free. :)

    Weirdly enough, some of the plot contrivances are based in real historical events actually related to Hernán Cortés (hi, I'm Mexican hehe), in our history there were two men (Gonzalo Guerrero and Jerónimo de Aguilar) Who got stranded here and one of them actually maried a mayan princess, he is often called El Padre del Mestizaje and even died fighting for the freedom of mayan people against his own people. The other one, was eventually rescued by Hernán Cortés and helped him in his conquest. When Cortés arrived in Tenochtitlán, The aztecs really thought they were gods because Weirdly enough they really looked alike the human form of Quetzalcoatl, Who was prophetized to return from beyond the sea.

    Great review but theres only one issue I take with it. El dorado isn't on some random island, its in south america. The continent. Which is an easier place to get stranded in... I will admit though them landing in the exact spot where the map specifies is far-fetched

    • @MamaLuvDuv
      @MamaLuvDuv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      also yes cortez was a colonist but even in real life he was threatening, he basically wiped out all the south american civilizations in one foul swoop and arguably performed the most successful genocide out of all the europian colonisations. And he wasn't facing tribes but actual full on city's and civilisations.
