I got my 2022 MT-09 SP about 6 months back. I'm in northern California. It is either raining, flooding, or freezing out so all I can do is watch other people's vids of them having fun on their bikes. (It's my first bike, and I'm 65 years old...)

Bought a 2020 F900R in 2022 (they were offloading new ones from the warehouse, overstocked I guess) as my first bike at 52 years old. Promptly dumped it and broke my shoulder but that's not the bike's fault. Now have a Svartpilen 401 to continue learning on but keeping the F900R because it's just a great bike.

I really liked my BMW F800GT, did everything well, but I never loved it, no character, now more than happy with my XSR900.

Great video! I have the 2022 MT 09 SP and I’m very happy with it I love the bike! Watching your videos help me decide on the bike! I was looking at the KTM Duke 890 r and the triumph street triple RS. I’m glad I went with the Yamaha! Thanks!

Thanks. You mentioned the rear shock a few months ago not working too well and i thought it would improve with use.!!

Got to agree with you, the CP3 engine is epic no matter which model it’s fitted too 👍

Great review. I was close to pulling the trigger on the F900R, glad I didn't. On a side note, the CB1000R arguably has the best quick-shifter I've tried thus far.

hahaha! such a brilliant comparison, thx Matt............ I am still on a 021 1000 XR but hey... I have had the privilege to ride the F900 R a few times around George and its lovely twisties into the Outeniqua mountains, and it is of course a sweet motorcycle for "scratching"... but I have never ever tried out the MT09, wish I had... Your views and opinions are always of great interest for us here SA, thank you so much......... looks like with the way the curencies are going, it is going to be time to scale down soon ( again) to smaller cc motors and prices..... anything from 1000 cc and above today, seems to have a "horrible" price tag!... cheers bro! many thanks yet again for a great review . Take care and keep them coming, we love you!

Matt did you ever upgrade the rear shock ? I’m looking to upgrade and was curious to see what you went for? Any other comments or suggestions from you guys ?

Excellent comparison! I have the F900XR and it really has loosened up beyond 5000 miles and stopped using oil. The 900 twin is a tight engine from the factory but I bought the bike for it's handling and as 1 bike for everything including touring. I keep thinking about trading up but then I go for a ride and just love the thing... It's not the best at anything really but is good enough at everything once I got the seat re-padded.

I chose the f900r over the mt09 for a few reasons. 1 bmw has its own bank. So if you’re financing, then the bmw is significantly less expensive. And 2 the brakes. Brembo is top notch. 3 the bmw has an amazing screen! So many functions and settings to tinker with.

at the end of the day it comes to what you value the most, all the tech and the sidebags mounts on the F900r suits the best for me, so once I have the money I'll go for it
