At least Bender and Aladdin had something good about them
Aladdin; He had a heart of gold even though he stole, and the reason why he stole was because he was poor and homeless. He was living in an old house with no one but his pet monkey named Abu. He genuinely gave a convincing connection between him and Jasmine and we saw that Jasmine was looking for some excitement in her life.
Bender; was a jerk, but he also cared for his friends. He was also funny with his sarcasm.
Ya know when the reviewer is crying before he starts the review, you know what he's reviewing is gonna suck.
For me, this one is a guilty pleasure, though I can understand why so many people hate it, and I agree with some of your complains. PS: I'm going to stop requesting because I already won two requests

You know how in Finding Nemo, the Sharks weren't explicitly vegetarian? How all three could possibly munch on a whale, dolphin, or seal, and still be able to...you know...survive? And how it looked like all of them were new to not eating fish, and were learning to adjust? Yeah, if this movie was supposed to ride off the coattails of Finding Nemo, (Which I assume it was) maybe it should have copied its ability to suspend my disbelief. Why is Lenny completely vegetarian? More importantly, *why does eating meat make a shark sick?!* How is Lenny not dead? Maybe Lino should be hard on his son! He just wants to make sure Lenny doesn't starve!
I'm sorry i"m gonna have to diagree with you on this one I grew up with this movie and still makes me laugh. For me this is a guilty pleasure. I think this actually deserves a sequel.
I still can't believe a comedic genius like Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang Bang!) helped contribute to the script.

I will admit that I do have some memories with this movie, I remember when my dad rented the DVD for me to watch a couple of times when I was like 6 years old (I even remember eating baseball gum balls while doing so once, why the heck do I remember that?), and when I got the movie for my 7th birthday from my nanny, and I watched it so many times and I even remember listening to this movies version of Car Wash so many times. Nowadays this movie is a slight guilty pleasure, there are some things I like about this movie, like the nostalgia and also, Lenny’s story is really heartfelt and more interesting, it would’ve been better if he was the protagonist (though at least his voice actor got the spotlight from dreamworks a few years later 😉🐼), I felt for him and the bit when he overheard his mourning dad say hurtful things about him and seeing the hurt and sadness in his eyes, that not only made me feel so sad but I think one time it might’ve made me cry a little bit, I just wanted to give the poor guy a hug! And the bit when he gets a hug from his father as they make up, it warms my heart, just the smile on Lenny’s face and the way he nuzzled into his father’s shoulder, it’s just so adorable. You can tell that was all he ever wanted. Oscar is definitely an awful protagonist, he’s too selfish and irredeemable! And that does ruin a lot of the movie!
You know, I've actually did a Facebook post asking which character they prefer, Ariel from The Little Mermaid or Oscar from Shark Tale.
These characters are criticized for being selfish, unlikable, stupid, making dick moves and horrible choices, putting their loved ones in danger, putting themselves above others, and being bad role models. Ariel sells her voice to someone she knows is evil for a man she just met. Oscar bets his best friends Pearl in a sea horse race instead of paying his boss.
Yet, in the end, Ariel won with Oscar having 0 points.
Ariel did not give up her voice just for a man. She always wanted to go to the surface even before she saw Eric, in fact she sang part of your world before that scene, plus the first scene we meet her has her and flounder looking for treasures. Plus when triton destroyed her treasures, it gave her more reason to become human, she was hesitant when learning the price before she did it.

