i never bought any of those Daiwa spincast reels back in the 1980s, but came into possession a couple of them this year. I was impressed with their build quality. One was a parts reel, but the other was full functioning. I listed the fully functioning one on eBay, and it sold immediately. Still have the parts reel, but haven't found anotbher donor reel to build a complete reel.

    Great job Rick
I went back and checked mine
My oscillation plate is full of spidercracks but no splits
I don't think it's anything to worry about
    Thanks again
Merry Christmas to you and your family

If the reel were mine it wouldn’t bother me at all but since Ken planned to sell this reel it becomes a bigger deal. He’s in to full disclosure on all of his sales.

Some plastics don't age well, especially if left inside a hot vehicle in the summertime. They will develop spidercracks from the heat.

Dan, does your parts reel have these cracks? The GC80 that was used in the other video had these spider cracks as well. Is this something they all do?

I don’t like those cracks! Rick, I’ve even put a rolled up piece of sandpaper in my drill chuck and did a slow spin. You know Rick, I use a much smaller brush for applying grease than you do. I find I have more control over where it goes. I find that I’d like this reel if it was in better shape. The reel is more like a spinning reel than others I’ve seen so you know I like that. If it just wasn’t full of cracks this would be a nice reel. Does this indicate that the internal mechanism is intrinsically weak? I have no idea about that. I’m just not sure about the durability of this reel. Thanks for a great video Rick! - Chris

I have the same reel that hasn't been used in years 15 years, sitting in an attic where it can get cold and extremely hot in the summer. I took it apart and the spool plate is cracked like this one.. It functions, but it's wobbly and probable won't cast well.

I’ve seen three of these reels now and so far all of them have had that part cracked. Unfortunately, I don’t know of a source for those parts.

Same here with the plastic piece spider cracked on a GC80 I bought when I was a kid, it cleaned up and seems to work just fine as it is…… Thanks much for the guidance

This one is reversible but I can’t say if the one you want to buy is. The answer is, probably.
