    In an interview with Famitsu, Miyazaki mentioned that there was going to be a unique leveling system applies to Shadow of the Erdtree. He continues to say that we should think about the "Attack Power" system used in Sekiro. Well... You know what that means. We need to break down how Attack Power works in Sekiro, and how it could be applied in the upcoming expansion.

    Hey FrownyGaming,
    In terms of the power levels between faith and intelligence in Elden Ring, which one would you say is the more powerful? I’m a little conflicted - if I should bring my strength faith build into the DLC or my Intelligence faith build instead. Hope all is well. 😁

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They are both equally powerful. That said, they are different.
      Intelligence can probably give the highest amount of spell-based raw damage. I believe that Sorceries out-damage Incantations in a considerable manner. That said, it has a much more limited toolbox.
      As for Faith... Incantations, on the other hand, might be weaker on the raw damage aspect, but provide enormous versatility. Access to support buffs, access to almost every damage type in the game, access to status effects... Faith can do it all.
      It is a matter of preference. Do you want less options that offer more raw power? Go Intelligence and Sorceries. Do you want less raw power, but access to a much wider range op possibilities? Go Faith.
      In my opinion, Faith is superior. I love having an answer to almost everything. That said, there is no right or wrong and... if you want, you could use both! I made this build for situations like this: th-cam.com/video/24wZm8fzgMc/w-d-xo.html

    I think this system is needed for Fromsoftware’s RPG games, for over a decade now. I am glad with the new addition (theoretically) exclusive to the DLC.
    Often times, the RPG elements are taken away from the player when playing a Fromsoft DLC. I actually do not have any issue with their DLCs at all, but it is still an inherent problem when your game is an RPG. This system should (theoretically) introduce a more dynamic progression system exclusive to SotE, similar to the early-game levels of their games.
    I trust Miyazaki-san and Team that they know what they’re doing with the system, as DLCs are typically the most refined/best parts of their games. And I hope they utilise this concept more in the ‘RPG’ games moving forward.
    Theoretically, it’s actually perfect for a game like Elden Ring, given it’s “too difficult? Well go away and get stronger” style of game design. The system should (theoretically) fit like a glove onto Elden Rings already-existing systems.
    It’s an innovative design decision that would make them standout in the RPG gaming landscape, should they continue to use it in their future RPG titles.

      I agree with everything that you said. This new system applied to Elden Ring will be an experiment. If it works well, I am sure that we will see in future titles. Thank you for your comment.

    I am really interested in how coop will work in the Land of Shadow. Will the extra-modifier be a condition like rune level and weapon level?
    I imagine the modifier will be ignored for pvp, but if it is not considered for coop, maybe your summons will just destroy the bosses in fron of you. Or would that be neutralized simply because of the hp-buff a boss gets if you summon? So many questions.

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My dear viewer, what a good question. If I were to guess, without any information, I would think that this "Attack Power" system will be taken into consideration for multiplayer, both PvE and PvP. The same way as Rune Level and Weapon Upgrade Level. Otherwise we can find situations like what you said, Summons could completely annihilate bosses or Invaders could deal more damage than anticipated. I am interested in seeing this more information on this. Thank you for your comment.

    Could you do a video about Quality infusion? I can pump many points into str/dex for inferior AR returns, while Flame, Sacred, and even Magic return more for the same points invested. Also why does Lightning have inferior AR to flame/sacred/magic? It doesnt proc a status. I guess the common denominator is the Dex stat is underpowered - or maybe it depends on the weapon. i know there's something im not getting..
    Edit: Does dex damage less because its tied to cast speed?

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      First of all, DEX as a stat is strong. It has multiple accessory uses and some of the best weapons in the game are DEX based (or can be built around DEX).
      To answer some of your questions... Quality is the weakest infusion at low levels, but the strongest at high levels. This is because it requires a lot of investment ot draw out its true potential. Running 56 STR / 56 DEX is expensive and requires more levels than, for example, running 80 DEX. But if you are willing to reach the higher level tier (think RL 300+) you can run a 80 STR / 80 DEX Quality weapon and reach amazing AR. Quality is in a weird place because of this. It is only good if you do not use a level limit.
      Flame, Sacred and Magic will generally give us a higher amount AR, but you have to remember that it is split damage. Since we are talking about two different damage types (the physical and the elemental) we have to go through two different defenses and two different negations. As a result, the higher AR will deal less damage. It is important to keep this in mind when using elemental weapons. Unless we are focusing on an enemy's weakness, using a pure damage weapon will always be better than using a split damage weapon.
      I hope this helps. Thank you for your comment.

