Henry VIII was actually very athletic and tall (for the time) when he was young. Which was part of the reason everybody was very excited when he became king. He looked like a king and looked like he could beat anybody in a fight or sword fight and, he was good in the joust. However, after injuries, he become very fat. Supposedly over 300 lbs.

The guy had Syphilis. That shit goes to your brain and drives you mad. Unfortunately for him, antibiotics weren't around, but apparently he did slow the progression somewhat by carrying around and eating some slightly moldy bread.

If you went to the Tower of London they have Henry 8 armour and in latter years his waist was up to 52 inches??

That's his actual battle armor if I'm not mistaken? That's the dark set with thick plates for matchlock musket protection, but no shin guards.

The best museum I've been in, though I'm sure there is others. Another place that's got loads to see and really interesting. It's another one that's a must if your up north I think you might agree Dan and Mazzy!

If you like armour you need to go to the battle of Tewkesbury re-enactment of the war we of the roses 1471. It’s a whole weekend and is free they just ask for a donation to help them be able to do it every year if you want to. It is absolutely amazing weekend and I think you guys will love it. Sadly you missed this year but it is the second weekend of July every year.
