Fun fact! John Williams was asked to score this film originally but after seeing a rough cut he decided not to and he recommended Don Davis as composer, originally there were rumours James Horner was going to score the movie since he had worked with Director Joe Johnston before on Jumanji, but after John Williams recommended Don Davis he was picked instead, John Williams provided Don Davis with detailed notes from the previous two films in how to approach scoring JP, Don Davis realised early on that the level of complexity that John Williams was writing at was something he couldn't reproduce so he opted to use the main theme and do his own thing for the most part.
That's not quite right. He would've scored the movie but he was busy writing the music for the movie Artificial Intelligence, so he recommended Don Davis.
Don davis gave us Billy Oblivion, ❤️ the whole score to jp3 is pretty great its not on the level of the lost world, tho John Williams out did himself with the lost world score.

REWATCH EVERY FRIDAY! Some Rewatch ideas: 1. Consider doing a “nostalgia rewatch series” once or twice a month covering similar movies Oliver Harper does in his Retrospective Series, but in your normal format. Would love to see you 3 take on long running, popular franchises like James Bond, Terminator, Alien/Predator, Mad Max, Jaws, Godfather, Pirates of the Caribbean, Expendables, and ofc Mission Impossible 2. You can get theme/genre-specific based on what’s relevant. Suggestions: sport themed Rewatches (since the NBA playoffs just happened), or best police franchises (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour, Beverly Hills Cop, etc); you can even get director-specific like Christopher Nolan or Edgar Wright Rewatches if a big director has a movie coming out, etc etc..plus you can always fall back to holiday-specific movies.

Joe Johnston (director) almost quit while filming because he was unhappy with how the film was turning out. Considering all this, it didn't turn out too bad.

I think just like TLW: JP, I have a soft spot for JPIII. Its not great and lesser than 1&2, but I still like it. Its a total B movie. There's no escaping it, but I think the filmmakers of #3 were more aware of it being ridiculous this is around more than the first two. I like the quirky characters. I like seeing Sam Neil and Laura Dern again. The idea of them not getting together is pretty smart and unexpected in a good way. I like the dinosaur action and the new dinosaurs. The side characters are at their most paper thin, but its a breezy 90 + minute B monster movie. Good score by Don Davis too. Still better than "JW: Fallen Kingdom" in that these characters, the family, are not annoying and kinda charming. Bill Macy, Tea Leoni and the kid do a good job. Its a watchable and entertaining enough movie. Don't think its a disaster by any means.

Jurassic Park two had a black girl doing somersaults dropkicking raptors and a t Rex walking around the suburbs lol Jurassic Park three is a solid movie. My biggest gripe is to short needs a better ending. Although Too $hort is far better than being too long. The special effects and action were very solid. Cinematography and props top-notch. It’s a basic monster survival movie in the jungle that’s a formula that always works.
@@LostHope84 Because the studio wants to make more money on it simple. Most others are one offs, mini series, shows with dinosaurs in them and children shows. It all depends on the IP holders.
The island and Dino size deal was mentioned as the further you went to the interior of the island is where the larger/adult carnivores resided in them. Tho the lack of explanation was dumb af. Basically just say the interior has more plants and freshwater, which means more herbivores, then more carnivores. All the Jurassic sequels, in essence, are analogous to the Die Hard sequels- they all have the same basic problem in that by going successsively bigger and bigger in scale and spectacle they miss the point that it was confinement and claustrophobia that made the original so great. Spielberg spent half the movie and an hour of screentime building up to his T-Rex. Joe Johnston just throws it away in forty-five seconds of screentime. That's the key difference.
I still like all 3 park films over the 2 world films. The CGI in the newer films holds up worse than most of the shots in the older ones. Even the Dominion trailer has bad cgi outside of the t-rex. Their 3D models are too detailed compared to the surrounding in the shots, the focus doesn't match and the lighting doesn't work. Maybe it's the lack of practical analogs to get lighting reference from or they something, but it just doesn't look right.
