How To Cure Back Stiffness In The Morning

  • It's safe to say we've all at some point woken up with a stiff back. Sometimes we can't possibly think of ANYTHING we've done the day before that would cause this discomfort. But it's not always something you did, there is more too it than lifting wrong, or turning the wrong way.
    Therapy expert Jerikka explains the causes of back stiffness and how to alleviate it.
    1️⃣ Inactivity: When sleeping for about 6 - 8 hours your body isn’t moving. The muscle fibers and fascia stick to one another causing that stiffness. So waking up and moving helps get rid of it by removing those “cobwebs” (muscle fiber and fascia stuck together). Movement also helps lubricate the joints.
    2️⃣ Hydration: The backbones contain discs that contain water. The water pushes the discs on to the nerves causing discomfort, but during the day we lose a lot of that water which reduces that pressure on the nerves alleviating that stiffness.
    3️⃣ Sleeping position- Sleeping causes displacement in the spine, using pillows in between your legs, underneath your legs, under your head and even holding one, will help neutralize the spine.
    4️⃣ Bed Mattress: Most people have the wrong level of comfort for their bed, sometimes the bed is too soft, sometimes it’s too hard. Some people may want to try different styles of beds such as spring-loaded, memory foam, etc.
    What can help with this feeling of stiffness is stretching first thing in the morning. In this video, Jerrika gives you some stretching examples that you can try tomorrow morning:)

    It all started after going through depression. I definitely need to do these stretches but I'm also supplementing with vitamin D3 and magnesium, among others.

    I just had to come back to thank you. I did these exercises this morning because I couldnt take the pain anymore. Now I feel so much better. I only feel the slightest pain but gosh what a relief! thank you!!!!!

    I’ve been going to physical therapy for ankle instability and as part of that they’ve been having me do exercises to strengthen my hips as well. The muscles of my lower back (which are also getting worked to an extent) haven’t been too happy when I wake up in the mornings. I’m excited to give these in-bed stretches a try to see if they help!

    Hi there, my back hurts following floor scrubbing. Can get up from bed okay in the morning, but soon both hips feeling the strain of the upper body and become painful. Sometimes has the feeling of dislocation of the back. Any idea?

    I am having lower left side back pain. It normally pains every morning between 5-7 am. I have history of kidney stone. I did sonography. There are 3-4 stones in size 3-4 mm. I consulted doctor and took medications. 4-5 days After completing medications again the pain started. Please suggest here...will it reduce?

    Chronic sleep deprivation causes me to get a sore stiff back. So the first thing I would tell people is get more and better quality sleep. Also try to go easier on your back if you have a job that requires you to stand a lot and do a lot of strenuous back activities.

      @@tajtabassum cat cow position seems to be helping me please check out back intelligence channel. I learnt few things to avoid sitting as much as possible, use lumbar support chair if I have to sit, avoid shoveling at all costs , bending forward is a strict no , shoveling not only makes you bend forward but also twist it can make any herniation turn from bad to worse. Squat if I need to pick anything from floor without bending. Hope this helps and wish you a quick recovery.

    I am active as heck....I drink so much water that I have to urinate every 20-30 mins at times...Ive tried a few different sleep postures....and I have a semi-new mattress. Something else is missing....might be deficiency in magnesium or something

      I thought it was from going to heavy on deadlifts 2 days before but it was more of the way I slept. Usually I would just sleep on my side but I ended up twisting my back and it kinda gave me a really stiff back

    It had been just 2 days ago since I employed this particular back discomfort, Kenzano Ayb (Go ogle it) nevertheless it already made a few difference. Important to keep away from back pain. As I had thought, it fulfilled my anticipations. I have just used it a few times however appears to do what it`s meant to.
