As a kid this one was my favorite because it was more action oriented over the first. Nowadays the first will never be topped in my personal rankings, but I still love this movie as a dinosaur action thriller. My two criticisms would be 1) the gymnastics, but that's really about 20 seconds in a two hour movie, so it's doesn't really bother me, just a dumb moment. 2) the way we got to San Diego. I love how the third act is King Kong but for the T-Rex, BUT, the way we transition from Isla Sorna to San Diego is so jarring, it feels like an obvious last minute addition while they were shooting the film. Other than that, I kinda love this movie. I like the characters, never understood the hate for them. The film is paced pretty good, at no point am I ever bored. And the actual action of the movie is great. The cliff scene with the RV is fantastic, and is tied with the T-Rex breakout scene in the first movie. Let's see where JP3 goes for everyone... It's the only film I don't like in the series.

I love these rewatches. I saw this movie twice in the cinema as a kid. It is not as good as the first, but there are so many exciting sequences and scenes in this one. Also, I think the cast is underratedly strong with Goldblum, Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn. I also liked Richard Schiff supporting role. And every movie could include Peter Stormare. Only the villains are a bit too villainy, but still, very exciting movie.
Someone once asked Vince Vaughn if his character died in this film. Vaughn said, "No, my character doesn't die. He just disappeared after they got to San Diego, and we never find out what happened to him."
Coy and Winston trying to decipher the "You show me your title" soundbite is genuinely one of the funniest thing's I've seen in a while!!! I have tears in my eyes!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

This was the first movie I remember my parents taking me to see in theater. I was 5 at the time and we already had the Jurassic Park VHS which gave me nightmares at that age. I specifically remember asking my mom if it was going to be scary and my mom said (I’m paraphrasing) “don’t worry, there will be butterflies in the fields”. I was definitely scared throughout but I think the cool vehicles helped compensate.
This was one of the best episodes of the rewatch series. I don’t remember this movie very much, last watched it YEARS AGO, but enjoyed this discussion quite a bit. Very entertaining lol.

The third act of the movie in San Diego might indirectly be Roland Emmerich's fault. The Lost World was supposed to end with the Pteranadon attack on the helicopters, but Spielberg reconstituted the whole final act of the movie at the eleventh hour when he saw how audiences were reacting to Independence Day in 'Summer '96. He felt that The Lost World needed to go bigger in response, but in retrospect he should have just stuck to his original instincts.
I remember my step-dad spoiling the gymkatta and thinking it sounded like the coolest thing ever. Also loved them going to San Diego because we had just moved back down here. Debating on whether to watch this or Back to the Future when I get home

It feels like “Ingen civil war” in a spin off to the events of ‘93 and repercussions with ludlow vs Hammond. But ultimately nature finds its way at the end. In a very popcorn film like way vs JP1. but solid B-!

Late to the rewatch vid but I’m here to say that I Honestly love this movie more and more I watch it… it grows on ya and this is my second fav after the first one of coarse.
I actually really liked Lost World. It doesn't break any new ground with the franchise, but I always found it to be a very worthy sequel. It got even more entertaining for me when it ended up in San Diego. Seeing dinosaurs running loose in a big city was pretty fun.
I will say that if Spielberg said that he used Lost World as a palate cleanser after Schindlers List and Saving Private Ryan I would 100% believe it. As long as you understand it isn’t Jurassic Park I think it can be reasonably enjoyed.
I’m 34.. saw it in theaters, I’ve actually seen all of them in theaters but I tell you what, the first one is the loudest movie I ever saw in theaters, it was soooo loud.
Spielberg's worst is a bit extreme... For me this is one of those movies that you grew up liking it, and you thought you were with the majority, and once you started getting into the movie buff side of the internet you're surprised finding out that a lot of people don't like it and it has bad reviews. Yes, it's far from perfect and has a very high bar to reach following the first one. But that doesn't make it bad at all, the script may not be as good, but the film certainly benefits from still having Spielberg's vision, unlike the rest of the saga. And I'll never understand those who prefer the third one over this one, which has a much stupider story and visually looks like from the SyFy channel. I will be in the minority but for me, this is the last really good one in the franchise...

I did watch Lost World: Jurassic Park in the theater and did enjoy it but not as much as the first film! Also, wasn't in a hurry to see Jurassic Park 3 when it came out in the theater!
It's not a perfect movie, but it's still miles above the rest of the sequels. At least the dinosaurs were still animals instead of movie monsters, and I do feel some of that magic of the first film, the sense of adventure. The ending is a bit of a mixed bag, but I appreciate Spielberg trying to make it a send up of King Kong and other old Lost World type movies.
I still enjoy this movie, it’s a little fractured and doesn’t really decide on what it wants to do but it still succeeds for me. They really shot themselves in the foot by deleting the scene where the Raptors kill the crew on the boat, because it makes no sense otherwise why they’re all dead haha

