- Willie, Sarah and their dogs, Jack Spaniels & Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
This week, the Skye Lifers are on a mission to clean up the beach outside their cottage - with a little help from some new friends that is! Plus, we have the bright idea to use Yolanda - our Land Rover Defender - to make the cleanup job a bit easier...and it doesn't exactly go to plan!
We get down the track to the beach just fine, but getting back up again is another matter - with Yolanda's wheels spinning and sliding dangerously close to the steep precipice...will we get her back onto solid ground?!

whats the weirdest bit of flotsom you guys have found so far?
You need a winch for the front of your Land Rover Yolanda. That would keep you from getting stuck in the mud.

It never ceases to amaze me (and depress me) how much people litter. They have no concept what they are doing to the environment.
It's so amazing how much the fishing nets are just disgarded by the boats!! Thank you for cleaning up, it's something that's needed and you're probably one of the few people that do that on the waters edge and in the woods. Wow! That's a huge pile that you guys collected in the woods. Glad Yolanda didn't go over the edge! (from Sandi)

Here in the States it's considered great fun to get your 4 wheel drive vehicle stuck in wet mud and then getting it out again. Most of these folks have winches mounted, carry plenty of cable, and stand around afterward drinking a well-earned beer and admiring the great quantities of mud covering their vehicles. Glad that you two got out so easily!

When you use the diff-lock! Make sure you unlock it when you get grip back as you could do lots of damage to the diffs when you turn your steering. It cots a lot to repair/replace.👍

wow what a lot of rubbish collected you do such good work for the community and the woods looked great once it was all gone. I used to do something like that with big squares f white bread with a hole cut out and buttered inside and ham in the bottom and an egg on the top and pop it in the oven May try in the air fryer. I like it when you give us some cooking your way it inspires us to give it a try. Was frightened when the landi started to slidebut you got it up the slope in the end safely. Now you two stay safe and give those lovely boys a hug from Aunty Mel xx

I remember staying at the Borve House Hotel in Lewis about 10 years ago. Went for a walk to a stoney sea cove nearby. It’s one of the most Westerly points of Scotland, and the stone beach was covered in plastic. Further investigation suggests that most of it came from the Caribbean.

It's nice to think of wild-caught fish and seafood as better for the environment than cows, chickens, and pigs, and maybe they are to a degree, but this is a good reminder that everything has an impact.

I always love to see you clean up the beaches, though it's so sad you even have to. I wonder how much plastic waste could be caught with a barrier like The Ocean Cleanup is installing in some rivers so it doesn't end up in your lovely woods, but it's probably not that easy when it's not a river but the sea.

Always low box and diff lock when your doing that sort of think willy you can also drop tyre pressure to 15-20 psi will help with grip. Glad you got out ok.

Well done on the clean up. If you get onto a track like that again, lower your tire pressure and it's a good idea to carry a bag of cat litter for traction.
