    The Road To El Dorado Movie Description:
    Two con-men (Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh) get hold of a map to the lost City of Gold, El Dorado. After stowing away onto one of the ships of the Spanish explorer Cortez, the pair escapes and eventually do find the city. There, a priest (Armand Assante) proclaims them to be gods in a scheme to win control of the city for himself. Meanwhile, they meet a beautiful girl (Rosie Perez) who helps them in their ruse.
    The Road to El Dorado is a 2000 American animated adventure comedy film directed by Eric "Bibo" Bergeron and Don Paul in their feature directorial debuts, from a screenplay by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, as well as additional sequences directed by Will Finn and David Silverman. Starring the voices of Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh, Rosie Perez, Armand Assante, and Edward James Olmos, the film follows two con artists who, after winning the map to El Dorado in Spain, wash ashore in the New World. The map leads the two men to the city of El Dorado, where its inhabitants mistake them for gods.
    The soundtrack features an instrumental score composed by Hans Zimmer and John Powell, and songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice. John also periodically narrates the story in song throughout the film. Produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures, it was the third animated feature produced by the studio.
    The Road to El Dorado was theatrically released in the United States on March 31, 2000, to mixed reviews from critics and performed poorly at the box office, grossing $76 million worldwide on a production budget of about $95 million. Zimmer's work on the score, however, received praise and earned him the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Score alongside his work on Gladiator. Despite its initial reception, reevaluation in later years has resulted in The Road to El Dorado becoming a cult classic.

    I really hope you read this .. I'm Mexican and by your question in the minute 21:08 , there are things that are historically accurate.
    First, "El dorado " it's more part of the Colombian culture. Sometimes people confuse an think is Mexico cause he had a lot of gold too. But the place is Colombian.
    The people , clothes , hair and faces . That is pre-Hispanic Mexico.
    Several aspects of pre-Hispanic Mexico are woven into the story and the background scenes quite faithfully (within the limitations of a cartoon!): Cabezas gigantes (Olmec) heads, (largely Maya) hieroglyphs and names, monumental stone sculptures, the returning gods, murals, masks, hallucinatory dreams, Los Voladores de Papantla (Flyers’) ceremony, the idea of a world ‘age’ (of the Jaguar), exotic flora and fauna, human sacrifice, the ritual ballgame - invented and first played by the gods - in which the losing team might be sacrificed know as the " El juego de pelota " or "Tlachtil"
    The ball could not be touched with the hands, feet or head, however, the shoulders, back, hips and buttocks could be used, which were protected with belts or girdles of leather or fabric, imposing a temple dedicated to Tlaloc rising above the Main Temple.
    In Mayan mythology, Xibalbá or Xib'alb'a is the underground world ruled by the divinities of illness and death: Hun-Camé and Vucub-Camé. In pre-Hispanic Mexico, gold did have value but not as great as it was seen in other parts of the world.
    Just some information, the movie has a lot. Personally, I love it a lot, the Latin Spanish version it is much more fun and beautiful. The songs hit different. Without disrespecting the English voices.
    If I make a mistake , my dearly apologize, English is my second language.❤

    I will say this every chance I get because I am so proud of it: My uncle was an animator on this movie, and we have a bunch of concept art and stuff from the movie. Some of it even including Chel, before she had a name. As well as some bat warriors that were deemed 'too scary' because they looked too much like Man-Bat, and some of the buildings that DID make it in.

    So for the record, there is a pretty common theory that Miguel, Tulio and even Altivo(the horse) were once Gods, who, after all their believers, either changed religion or were killed for worshiping them, lost all memories/powers. When they get to El Dorado and start being worshipped as Gods again, they start regaining some abilities. It's thought that if they had stayed in El Dorado, they might have been able to regain all their abilities/memories.
    Altivo is believed to have not actually lost himself to the horse mentality and instead just preferred the guise of a horse for its simplicity. That is why he is so incredibly intelligent for an animal. Even a horse.
    Miguel is sometimes thought to be Apollo, and Tulio might have been Hermes. The only time you see one of them bleed is when TULIO hit MIGUEL! No other instance, even with the leeches, is there blood. There are a whole bunch of theories, though.