I have a real soft spot for "TLW:JP" I saw it when I was 3 years old in the theater. I had the VHS along with the 1st and 3rd movie. I still believe this is still the best sequel to the original movie. Is it great, no. This video review proved it. Its more B movie, but I have fun with it. I think its a good sequel. Steven Spielberg clearly puts his touch of craft into this production, the action is great, the John Williams score is great, and the cast is fun. Its probably the darkest, most mean spirited movie in the series, and that even shows in its cinematography, which is interesting. I don't even mind the gymnastics moment because I've seen it so many times and never questioned it as a kid. I'll suspend my disbelief, b/c this entire premise and series is ridiculous. I like the movie for what it is, flaws and all.
19:29. In all fairness, Sara had only previously worked with African Predators. They established that Paleontalogical Behavior Study was a new field and that she had never actually seen dinosaurs before going to the island. Also, Dr. Sattler was also not a dinosaur expert. She was a Paleobotanist. Her expertise was fossilized plant life. I'm in NO WAY defending this movie. This is terrible. The gymnastics bit was where I checked out mentally from this movie. And the whole King Kong ending was such BLATANT rip off. I laughed so hard when they show the ship's captain arms still stuck to the wheel. So apparently the T Rex had Ant Man powers to shrink himself small enough for fit into the cabin, bite him with such precision as to leave his arms in tact. God this movie sucks.
If you didnt like it you didnt like it but I'll still say it, I've no idea why this film gets the hate it does maybe its the fact that my love for it started when I was 5 but even through adult eyes I think its a really good sequel.
I guess I'm in Coy's boat with this one. I saw this as a kid so it's super nostalgic for me. I always loved this movie. Except the gymnastic scene. Even as a kid it took me out of the movie, I always hated it. And I always thought the trailer falling off the cliff scene went on for WAY too long. Aside from those scenes, I thought it was great. However when I got older I realized why people had issues with it. You definitely over look a lot of stuff when your a kid. I was also Coy in that this movie was constantly on in the VHS player in my house. Loved it.
The Terminal is my least favourite Spielberg and I enjoy The Lost World, l love Goldblum's performance and the movie delivers on the tension in my opinion!
Hot take: I like Jurassic park 3 a lot better than this movie! It’s Jurassic park if made by the sci-fi channel, yes. But I respect the way they just said, look guys…. This is JP 3… it ain’t gotta be that deep. We’re not making citizen Kane here. We gotta get these characters on the island as quick as possible, and make them run away from dinosaurs for 40 minutes and then peace out. And it’s entertaining! I would most likely have it on in the background but I would always watch it before JP2 or JW2 no doubt.

I have a real soft spot for "TLW:JP" I saw it when I was 3 years old in the theater. I had the VHS along with the 1st and 3rd movie. I still believe this is still the best sequel to the original movie. Is it great, no. This video review proved it. Its more B movie, but I have fun with it. I think its a good sequel. Steven Spielberg clearly puts his touch of craft into this production, the action is great, the John Williams score is great, and the cast is fun. Its probably the darkest, most mean spirited movie in the series, and that even shows in its cinematography, which is interesting. I don't even mind the gymnastics moment because I've seen it so many times and never questioned it as a kid. I'll suspend my disbelief, b/c this entire premise and series is ridiculous. I like the movie for what it is, flaws and all.

19:29. In all fairness, Sara had only previously worked with African Predators. They established that Paleontalogical Behavior Study was a new field and that she had never actually seen dinosaurs before going to the island. Also, Dr. Sattler was also not a dinosaur expert. She was a Paleobotanist. Her expertise was fossilized plant life. I'm in NO WAY defending this movie. This is terrible. The gymnastics bit was where I checked out mentally from this movie. And the whole King Kong ending was such BLATANT rip off. I laughed so hard when they show the ship's captain arms still stuck to the wheel. So apparently the T Rex had Ant Man powers to shrink himself small enough for fit into the cabin, bite him with such precision as to leave his arms in tact. God this movie sucks.

If you didnt like it you didnt like it but I'll still say it, I've no idea why this film gets the hate it does maybe its the fact that my love for it started when I was 5 but even through adult eyes I think its a really good sequel.

I guess I'm in Coy's boat with this one. I saw this as a kid so it's super nostalgic for me. I always loved this movie. Except the gymnastic scene. Even as a kid it took me out of the movie, I always hated it. And I always thought the trailer falling off the cliff scene went on for WAY too long. Aside from those scenes, I thought it was great. However when I got older I realized why people had issues with it. You definitely over look a lot of stuff when your a kid. I was also Coy in that this movie was constantly on in the VHS player in my house. Loved it.

The Terminal is my least favourite Spielberg and I enjoy The Lost World, l love Goldblum's performance and the movie delivers on the tension in my opinion!

Hot take: I like Jurassic park 3 a lot better than this movie! It’s Jurassic park if made by the sci-fi channel, yes. But I respect the way they just said, look guys…. This is JP 3… it ain’t gotta be that deep. We’re not making citizen Kane here. We gotta get these characters on the island as quick as possible, and make them run away from dinosaurs for 40 minutes and then peace out. And it’s entertaining! I would most likely have it on in the background but I would always watch it before JP2 or JW2 no doubt.

Wishful thinking I wish yall sat through Police Academy sequels. I'm surprised it hasn't been a reboot or remake. Seems like no brainer to use problems of today and bring in new recruits to make police look better to citizens.
