@@heresRIPLEY I think he misclicked and corrected it to a GG after the fact. I guess LVD also did not see it as BM because he GGed back and the match had been overall fun so far.
This feels more like the honest type of magic that I fell in love with. To hell with agents and fires and whatever the hell everyone and their grandma is spamming the hell out of, this is the type of deck I want to play.
A Standard where these types of decks are viable is good for the game. Even as close as GRN we could play Gruul monsters and have a chance vs the top decks.
This deck is "not baaahd" :D I definitely appreciated the final speech about variation with marauding raptor and mutate creatures, it looks so fun and fresh.
I love using ram through + any creature with death touch. Like the one green mana viper or scorpion. I've picked of some huge creatures and some people do not see that combo comming. GREEN REMOVAL
You know that Standard is volatile when LegenVD makes what would otherwise be a fine deck and it gets wrecked multiple times. I love the deck but I wish there was more room for non-companion decks in Standard.
@Kel'Thuzad Kaheera Gruul decks already do use Fires and are fairly good, even being able to place Top 8 in Tournaments. They are insane when curving out properly and not missing land drops. The ideal gameplan usually looks like this: Turn 1 Arboreal Grazer, turn 2 play land 3 and Kaheera, turn 3 Fires of Invention + Questing Beast or Shifting Ceratops. Turn 4 play out 5 CMC Vivien, use her -2, play out a Red Cavalier while fetching another Ceratops or Questing Beast, pump everything up and go face. Quartzwood Crasher is a great 5 drop as well you can play alongside the Cavalier.
sweet video as usual, though i come to the comment section in order to beseech thee, good sir, to brew a thousand new black historic decks when phyrexian obliterator is added to arena later this month!
@@anayos6726 i started playing during 'the dark' i dont recognize companions, planeswalkers, big creatures with no downside or the loss of mana burn. needless to say, i dont play much anymore lol
Love me some good old fashioned trample. Purphoros Intervention can buff Pelt Collector twice, when entering and dying. It's also solid removal. But it's hard to slot in, and wouldn't work that well with Rythm, as it is a token.
Loved seeing this experiment! Would enjoy seeing you try a more top-end, combo version of this deck... with shock and flame sweep for early game, maybe raptor into gemrazer and then more ilhargs into crasher? The new Vivien, or even 4 mana Domri, can draw you more cards.
interesting that in two of the matches here (including the first one), i'm pretty sure you were playing against the new Gruul Fires decks, which relies on Fires and then Cavalier of Flame to give creatures haste. The version i built looks closer to yours, and this video gave me some ideas of my own. I did get a good chuckle out of your struggles to get Rhythm in play, since i've gone through it so often, lol. All the meta decks have a million ways to bounce the one key enchantment this deck has
I was think about a deck like this using that 1 mana card with trample and mutate the one that gives you lands and the one that brings cards onto the battlefield. Cheating out mana and cards seems OP in a deck like this
Yes! Legen, you play with decks I wish I had. Ikoria became my favorite plane... all this magical biodiversity evolving is awesome! Could you play with a Winota deck but the lorewise version? Bonders and Monsters together
Fenix Porto Pontes Winota is a dumb card though. Her synergy with cards like Agent, being yet another way to freecast him, is absurd. Not only that, but the fact that she can look at six cards for every non-human and *freecast* cards like Haktos, Tajic, and Kenrith is just plain bad design. It might've been cool seeing the board fill up with chonkers like that, but single-purpose combo decks tend to get old *fast,* like Agent and Gyruda decks. Hell, I even think Legend himself is tired of that shit.
If you had told me years ago that a 5 mana 6/6 with Trample that made free X/Xs was far too slow I wouldn't have believed you. Man standard is wack lol 5 mana is like a million. I miss the days of kitchen table Magic where Quartzwood would be the most bonkers card I ever laid my eyes on and my friends would push to ban it lol
He specifically mentioned Embercleave in the wrap-up, saying the deck doesn't play noncreature spells over 3 mana to get the most out of Rhythm of the Wild. I do agree that Stonecoil Serpent is worth considering, though.
What about trash/threat instead of ram through. It’s still Instant removal but you have the flexibility to play I creature if you don’t have anything else on the board.
I'm supperised these trample decks arnt using mirror March. The enchantment would mabye make another copy of quatz and if that copy hits for any damage it would make a 0/0 and the other one would make another so it could make more copy's of trample creatures
I'm with LegeVD on this deck not really wanting noncreature spells over 3 mana due to Rhythm of the Wilds, but in a shell that's less about the trample synergy and more proper beatdown, it's definitely an interesting choice.
I love Gruul but the archetype has become too slow for the current meta. Maybe I would change the Wildbonder for a Samut for that extra haste. Perhaps a couple Bond of Flourishing would be also cool to find the finish pieces. Also maybe a 2nd Ilharg?. Marauding Raptor could also pair well with Footfall Crater (since the land we don't use to pay we use to haste a dude). Also Domri can help with ramp and buff our monsters. Just my two cents.
roy wagh Embercleave really needs to either rotate or get banned.. a six mana artifact with flash and auto-equip (people never pay the full cost), double strike, trample, +1/+1, and isn't restricted to Knights, *which it is meant for.* Just an all around mistake of a card that Wizards thought was a good idea to print. Not to mention that it still almost always wins the game if you don't/can't respond.
@@anayos6726 I mean I'm no fan of embercleave and it certainly isn't my kinda deck but it really isn't anywhere near as powerful as you're making it out to be. Yes it's powerful but why shouldn't it be, it's literally the Excalibur of throne of eldraine. The card can't be just slotted into any deck and even in decks that are built around it can just lose you the game if draw extra copies of it or you don't have a good curve of creatures. I'd say embercleave is one of the better designed cards to come out recently because only aggro decks can use it but it is sort of high risk -high reward in the sense that if your creatures have all been answered then it's a worse top-deck than a land. This is what creature based aggro gameplay really should be imo.
What's wrong with companion decks? Most of them aren't good anyway. What's boring though is the netdecking everyone seems to be doing. Come on people, it's not that hard to come up with your own 35 cards.
Haha I just finished playing against one of these decks. They forfeit because I blinked ECD 2 additional times using yorion and flicker of fate to exile their ceratops, rhythm of the wild, and quartzwood.

19:20 the bm “Hello!” after the winning Rally was unbearable. Toxicity on Arena can be mindnumbing.