    • @whowantswaffles
      @whowantswaffles 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      common theory? My dude that is not the plot of the movie, that's just fan made up junk. The movie is as the movie does, its not that deep. I could say there is a theory that the whole thing is a dream, or they are all just actors on a stage and it's a fever of the armadillo

    • @Tigerlilygurl1
      @Tigerlilygurl1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @whowantswaffles ........yes. That is the point of a theory. It's pretty common among the fans. The exact definition of a theory is as follows, a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained. So you are right, you can theorize it's a fever dream of the armadillo (coincidentally, it's theorized that the Armadillo is a god as well). It's theorized to explain why the carving of the gods looks so similar to Miguel and Tulio. It's theorized to explain how everything worked out so well for them.
      Also, many fan theories have ended up inspiring actual events in series or been proven to be true. I kindly ask that you keep your negative nancy, pessimistic, close-minded views where they belong. In your head.

    2:27 I live in Spain... And tho you are not wrong, I think it depends on the place. Where I live they are very racist, but it's so normalize they don't even know they are being racist. But not absolutely everyone is racist here, I think it just a matter of time tho. Like me and my older sister were the first black kids out our school when we were younger... But that was many years ago.
    I remember when I was a lot younger, and didn't speak any Spanish, people here use to call me "Conguito" and laughed, I had no idea what that meant, all I knew was that it made them laugh so I laughed too. I was shocked and sad to later find out it's a sweet with some sort of black face logo on it, you can look it up, they still have them on every supermarket here. The name of the sweet translated means "Little congos" as in people from the country Congo in Africa. A teacher once said to me after handing an exam I suspended "For a black person, you don't work hard do you?"...
    And so much more... Walking down the road with so many people staring gave me social anxiety..

    I have a weird relationship with this film. I enjoy it but I am actually from the tribe where the legend of El Dorado came from and I get that this is a kids film...but there is just so much wrong.
    The legend of El Dorado was based off the Muisca ceremony for declaring our new zipa (chief in the south region). He would be adorned in gold dust over his entire body hence Él - Man Dorado - Golden. Priests would take the new zipa and bunch of tunjos (lil golden idols) put them on a raft. Then zipa would sacrifice the idols to Lake Guatavita. The new zipa would then wash the gold dust off his body and then be officially recognized as zipa.
    We didn’t have stone temples either. Those look more Aztec? Muisca had wooden homes and temples that were destroyed by the conquistadors. And while my people once did do human sacrifices....1) they were raised from birth to be one and it was considered a huge honor and 2) by the time the conquistadors came, we had already stopped human sacrifice for a long time and it was only in our written histories.

    Far as accuracies, them playing ball was. Back in those times, in that culture, they didn't play to have fun. They played to win. The games were akin to a tribute to their Gods and the losers would be beheaded as sacrifices to them. From what I recall. It's been years since I learned a little about it.

      @rincaimo812 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So I am of the Muisca tribe (where the legend of El Dorado originates). They kinda...mushed...a bunch of Indigenous cultures into one. The sport they are playing isn't of my tribe. We had a totally different game called Tejo that is still played in Colombia today. We did do human sacrifices, but it was considered a thing of high honor and was long out of practice by the time of the conquistadors. Muisca didn't do the stone temples. We made ours with wood and clay, and they were conical. Also Xibalba was part of MAYAN myths, not Muisca.

      And yes i do know Dreamworks mixed some things from other cultures. The play ball was exactly like in the movie, that came from the Olmeca culture, but basically became a thing in more tribes and places. That's why i pointed out that the movie not only is accurate in some real things but also in Myths and Legends aswell.

    This is kinda based on something! There was a series of movies in the 40’s and 50s called the Road pictures starring Bob Hope Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. The guys would travel to different countries have adventures and tell jokes and fight over Dorothy Lamour. This movie is a tribute to those movies. There’s even a blink and you miss it frame of animation during its tough to be a god where Miquel and Tulio’s reflection in the wine become characatchures (sp?) of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.

    7:36 Actually, funny enough, this movie is based off of a 1940s movie series staring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby called the "Road to..." series. The two pretend arguing / fighting is even an ode to the "patty-cake" scene where Bob and Bing throw off the bad guys and punch them at the end. Now, these are different characters, but it's a nod of the hat to the original black and white films.
    21:15 It's based on a fictional fantasy civilization of gold from ancient legend, which was supposed to be located somewhere in South America. That said, this movie was a huge hit in South America (even more than it was in the USA).
    So... yeah. Apparently I know a lot of random movie and history stuff, lol.

    When it comes to either buying a movie on DVD, or buying it on Blu Ray, I have some particular criteria. Usually, it boils down to how important the visuals are to the experience. If it's a high octane action film, or something with tons of special effects, I'll fork over the extra cash for the Blu Ray. If it's a more mellow film, like a comedy or drama, in which the visuals are not a very integral aspect of the experience, I'll stick with DVD version.
    This is the one movie in my entire collection that I love enough to have on Blu Ray despite not actually meeting my typical Blu Ray criteria.