    Great addition to the Fromsoft library of really innovative mechanics!
    I would love it if the system is successful and becomes part of the soulsborne genre for future games as well. Oftentimes there is a sense of power creep in a variety of games, from MMOs to looter shooters. Gaming needs challenge, but it’s hard to rely on just one number that always goes up. We need mechanics that balance, push and pull on the levers of difficulty.

    This begs the question: will these bosses give runes? Or, because they are wholely separate from Grace and hidden from the world, is all we can recieve from them this strength that vanishes when brought out of the shadows? I think it could be some interesting lore
    Realistically it is just for the sake of balance to handle all those lvl 300+ characters that can mop up each boss like some kind of menial chore like the poorly balanced and bugged builds on launch (at least that's probably the intent, whether or not it works out like that we'll have to see). There'd still be runes from bosses; just that player level likely won't affect much other than your health pool, how much you can carry, what weapons you can use, etc. Maybe there's some level of standard damage in the dlc? Idk, something I'm considering but likely won't be the case

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would be shocked if the DLC bosses don't drop runes. I think it is easy to say that they will. I mean, besides leveling up, there is a whole economy that is based on runes. Upgrading weapons, upgrading spirit summons, buying consumables... Imagine having to exit the DLC to farm runes in order to upgrade a weapon that you found in it. This new leveling system does not have to change anything to the Rune Level system. It just has to add to it while we are in the Land of Shadow. Thank you for your comment.

    I don’t think this will be directly comparable 1:1 to sekiro but it’ll definitely have sekiro inspirations. I think there will be a hardcap for damage so that the difference between a RL125 and RL200 person is very minimal. And from there the enemies will scale like the base game so you’ll still feel some sort of of progression.

      I agree that it won't be a 1:1 translation. I mention in the video how this would produce compatibility issues. I just say increase the vigor hard cap to 80 and allow great runes to work in pvp and boom the game as more room for traditional difficulty scaling as well as more variety for builds in pvp as well but nooooooo lets just slap together all these systems that don't work together and make a cluster %$#! Of a game instead of using traditional methods of balancing and structuring a game
    I really dislike the direction that this game is going in, and it is genuinely upsetting to me to see my favorite franchise ruin itself. I wish the fromsoft team would just take the good framework that ds2 built and stop using things from systems that aren't dark souls, dark souls 2, and to an extent dark souls 3. Dark Souls 3 felt like a cheap reiterated bloodborne with a mix of dark souls. The pvp was only good because of the player cap and accessibility. The boss design was great(at times), but the general system was poor because of the mixed system between dark souls 1 and bloodborne. And now Elden Ring mixes dark souls, bloodborne, and sekiro. These systems should be separate, but i will admit they are similar to each other, but tailored to different environments like bloodborne's fast-paced berserker playstyle or dark souls slow and defensive playstyle. But adding a sekiro system to dark souls is almost like a last ditch effort to save it from poor balancing in my opinion. Sekiro system isn't structured for Elden Ring's playstyle and should stay separate. Once I heard about the merging of systems I lost all want to play this DLC and frankly if this system flops I won't be surprised and possibly quit with fromsoft games until their next release.
    P.S. Frowny I truly enjoy your content and appreciate your work and thank you for evaluation of the trailer your posts and videos give me hope and entertainment through much of this games faults and flaws.

      @@dingdong6563 if you watched the video, you know that the new system isn’t meant for “marketability”
      In fact, out of the 3 interviews Miyazaki gives, in only ONE of them he was asked which new gameplay mechanics are introduced. He briefly mentions it.
      The main purpose of the system is so people can experience early-game progression in a lategame area (DLC)

    This is the only part of the announcement that I'm not immediately excited for. Why add extra steps? Just scale the Expansion for end game levels. If the power scaling is only for the Expansion, it seems useless. Ex: "I just a cool new power up from the Land of Shadow, let me go test it out in the Lands Between... Aaaand it's gone."

    • @TheLyricalCleric
      @TheLyricalCleric 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      From my understanding of the system in Sekiro and Frowny’s explanation, this is a solution for the overpowered endgame build problem of designing challenging encounters while not making the dlc so hard that newer players are punished. This way, there’s a whole separate leveling path for the dlc that rewards players of all skill levels appropriately-newer or more cautious players can level up even unoptimized builds to have scaled-up attack power to succeed, and overleveled power gamers can’t simply stomp through the content. They will still be challenged at endgame and beyond.