I may be the only gen z who watches these rewatched but when you guys say things like “is there a new audience” I want to scream yes!! Lol. My parents never watched Jurassic park and I only watched them when Jurassic world came out 😂
Well at least Laura Dern is in this one 😂 and her husband did legal work for the State Department or something. It was a throw away line when Alan met him at dinner. So I guess he called the Marines in 🤷🏻♂️ So happy this crew is going to stay together and rewatch all sorts of movies.
Fun fact, for the rex spino fight, alot was cut out i believe at one stage they had both animatronics smash each other while shooting and at one point the t rex animatronics head ripped off with hydraulic fluid spurting out like blood. That small cut scene is more entertaining than jp3 😄 🤣
I didn't dislike Jurassic Park 3 when I was younger, but it's definitely not great. I like the action-thriller vibe, the smart raptors and the pterodactyls, though. The stuff with the eggs, child Rambo, and the military at the end was definitely kinda dumb in hindsight. The original is a timeless classic and one of my favorite films from my childhood (I was born the year it came out and I watched it when I was maybe 4 or 5, way younger than I probably should've seen it). It's still one of my favorite movies. The only sequel I actually kinda like is Jurassic World, and even that pales in comparison (although I loved it in the theater). To their credit, even though most of the sequels aren't very good, there's always something worth liking that still make them worth the occasional, casual watch with friends or if they're on TV or something, even JP3.
I don't know whether I feel worse about you all having to watch this movie or Fallen Kingdom... both are pretty terrible. For me, it's Tier 1: Jurassic Park (by far and away, the best), Jurassic World | Tier 2: The Lost World | Tier 3: Jurassic Park 3, Fallen Kingdom. Really enjoy these re-watches though!!
Rankings today without seeing all of them over. This will change after rewatch is over: 1. Jurassic Park 2. Jurassic World 3. Jurassic Park III 4. The Lost World Jurassic Park 5. The Lost World: Fallen Kingdom
I share a lot of your criticisms here. In fact, you guys pointed out some stuff I didn't even notice lol. It's definitely the weakest entry in the franchise for me. It's exciting enough and it was nice to see Dr. Grant again, but it doesn't further the lore or do anything new and Tea Leoni was ungodly annoying. Nothing against the actress herself, but I wanted to feed her character to a T-Rex myself. It was also too short. An hour and a half for a movie like this is absurd. Despite it's many flaws, I still liked it overall, but it really needed a lot more work. I'm a little confused when you say this movie has a better story than Lost World, though. You seem to have a lot more criticisms for this one that pertain to the story itself.
Actually you got some facts wrong, in this one they are in the opposite side of isla sorna, so they never went to the same places that Malcom and the others went in lost world
Do you remember in Jurassic world 2 at the auction when demonstrating how the raptor could be used for military ops, they point a gun at someone with a laser pointer on it to show the raptor who to get. If you have a laser pointer on them you could just shoot them. You don’t need a mega raptor
Jurassic park was huge when it came out, but it’s total now is 1.09 billion and that counts the re-releases it’s gotten. Don’t think it hit 1 billion till the 20th anniversary 3-D re-release in 2013, which I saw in imax. 😎
I’m just like you Kristian, for years I would tell people that JPIII was better than The Lost World, but I rewatched it last night for this review and couldn’t believe how much of a bucket of ass this was. I don’t think I can keep saying that anymore, and I’m not really sure the story in this one is that much better. I wish we never got any of the sequels, and that this Grant, Malcolm, and Sattler reunion we’re getting in this upcoming movie was the first one we got since then.
Another great vid guys Totally agree - first one was brilliant Second one was stupid with great bits Third one was terrible Quite liked Jurassic world but last one was fucking awful 😜
They could do with hiring Justin Lin and just taking the movies in a new and over the top direction. I want to see raptors with Lazer beams technology in their heads being used in war. Pterodactyls and riders Vs fighter jets. I want all out stupid popcorn movie. Imagine a special marines/raptor rider death squad. A big military service outfit using Dino's for warfare.
@@TheKristianHarloff Just spitballing. I know it is dumb but I just want the franchise to go fast and furious levels of stupid entertainment. Maybe too much Rick and Morty for me recently. 🤣
@@LostHope84 so true. Even the idiots at the start when they went missing were annoying and they were only in it for a few minutes. I was so gutted that the only way to get the original film on 4k was to buy the trilogy so it meant I was paying money for this total crap. Haha
Watched this earlier, and yea agree… it’s a fun stinker. 2nd worst behind Jurassic world 2, don’t remember the title cuz it’s that bad, only seen it one time in theaters.
