Thank you for reviewing this one. I have the first one that you showed us the green one and I do like it a lot and then I purchased one other one that you showed a different brand that I love a lot. Your reviews are quite helpful as I am a beginner.

I’m a musician who has special nees and mental illness. I love the tongue drum. I find it to be so soothing and relaxing. It can really calm dysregulated emotions. It can give you something to do when you’re bored. It’s a great sensory tool for many of the senses. I have 2 tongue drums, and I just purchased a 3rd. I have a question for you. Have you worked with children with special needs or children with mental illness and used music and musical instruments to help them focus or calm dysregulated emotions? Or even just gave them a musical instrument to fidget with.

Hello as always you give clear demo and provide us with a true feel about the instruments!
I don't if anybody had the same problem as me so I thought I'd post it to you!
I use the drums with children who have special needs, I had a member of our group, who couldn't tell numbers so I used coloured star stickers to replace the numbers on the drum and use the stickers on the song book you reviewed a little time back!! This has allowed them to fully take part.
Once again thank you for your Inspiration!!

I've been looking at a few of these and noticed that Hluru 15-tone drums have a different note/number arrangement. For example, 5&6, 1&7, 2&3 are reversed. Can you say, (1) which is easier to play? And (2) which is "more" standard? Thanks

I'm so glad to be helpful! Unfortunately I am so busy between my teaching job, going to school, and being a mom that I just don't have time for lessons - I wish I did! But David Charrier over at Master the Handpan teaches great lessons, and you can use the code MUSICALMOLLY for 30% off 😊

Holy moley! After the harp tour... I think you need to do a tongue drum collection video. You've got a lot of them. I really like that style of gig bag. It seems to offer a lot of protection. I also like the camera angle you used for the sound samples. It has a really clean tone with the mallets.

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, I would love to! I need to plan a series, haha. I feel like these kinds of drums are really designed more for use with the mallets, so they sound a bit better than trying to use fingers. I've been trying out that camera angle more and I'm really enjoying it!

Question, you said this 15 tone came in Key of C Major, but when I clicked on the link you provided above for the 15 note, it didn't say what key and in the questions below someone said it was in Key of D. I want to be sure it is Key of C before I order it. Can you please confirm that the link you provided is the item in C? Thank you.

Go better for D major. The drum will be more responsive to finger play.

I haven't featured this one in another video yet, but I definitely plan to! Honestly, my favorite of all the drums this size is the 14 note Hluru: amzn.to/2WWxsiu
It doesn't have the low 3, but I think it sounds the clearest 😊

    Hi Molly,
Thank you very much for your great reviews e.g. of the steel tonge drums, you "infected" me with your passion for those instruments ;-) and I ordered my very first one from Amazon,
from "Amkoskr" 14 inch 35 cm Steel Tongue Drum, D-major 15 notes in red color".
It looks similar like your green one in your tuning video, except it has 15 tones. Unfortunately, a zipper of the bag does not move at all and the textile wrapping of the instrument got loose and I can't get it firmly attached again (edit: my wife was able to fix it ;-))) ).
The drum is strong magnetic and I have 20 little neodym magnets here, but in spite of that some notes don't seem to have a sweet spot at all or rattle, as also often the whole instrument. I find the original gum mallets are a little too smooth. I also bought and ordered some other mallets out of felt and gum to test different sounds, tested also with wooden ones, but with no real sound improvement so far. Also with fingers it's not so clear as I hoped and very difficult to produce a clear tone although very very short beating.
I am a cellist and play the cello since 40 years and some other instruments, so I would like to ask you if you would recommend me to send the instrument back to Amazon or just to keep it and try to make the best out of it? I only wanted not to buy an more expensive one (this was 120 euros) because I just had a lot of costs with improving my cello at the violin makers. My sister ordered a little one for less than 20 euros and it sounds much better, is pentatonic with only 6 notes (piccolo), you already reviewed that, too... ;-)))
    Thank you very much again
and kind regards from Southern Germany

Hello 😊 I think you may be better served by sending that one back, it sounds like quality control wasn't stellar and you got a dud! You may like to try this drum, the thinner shape and metal makes the notes a bit clearer in my opinion: amzn.to/3y1EZJj
