We just got Ben Holladay in Virginia. Picked up both the soft wheat and the bottled in bond bourbon. They were still in the box on the floor hadn’t even hit the shelf yet 😆 I agree the red soft wheat is a delicious pour. Cheers Tj
Picked up the soft red wheat Rickhouse proof. It was 119.8, couple months ago. Holy smokes is that a great bottle so I bought the next one in line which is a little bit over 120 proof, both are fantastic
I'm with you on this one TJ. Just had a strong pour last night... the red wheat adds a different character but I enjoy that aspect. Thanks for highlighting this bottle, probably would not have tried it if it wasn't for your recommendation!
I just picked up the Red Wheat today, and I have to say it's good. I read online that the recipe is about 73% corn, 15% red wheat, and 12% malted barley. It definitely smells nice from a far for me, and I can see what she meant by the finish being odd. It tasted a bit different for me as well. I'll admit, I'm a novice bourbon drinker after years of drinking Scotch Whisky - I'm reading up on bourbon as much as I can lately. I also discovered that if I add a drop or two of water, it opens this bourbon on the palate. On a side note, I tried TX Straight Bourbon for the first time yesterday, and I discovered that the recipe is corn, Texas winter wheat and malted barley, but I couldn't find the percentage for each grain, but I like the TX very much. I think TX Straight Bourbon is my favorite bourbon at this time. I just find it interesting how the percentages of the grains and aging changes the flavor of the bourbon. TX Straight bourbon for me is smooth on so many levels, but this Holladay Red Wheat is smooth and bold on the finish.
Just bought a bottle of the red wheat my local specs just put them out on the shelf for the first time so I grabbed the wheater. Too bad I won't try it soon as I stopped drinking for a bit, I can't wait to try it though
If you all still have the bottle can you provide the bottling date on the side of the label please? I got the Soft Red Wheat first and am wondering if I got the same batch date. Hoping to get the same flavors and enjoyment from it.
Sorry Brewzle im gonna have to agree with Jill... My bottle ( Rickhouse C, Floor 4, bottled 8/23) has flavors all over the place with moderate tannins and doesn't blend well with a bit of heat that stings like Colemans hot mustard and lingers at the end. it ok but for my palate Ild rather buy a still Austin with the funk and butter mouthfeel.
Well I finally found a bottle of the soft red wheat in NH. Got it because of all the good reviews. After trying it, I can say it is definitely not worth the $60 I paid for it. Get a maker's mark, larceny, or Weller if you can find some. It's far better and cheaper. I prefer wheaters but not this. Even Evan Williams bib is better imo.
Just bought the wheated today, most expensive bourbon I’ve bought so far. I’m brand new to this and I think maybe I should’ve waited until I know more about tasting cuz it taste like a less sharp early times BIB to me 😆 Now I’m regretting spending more than $50 on a bottle am I thinking about it wrong? 🤷🏼♂️

Both are solid and delicious. The red wheat elevates a Manhattan nicely.
I picked up both in St. Louis two weeks ago. Great whiskey!
I just picked up a bottle of their BIB and man that’s a Great pour imo. Can’t wait to try more of their products.

I have both….love the review. Have you reviewed the Firefly Live from Rollers in Hilton Head? I bought a bottle too but haven’t tried it yet…
Holladay SRW BIB, drinking it right now, fresh crack. It's pretty good, no issues....nice addition to the bar.
This is a great pour from a really cool distillery. They folks there are top notch.
Thx for the review. Just bought it and love it. Appreciate your work!
Scored this bottle at the base class 6 for 30$ and love it
You need to take a trip to the distillery in Weston, MO and get the Rickhouse version of both, they are so much better!
This is my favorite on the shelf right now. I get a cherry flavor from it personally
I bought it just now because of this review. lol
Best Bourbon coming outta Missouri for sure!
Yes and loved it.

It’s everywhere around me but I’m also in Missouri. 😂
Finally got my hands on a Ben Holladay bottle. First one I found was the wheat and it is a darn good pour
Its delicious
Green River is good wheat, but SR is an everyday drinker!
Best thing McCormick ever did