I'm surprised he didn't mention the fact that they tried to manipulate the audience by making Oscar lecture Don Lino in a "Boo! You're a monster, you don't love your son! Look at me, I'm such a good guy because I accept him for who he is!" Speech, trying to make him appear better and cover the fact he shamelessly profit off Don Lino's son's death and his other son disappearance, while the "friendship" between him and Lenny was just a relationship of convenience, Lenny doesn't eat fish and Oscar is a fish and Oscar himself never really cared about Lenny's well being all the time. Compared to him, Lino is just a strict and a bit demanding father who really cares about both his kids, unlike the protagonist, he suffered the Hell throughout the whole movie and treated Lenny better than Oscar ever treated his friends because he never lied to him, never treated him as a tool and was always there for him
I do love the scene where don lino hugs Lenny saying that he loves him for who he is, but I agree, the speech is not really good coming from Oscar. It probably would’ve been better if Angie was the one who told Don Lino that Lenny is great just the way he is, because despite the fact that he took part in oscars scandal, she did really care for Lenny, he was the one who comforted her after her argument with Oscar, and he seemed to like her enough to tell her the truth about what had happened to Frankie when she first met him and she is kind of like a voice of reason, even if I question her attraction to Oscar.
@@alisonsouter8788 or even better if Lenny would have spoken for himself while Angie supported him, so he would have showed the audience he wasn't intimidated by his dad anymore and the scene would have been more powerful

@@alisonsouter8788 the scene in the movie when Oscar lectures Lino always annoyed me to no end since childhood, because of all the motives I said in my comments above and the fact that Oscar is a far more believable villain than Lino himself despite the movie claims he's the hero
I feel like Will Smith needs a redemption in terms of DreamWorks films, seeing as Jack Black in this movie was thankfully redeemed in the Kung Fu Panda films.

I disagree he did a great job as always the only movie I feel like he was bad in was after earth his performance was very wooden it was probably bad direction

I remember when this movie first came out, I was like 8-years-old, and I didn't even find anything promising about it. I had no interest in seeing it. And as it turns out, 8-year-old me made a smart decision. 😌

How dreamworks went from shrek 2 to this in the span of a few months is just embarrassing.
All the complaints you have for this movie are the same as my complaints for almost everything Seth Macfarlane has made... Full of himself, up his own arse, whatever you want to call it, his humour is so pretentious.
+NintendanGX For goodness' sake, it's the writers that make the stories, not MacFarlane himself (most of the time). Though he does have the final say in what gets greenlit or not, so his hands aren't completely clean.

If you think that Shark Tale trying to make people laugh during the death scene and a funeral was bad? Shrek The Third did the same thing with King Harold dying and including his funeral. And it was really really bad.

Much like Trolls, Shark Tale was what we would call an, "In-FAD-uation". That’s when a studio makes a movie about a bunch of trendy things. This movie reeks of star power, a trendy pop star soundtrack, a generic plot, and product placement.

If Lenny was the protagonist, as a movie with a title“Shark Tale” would imply, this film might have been a bit better.
I agree! He was always my favourite character in the movie and is the main reason I cannot hate this movie completely. On the bright side at least his voice actor got the spotlight from DreamWorks Animation a few years later. 😉 🐼

I used to love this movie a lot as a kid and a teenager. Now as an adult, it really doesn't hold up well at all. Aside from a few decent laughs.

You could set this movie in the human world and have literally the same thing. That fish thing was just a way to get good ratings.

Now maybe I might be biased because I love that movie to death but let me explain.
PT Barnum in the movie did go on a similar direction that Oscar did, but there is a difference, Barnum is more likeable and sympathetic. We saw how rough his childhood was, he lived in poverty, his mother as far as I’m concerned had passed away some time ago since we never see her, he and his dad was treated terribly because he was poor, the father of the girl he was in love with wouldn’t allow him to see her just because he’s poor and even worse his father died when he was still a kid, leaving him orphaned and homeless. He had suffered from bad luck which is understandable as to why he tried to be famous, be loved by the whole world and especially impress the ones who look down on him like charitys dad or mr Bennett. Once he did get approval when presenting Jenny Lind, he did let the success get to his head and he did lose sight of what was important, and it did lead to disastrous consequences, including almost losing charity, however when he does realize the error of his ways he does show remorse and he does sincerely apologize to his wife. He clearly does love his wife and daughters with all his heart and even before he lost his way, he was shown being a great father to his daughters and really did want to give his girls a better life. Plus he didn’t really enjoy the kiss from Jenny, unlike how Oscar did with Lola, even Barnum wasn’t willing to cheat on Charity. And that’s why he’s a better character than Oscar.
It's a scientific fact that 9/10 people who look at Oscar's face suffer from myopia
