This questline really confuses the shit out of me. So I see the basis of the whole thing with Ymir is that he wants to give birth to a baby finger, named Yuri, and he worships the mother finger (the boss) and believes the mother finger is somehow going to make him successful in giving birth to Yuri. Note: I don't think Ymir has been successful so far, because the baby finger, Yuri, keeps dying, and he keeps burying it. Every time he leaves the chair, you can find him in the graveyard crying and he asks you to leave the "two" of them alone. Presumably, he buried his child there and he's mourning. There's a bunch of question that follows:
1. Ymir asks you to blow the finger horn. What does blowing the finger horns actually accomplish for Ymir? Does blowing the horn help Ymir make another finger baby? Or does it do something else?
2. After blowing 3 finger horns, you get teleported to finger mother and fight her. After you killed the mother, Jolan says you "wounded Count Ymir most irreparably". So did you somehow physically harm Ymir because you killed the mother? Or did you mentally wound Ymir because mother is dead and he can no longer make baby fingers (he needs mother's help somehow)?
3. Does Ymir know after blowing 3 finger horns you are forced to fight the mother? If he knows about this, does that mean he just wants to sacrifice you to the mother because he believes you surely won't win?
4. There's a lot of additional detail you can get by doing this questline in a different sequence: The key information you can get is the relationship between Jolan and Anna (Jolan's sister). If you blow one finger horn, and tell Ymir about it, you can actually go down into the cave from his chair after he goes to the graveyard and cries about his baby. In this sequence, you will be invaded by Anna as well. You defeat Anna, you can climb back up and tell Jolan that you were invaded by Anna and you defeated Anna. Jolan will take this information and think about it for a brief moment, then she THANKS you for it. So the question is, why does Jolan thank you? We know in the end that Anna was made into a puppet. When Anna invaded you, was it Ymir controlling Anna? Because a puppet can't just decide to invade someone on its own, it has to be piloted by someone. If it was Ymir who controlled Anna to invade you, why did Jolan thank you after you defeated Anna? We know that Jolan is super loyal to Ymir, so if Ymir decides to control Anna and invade you, Jolan should be supporting Ymir's decision.
If it wasn't Ymir who controlled Anna, who did?
5. Who made Anna into a puppet? Was it Ymir? Did Jolan know, that her sister got turned into a puppet by her master? Why wouldn't Ymir turn both Jolan and Anna into puppets? Because it seems all of the male glintstone sorcerers are just complete weirdos that just can't stop turning people into puppets.
So many questions about this questline, I hope I can get at least some answers.
No, Miyazaki will leave it open and full of way too many holes because its far easier to write pretentious nonsense and let people dangle from the loose ends making knots where the threads were intentionally made to not meet. I have never cared as little about the complete lore of a game as little as -Dark Souls 3.5, Open World Edition- Elden Ring

@@vongolamistowlI think its fair to get frustrated with fromsofts way of telling stories. Because they are very interesting but sometimes quite bare bones. I enjoy stories with some ambiguity where you have to piece it together and come to your own conclusions, but it’s also frustrating when you don’t even get some answers, you get absolutely nothing to the point you’re not even pieceing things together you’re just making shit up.
To clarify - Ymir ultimately aims to become a new Mother of Fingers, replacing Metyr (who he thinks is broken) as conduit to the Greater Will and source of new Two Fingers. In the meantime, he's working on growing fingers inside his own body, presumably including Yuri (I like the observation that he seems to be repeatedly birthing Yuri).
1) Without any evidence to the contrary, I think we can assume he's genuine and the Finger Ruins serve as ways to communicate with the stars, drawing their (and the Greater Will's) attention towards you. They clearly stand in parallel with the weird ways of communicating used by the Two and Three Fingers (gestures of light and burning fingerprints, respectively).
2) Count Ymir still venerates the Mother of Fingers as a daughter of the Greater Will, and more practically, it's the only existing Mother of Fingers he has - the only example of what he's trying to become at the end of his transformation. Very important for his project. (I don't think he needs her to birth Fingercreepers - he clearly does it in the boss fight against us, and there's consumables that're said to make fingers grow inside the body - but it has big ramifications long-term.)
3) That's... a good question. I think he might've expected us to meet the Mother of Fingers without fighting it? It doesn't seem to require any sustenance or sacrifices. Definitely underexplained.
And no clue on the Anna stuff - the whole situation there is weird.
@@vavakxnonexus I think it's true that Ymir wants to replace the Mother and become the new Mother, he says it as much. He compares the finger mother and baby fingers that are defective to Marika and Miquella, who he thinks is mad, and says the mothers are "damaged and unhinged" and the children are "victims". But it seems he still needs something from the finger mother, whether is knowledge or other stuff, to make himself more successful in birthing baby fingers. So he gets super mad when the MC kills the mother, because the damage was "irreparable".
In terms of whether he's genuine or not, asking you to blow the horns, it's just difficult to believe he has no ulterior motive. He screams Seluvis. Both are male glintstone sorcerers, have very questionable fetishes, voice-acted in a similar way where the VA rolls the "r" sound, both make puppets and stash the puppets in a remote shack.

I never saw jolan so I never spoke to him and now I can't get the invader to show up. Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I screwed?
Anyone have any idea how we "hurt" Ymir and made him want to kill us by doing exactly what he said, follow his maps and our fate, and kill the Mother Finger that he said was making bad Fingers and give him the chance to replace it as the new Finger Mother?

How do you get the iris of grace? Also, I know you can get Anna’s weapon after defeating her, but do you have to choose between Jolan’s weapon and her spirit ash? I wish we could have both
There are two Irises of Grace, both in Shadow Keep.
I think one is in the Church District, while the other one's position is marked on the wiki.
About the Jolán thing, sadly, yes.
If you give her the Iris of Grace, she becomes a Spirit Ash (and you can later go to a particular rise in the Hinterlands and find Anna's puppet, that you can add to the ash to summon both.
If you give her the Iris of Occultation, she drops her katana.

Yep. Black iris gives the weapon. The white gives the summon.
Sad that most of the items in the game cannot be get in a single playthrough. Always hated that.