I still prefer TLW and it'sa better movie for me, but I do agree that this movie is more streamlined and at least it knows it's just a stupid themepark ride. Which is why I prefer it the the Jurassic World movies. And with the pteranodon scene we get a little bit of that horror vibe from the first movie.
@@TheKristianHarloff For sure that's the way to go now. James Cameron wanted to make the first movie, but Spielberg beat him to it. Imagine that, Aliens but with dinosaurs, they should do that!
The Lost World is my favorite film of all time. The hate it gets is crazy. There’s a lot of mess and drama that went on behind the scenes of Jurassic Park 3 that made that film the way it came out to be.
Who let's their kid go on a solo parasailing trip next to a dinosaur island, or anywhere with her new boyfriend like it's no big deal? Mom of the year award fail. Ridiculous. This movie pisses me off 😅
I don't think it stinks... but it's just kinda..... there? LOL. I remember watching this in high school with a big-ass group of friends, and we were all kinda like: well that was a way to kill 2 hours. Then we went to the food court, and I've thought nothing about this movie until now, while I'm at the office working, waiting for y'all rewatches hahaha.
I think Jurassic Park 3 is the most rewatchable one. I think it is way better than Jurassic World 1 and 2. It at least feels like a Jurassic Park movie. Jurassic World feels like a dumb syfy channel movie that somehow got a big budget.
@@TheKristianHarloff when I used to go to film school back in like 2012, I took a class about film marketing and they told us that because of marketing and the fact that studios get like 50 percent of domestic box office (the theaters get their cut) and less from the foreign box office they need the film to make 3 times the budget to get in the black. But hey maybe that’s not all the way accurate. 😬

@@TheKristianHarloff Really i think that Jurassic Park 3 is like Jaws 3D and by all its Flaws The Lost World had, at least it had atmosphere and the scene where two T Rex pushes a Trailer above the Cliff, not one Moment in Jp3 can compete with this. For me the Lost World, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom are more like Jaws 2. But can we say that the First One still remains unmatched, it is really like Jaws 1 and this Kind of Movie only works as a Single Movie
I still find JP3 my least favorite of the franchise simply because it does nothing progress the narrative forward and nothing new. The film rehashes what the previous two have done but much worse. I found Fallen Kingdom more enjoyable and redeeming than JP3 since (for me) it builds upon what was established in JW (hybridization, raptor training, more uses in cloning etc). In addition the film progresses the relationship of blue and Owen which is one of the major positives for this trilogy. A lot of those plot points will be continued in Dominion along side with the aspects of dinosaurs being integrated into the world’s ecosystems and genetic cloning tech being open source to different groups (BioSyn) Yeah there are equally weird and dumb writing decisions in both films but honestly I feel that fallen kingdom has the promising attributes that the franchise needs in order to move forward into new territories which really gets me excited while JP3 got stuck into a rut that basically embodies why some people tend to throw hate on the JP sequels (Some completely necessary and fair while some not so much). Im doing a rewatch on all the films as well in preparation for Dominion and being loving your guys’ discussions

It is!
Fair
I may be the only gen z who watches these rewatched but when you guys say things like “is there a new audience” I want to scream yes!! Lol. My parents never watched Jurassic park and I only watched them when Jurassic world came out 😂
Fair!
Well at least Laura Dern is in this one 😂 and her husband did legal work for the State Department or something. It was a throw away line when Alan met him at dinner. So I guess he called the Marines in 🤷🏻♂️ So happy this crew is going to stay together and rewatch all sorts of movies.
Haha thanks!
I know I'm alonish in this take, but I enjoyed JP3, of course I haven't watched it in a long time, so I can't swear it holds up.
Take a look and let us know!
Yeah and having T-Rex die right away was eh
To their credit, even though most of the sequels aren't very good, there's always something worth liking that still make them worth the occasional, casual watch with friends or if they're on TV or something, even JP3.
haha thank you!
