BEST $2 Turbo Inlet Fix for any Subaru

- Quick and easy solution to sealing a rip or hole in a Subaru OEM Turbo Inlet for the EJ-SERIES engines. These OEM inlets have a rubber connection at the turbo side and it’s very common for this rubber lip to develop a tear or small hole, which allows unfiltered air in the system and causes all kinds of bad!

Here’s how to save that OEM inlet pipe - Use a silicone bracelet (LINK ABOVE)! That’s right, random I know, but it works perfect and it’s super cheap. I found them on Amazon for a few bucks each or a dozen for about ten dollars. Plus, you can find these in the perfect matte black color, that matches the OEM intake finish perfectly. One more thing to note, anyone using an OEM turbo inlet should consider throwing one of these on, because having one will protect a non-damaged inlet from developing a tear.
This video is part of a "Build Series" (see "Playlists" tab for all videos) for my 1998 Rally Blue Pearl RSTi Coupe (Impreza 2.5RS swapped with a EJ205 turbo engine), which is 1 of only 720 sold in the USDM for 1998. This RSTi Build has come a long way and includes a full archive of videos documenting how to: (1) Pull a EJ-series turbo engine, (2) Replace the head gaskets, (3) Add key upgrades to increase long-term reliability, and (4) Restore the interior to OEM specifications.

Good tip, I think anyone doing an engine rebuild, specifically with track in mind should have a look at some Murray Constant tension clamps especially on boost hoses, Turbosmart sell them with their brand but they won’t shred hoses and will hold really high boost way more than crappy oem jubilee type clamps. Kind of expensive but worth it.
Great info the share man. Those constant tension clamps and LEGIT! I’ll be doing a video on them at some point for sure! 😎
In CA they would simply try to take your car from you. In OR they at least test what comes out of the pipe, here in CA it’s an inspection to make sure that CA was able to extort money out of the parts manufacturer via CARB
💯
Thanks Luke , this is an easy & inexpensive fix even when I have to pay for international shipping it comes to US $11 or $16 AU and you get two. Bargain. Small price to pay to avoid any problems. Cheers for Australia
Sweet man - cheers buddy!
Hi Luke thanks for the great video and tips. I wanted to know if you had a video that shows the turbo inlet installation? Thanks
Thank you! And no, don’t have one on just that but removing the intake manifold is def the best way to do it. Here’s a quick overview of the steps:
1) remove TMIC
2) remove turbo
3) remove Intake Manifold (with turbo inlet left attached)
4) swap the new turbo inlet on the manifold while it’s off the engine
5) reinstall it all in the reverse order (to these steps).
😁👌
Thank you bro just last night I was trying to figure how to fix mine cause I didn’t want to buy a new one.
👊
Rebuilding my engine from a spun barring. I’m doing everything stock. My stock inlet is no good. I have a Mishismoto turbo inlet as a spare. Will it affect my engine in any way? Will it pass emissions in California? Thank you!
Cam sprocket wrench on the wall in the background.... word! Thanks for the idea as I just found this problem on my 02 bugeye wagon during an engine out HG job
Nice catch man! Glad the video helped! 👊
Nice video
Not only bypasses your MAF and runs lean, it'll also add in more timing! Which the engine will suffer from heavy engine ping/detonation!
Great point man!! Thanks for dropping the comment! 👊
2006 Subaru sti with a po302, maybe a vacuum leak
My 03 WRX wagon has a P0 302 check engine light code I replace the coil pack with a genuine one and I'm getting the code again do you think the turbo inlet could cause a misfire on number two cylinder
It could, but it’s much more likely an intake rip would effect all four cylinders. I’d focus on things that only relate to that cylinder - the spark plug, the valves, the rings, etc. Good luck man, feel you on this one! 👍
@@SubaruONLY thanks
Same here. 2006 Subaru sti with a po302. Did all swaps. Did compression and leakdown test all good. Noid test on injector connector good. Fuel pressure good. Replaced both o2 sensors
Perfect fit. Great find!
Thanks! Small random thing, but they all add up! 😁
Glad I don't live in California! We don't have emission tests or inspections. We don't have a problem with smog or pollution either.
Good find. Thanks for the tip.
Happy to help!!! Cheers! 🤙
Where's the link for the silicone ring ?
Thanks for the great question - please see link below - I'll also add it into the video's description. Thanks and Cheers!

My GC8 WRX started having a bad vacuum leak on idle after installing a silicone inlet pipe😥
Never good deal...
@@SubaruONLY found out what it was, Intake Manifold gasket leak and IACV was dirty
Nice man! That’ll do it for sure! 👊
Very clever!!
Anyone found the mishimoto intake sliding if standard turbo sti 2008 hatchback?? Anyone done a mod
I have a question that I can’t figure out my issue with my 05 wrx, all I did was upgrade turbos and now it will not spool when it should? It’s a forced performance 71HTA, 1050x injectors, aem cold air intake, act lightweight flywheel, turboback catless exhaust, and my inlet is torn horribly I believe this is issue but not for sure and also have ELH HEADERS, and a up pipe. I checked all gaskets and they seem fine and all vacuum lines are good shape and couplers. I hear all the pressure it’s building come out on the passenger side and its suppose to spool at 4K rpm and build full boost til redline well it only builds 5psi at 4K rpm and 20psi at 6200rpm any insight would help me thank you!!
Is a 71hta an fp green? Anyway what you're experiencing is a pretty common thing for a bigger turbo on a ej205. I wish I never would've went any bigger than a vf turbo on mine
Can you link the product to me?
Good luck there.
Thanks buddy!!! 👊
Genius
You need to get a better microphone, I had to raise the volume to max.
I was just gonna suggest this, too. Something like this would probably help a lot. www.amazon.ca/dp/B07SK7BNKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Dn5JDbJ1Q7HMQ
Will work on that - thanks.
@@SubaruONLY Solo video production is a lot of work when you're doing it for a DIY channel. You gotta worry about camera angles, what you're going to say and remembering it, retakes, video quality, editing, music copyright (if any). I'm no expert but I know what it takes to produce even a 10 minute video. You're doing a good job.
volume can be fixed in post. it's not an issue with the microphone itself
@@Huntershotit More than one way to skin a cat, as they say. Having a fixed microphone that doesn't move away from the primary (or only, in this case) sound source can reduce a LOT of work in post and makes for more consistent volume. Having a good video editor can help reduce that work needed as well, but it can basically be eliminated when it's perfect to begin with.
You need to move out of the Clown town laws of CA!
lol. Tell me about it!!! 🤔🤔🤔
Nice video. Check your inbox. Need help.

Well... I could go back to “sucker” 🤣🤣🤣
I got issues, I know. Filming stuff is hard. 😌
@@SubaruONLY You are a great teacher & presenter Luke & IMHO ,that far out ways any issues.
