  • Do you wonder why your back is so stiff after sitting... or in the morning when you get up? The most common cause of central lower back pain and stiffness that makes it difficult to stand up after sitting or bending over- is a herniated, bulging, or slipped disc.

    Good Explanation. But what is the cure? What needs to be done here to control that bulge? I have a severe shooting pain when going from seating to standing position. Your feed will definitely help.

    I studied a lot and this is what I am doing now to maintain my health (I feel great now, back pain is gone and I have a chronic disease) : I hacked my office, I got a trampoline, a home bicycle, some elastic bands and accessories.. a stand up desk (from time to time). and I use them every 30 minutes or so. When I sit I'm using a lumbar pillow (kebado - you can find it on amazon) but most of the pillows will do the trick. Many people think that going to gym is enough... but studies showed that we need stay active all day long.

    Have exactly this stiffness for 10 seconds after sitting and standing. Standing all day is no problem. What also presents a problem is when I sit on the floor with my legs straight out to keep my back upright. I can't bear to sit like this and have to arch my back or rest my hands on something. I notice fatigue in the back muscles, no pain. which muscles could possibly be too short or too weak?

    yes, that´s what I have, no doubt now. I don´t have any pain but a terrible stiffness... I´ve been doing all kind of stretches that you see on internet, but it always come back... I guess I have to avoid sitting....

    What would cause pain 6 months post L4/L5 Fusion. I can not figure out why my back feels so bad. If I reach for something say to grab a back support in my chair and my back bends even an inch forward it kills. Once I get back up it stops. Could it be hardware caught on something? Could it be my bones have not fused? Could it be the spacer they put in digging into my spine? I just want to know what is going on. I can pretty much only walk. Laying down I have no pain at all. Twisting while seated kills too...

      @Vic LTD Anyone that think back pain is all in their mind has obviously never played sports or had real back pain.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Vic LTD did you rupture a disc or have a fusion? Any injuries like an ACL tear? Would you be able to cure an acl tear in your mind? I’m just saying and I think I speak for you since you are an athlete that the average person doesn’t understand the difference between pain and discomfort. Like being hurt vs injured! To believe real severe pain is all in your head just doesn’t hold up to me.

      John Sarno is America's most famous back pain doctor. He said pain is in your head. - Vox.Oct 2, 2017

      I would suggest the back mechanic by Stuart McGill if I was suggesting books for back pain! He works with power lifters and finds the cause of the pain using a good approach to watching someone move and what causes their pain.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Vic LTD Well I guess I should apologize for saying anything about the book because I have not read it! and I shouldn't have commented on something I did not read. The quote about the book was not mine. Which book of his did you read that helped with your pain? I will purchase it read it and then see what I think after that and let you know. As you know people who are in pain will try anything if it helps so what have I got to lose nothing, and anything has to be better than jumping to another surgery. Thanks.

  • @ambermroz1898

    I just had a laminotomy/discectomy at L5/S1 three weeks ago and I’m still having this problem...I’m hoping I just have weak core muscles and it will get better. I had horrendous leg pain and foot drop before the surgery, the pain in my leg is gone, my leg is still weak. When I try to get up after standing it feels like my pelvis almost disconnects it’s painful and sometimes I don’t know if I can even get up. Once I stand up I’m fine. This usually happens at the end of the day if I’ve been walking a lot.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      amber have you gotten any answers? I am in the same boat and can not figure out what is going on. I am 6 months L4/L5 fusion and it kills when I either bend over slightly like to brush my teeth or try and stand up from sitting. Once up I am pretty good and the pain is gone but can't figure out what is causing the pain.

    Is Naproxen good for this.🤔

    • @drcharliejohnson
      @drcharliejohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Megan! In the acute phase (first few weeks) it can be helpful... after that naproxen and other NSAIDS can STOP the inflammatory process from happening , which is a natural part of the healing process. In other words, when taken for anything other than acute symptoms/flare up, NSAIDs can slow healing.
      Make sense?

      Thank you so much. Naproxen taken with Omeperazol really eased the stiffness. I guess daily sitting behind a sewing machine can cause the stiffness.