This will change after rewatch is over:
1. Jurassic Park
2. Jurassic World
3. Jurassic Park III
4. The Lost World Jurassic Park
5. The Lost World: Fallen Kingdom
Guys this was one of the funniest reviews I’ve ever seen. So was your Batman and robin.
Thank you!
I liked the movie for what it was. It was fun. I liked the dinosaur scenes. As a fan of “B” movies to me it was a fun B movie
Fair
Just seems like it knows what it is doing even if it is lazy, Part 2 is a mess.
Actually you got some facts wrong, in this one they are in the opposite side of isla sorna, so they never went to the same places that Malcom and the others went in lost world
Oh really?
@@TheKristianHarloff yeah
Do you remember in Jurassic world 2 at the auction when demonstrating how the raptor could be used for military ops, they point a gun at someone with a laser pointer on it to show the raptor who to get. If you have a laser pointer on them you could just shoot them. You don’t need a mega raptor
True
Great discussion guys would love a Matrix Resurrections rewatch and Terminator series
We never got to that one did we?! Terminator is supposed to go down on the SEN PAtreon!
@@TheKristianHarloff be great if you could I have grown to really like it and imo a better end than 3rd movie
Jurassic park was huge when it came out, but it’s total now is 1.09 billion and that counts the re-releases it’s gotten. Don’t think it hit 1 billion till the 20th anniversary 3-D re-release in 2013, which I saw in imax. 😎
Infaltion though ya
Rewatches every Friday, hell yeah!
Nice!
Right
Another great vid guys
Totally agree - first one was brilliant
Second one was stupid with great bits
Third one was terrible
Quite liked Jurassic world but last one was fucking awful 😜
Truth
They could do with hiring Justin Lin and just taking the movies in a new and over the top direction. I want to see raptors with Lazer beams technology in their heads being used in war. Pterodactyls and riders Vs fighter jets. I want all out stupid popcorn movie. Imagine a special marines/raptor rider death squad. A big military service outfit using Dino's for warfare.
Right?!
@@TheKristianHarloff Just spitballing. I know it is dumb but I just want the franchise to go fast and furious levels of stupid entertainment. Maybe too much Rick and Morty for me recently. 🤣
This was by far the worst in the original trilogy. I thought Téa Leoni's character was awful and very annoying
@@LostHope84 so true. Even the idiots at the start when they went missing were annoying and they were only in it for a few minutes.
I was so gutted that the only way to get the original film on 4k was to buy the trilogy so it meant I was paying money for this total crap. Haha
Yeah she was
Watched this earlier, and yea agree… it’s a fun stinker. 2nd worst behind Jurassic world 2, don’t remember the title cuz it’s that bad, only seen it one time in theaters.
I forget, Fallen Kingdom! There it is haha
I want to see that if they ever reboot this years from now, straight up horror
@@TheKristianHarloff For sure that's the way to go now. James Cameron wanted to make the first movie, but Spielberg beat him to it. Imagine that, Aliens but with dinosaurs, they should do that!
Another awesome movie discussion.
Thanks!
I remember falling asleep in this movie at the drive in theater never rewatched
Try it again!
Be thankful that you're not stuck doing physical labor for work Kristian because a few more years of this shit is gonna kill me
Hang in there pal
@@TheKristianHarloff Believe me I'm trying but I'm constantly in pain which is why I desperately wanted the California dream to happen
“Alan!” 😆
HAha
When you say domestically do you mean all of North America or just the U.S?
US
i enjoyed it more than JP2, but i never have any interest in rewatching ANY of them other than the 1st.
Fair
I think you might have a change of heart of Fallen Kingdom, Kristian. At least that movie had a plot and actual tension throughout
We will see, I HATED the stupid monster and cloning
I know this movie isn’t great, but it’s one of my favourite guilty pleasure movies. 😅
FAIR!
I would watch Jurassic Park 3 5000 times before I ever watch Dune again. The only thing I felt watching Dune was bored.
Oh wow
Winston's face in the thumb nail
Haha
I agree that it was the best marvel MCU episode. My brother was lukewarm with this series until this episode. Even he thought it was amazing.
