Thanks for the great review. I bought a 10" 11 note tongue drum and have been loving it so much that I wanted a bigger one with more notes so that it will be possible to learn to play more songs. I was looking at this model online and your video helped me decide.
By the way, I'm new to this, but from what I have noticed is you get sounds from two sources, one from the tongue that you struck, and then from the rest of the drum. This can be seen by putting your hand on the other tongues while you strike one tongue. In this way, you will hear what just the one note sounds like, without the rest of the body ringing. I think the plug on the bottom is there to cut down the vibrations from the body just enough to let the sound from tongue you struck to stand out more. It sounds beautiful either way.
Finally, you can really have fun with these when you experiment with striking two tongues at once and finding out which notes sound good together.

I’m on the edge, well I was before watching you! This is a beautiful video, I’m thankful I’ve seen it this morning. It’s Mother’s Day here in the U.K. in March, my adulting sons want to know what I would like, something special just for me, I was thinking of another bronze gong but now I’m thinking this, really loving the sounds. I also love how authentic You are coming across with this. Thank you 🙏🏻 all my love, Helen ❤️

On your red drum with the dull sounds, have you tried to put it on a cushion when playing? I have a similar looking drum that has the most beautiful sounds when I set it on a pot holder or my lap. It doesn’t have a bottom hole or feet. Give it a try if you haven’t tried it You might be surprised.

What I noticed is the cheaper ones that are $50-$60 or less are not as good when it comes to quality. With these type of drums you get what you pay for. The real steel tongue drums that are hand made sell for thousands of dollars.
When it comes to size, it does make a difference. The smaller ones make a tinky bell like sound and the larger they are, the more gong like sounds you hear with the smaller tongues making a more bell like sound in between the deeper gong like sounds on the larger tongues. The more notes (tongues) that they come with the better, as you can play more songs. The medium sized ones in the 8"-10" size usually have an in between sound of gong meets bells, but more bell like. The larger the drum the bigger the vibrations that reverb throughout the drum since each tongue you hit's notes vibrate and hold the note for a longer length of time than the smaller ones.
I noticed the cheaper ones are made out of thinner, less durable steel. The bigger, more expensive ones are heavier and more sturdy and of higher quality. The cheap ones get out of tune easily because the steel is so thin the tongues get bent. The big ones like this one weigh at least 6+ pounds and have thicker steel and stay in tune better.
If you are into steel tongues drums like I am, you soon realize it is fun to have them in all different sizes because the different sized ones make different sounds. I alternate back and forth between each one when playing and I play them all at once.

@@ohdannyboyjustadiggin You're welcome. A lot of people think they are all the same and they don't realize some are more expensive for a reason. Do you think people would want to hear me play them all in a video? I thought people might find this boring. Glad to hear you would like to see it. I could do that. I don't play regular songs. I just play my own made up non, professional melodies that I make up on the spot. Maybe I will make a video of it later. Hope you are having a great day! 🤗

@@FuturesPast1 i am far from a professional guitar play.. I try to do cover songs but I end up making up my own rhythm.. Got a few videos on playing guitar up. 6 degrees outside I am staying in until I have to pick up Talisha from work..

I, I saw u have 2 varian, the 14 noted with hole in the middle, and the 15 notes, which one is warm and beautiful sound

    • @FuturesPast1

The dark blue one without the hole makes more beautiful sounds. The red one with the hole in the center makes more of a thunking bass sound and is less pretty sounding.

Well the red one has a dozen mallets stuffed in the hole so of course it's going to make a thud!!

LOL you said you can't play any of them! And you've got almost a happy dozen there? LOL oh well by the way that drum does not sound good but it can sing if

  • @TheBeatGoesOn64

You are absolutely holding those drumsticks wrong! That's why it's making such a clinging sound. They should be bouncing off those tongues you should hold them feather light you're holding them like they are pencils! Your index finger should be curved it should be up at your knuckle. You should also learn how to count in time and beat and at least put some rhythm and that's when music sounds good otherwise it's just banging and clanging and you bought how many drums