Wrong vid but I think I get what you are talking about ! Haha
😂😂😂. Also, this is a bad movie. But I love it. I have a blast every time. I acknowledge that as a movie, it’s not good.
Why didn’t the kid save his buddy? I wish I knew
Hahaha
The Lost World is my favorite film of all time. The hate it gets is crazy. There’s a lot of mess and drama that went on behind the scenes of Jurassic Park 3 that made that film the way it came out to be.
That is what I hear!
Unplugging starring Eva Longoria.......got this too.....looks funny .....not enough COMEDY MOVIES out there theses day !!!!!.
Thank you!
Who let's their kid go on a solo parasailing trip next to a dinosaur island, or anywhere with her new boyfriend like it's no big deal? Mom of the year award fail. Ridiculous. This movie pisses me off 😅
Lots of really dumb behavior
I don't think it stinks... but it's just kinda..... there? LOL. I remember watching this in high school with a big-ass group of friends, and we were all kinda like: well that was a way to kill 2 hours. Then we went to the food court, and I've thought nothing about this movie until now, while I'm at the office working, waiting for y'all rewatches hahaha.
Haha enjoy the rewatch!
I think Jurassic Park 3 is the most rewatchable one. I think it is way better than Jurassic World 1 and 2. It at least feels like a Jurassic Park movie. Jurassic World feels like a dumb syfy channel movie that somehow got a big budget.
Yeah it is definitely mindless cotton candy
At least this gave us Spinosaurus!
Haha
Jurassic World Dominion has the potential to be the second best in the franchise only losing out to the original
We will see
Alan!!!
Haha
You have to make 3 times the budget to profit on a film. So a 20 mil movies has to make 60 mil to be successful
Who says that
@@TheKristianHarloff when I used to go to film school back in like 2012, I took a class about film marketing and they told us that because of marketing and the fact that studios get like 50 percent of domestic box office (the theaters get their cut) and less from the foreign box office they need the film to make 3 times the budget to get in the black. But hey maybe that’s not all the way accurate. 😬
whens the other doctor strange talk?
We will cover the other stuff in our spoiler talk of Doctor Strange Multiverse.
Awful movie but better than Fallen Kingdom.
Dominion looks great from the trailers, hope they deliver!
Let's see!
I know Coy hasn't seen Fallen Kingdom so I wont spoil it....but all the idiots involved with how that ending played out are going to easily take the crown of "Dumbest Decision of the JP Series"
Could be!
I haven’t watched this in a while, but I doubt it’s as bad as Fallen Kingdom.
I need to rewatch Fallen Kingdom but I agree with you off memory.
Heartbreakers. Prime J-Love.
True
Alan
Ha
Oi !! Coy hold up lol born 95 loved Alan Grant as a kid when I saw the 3rd but I got lucky my dad showed me the first two lol but I agree with you guys this movie isn't great it's bad but I watch it bc is Canon and nostalgia also harloff in the new jurassic park Canon they say the spino was Wus first hybrid dino
So interested how the third World will pan out.
Might be in the minority here but 3 is so much better than lost world for me
ozark !!......all weekend !!!
I am almost done!
Superman returns had 232 mil budget in 2006.
Dammmmm
They should have had Laura Durn marry a high ranking marine or a senator to have that make sense 😂
Yup
Let’s get 50k subs guys! Show some class 😎
Just an ounce!
No, this movie rocks.
Haha
A full spoiler review of Dr Strange on Monday? Before the movie comes out to the public? Shame. 😆 (I know what you mean)
HAhaha NEXT Mon
This series is awesome. Been a fan since phase 3 lol glad this still going on.

Word
Tea Leoni (her character) is insufferable in this movie.
Yup
@@TheKristianHarloff Have been a big fan of what you do for years Kristian. Have turned many friends on to The Schmoedown. Keep up the good work brother. These re-watches are very entertaining 👍
Home Alone in. Jurassic Park. I hate Tea Leoni she's annoying in Bad Boys and double annoying in Jurassic Park 3. I like pterodactyl and giant poop.
Hahaha
It is by far the worst jurassic Park movie no contest, it is the stoink of all stoinkers, this movie is like a turd in the Wind
Haha
I get it
