Was reading a thread from early 2000s saying this never happens. 😆 I've seen it I'm every new beetle I've driven. Lol But glad I found this video. Gotta clean up a few spots with it
I'm very grateful for this one. In my Omega (basically Commodore but German) they put this crap on all buttons, handle surrounds and door arm rests and because of this, the buttons are literally hairy and seem to be alive. 🤢🤮
Oh my god this has bothering me since day one and I’ve had my 2003 Boxster S for three years. I can’t wait to try this this weekend. I successfully removed The safety tags on the sunvisors when I first got the car it did not know I could do that to the rest of the plastic this is going to make a huge difference.
Good Lord, I've been searching all the forums and nobody mentions how to take this crap off. Unfortunately, my 911 is tan but I'm just gonna paint the trim. black. THANK YOU!
🎉😊 I needed to reach out and tell you you’re the best thing since sliced bread after watching your video. I’m in Melbourne Australia by the way I went down and got some microfibre cloth’s and some isopropyl alcohol. We have 99% here which is great. I was very sceptical because I was researching a lot of vinyl interior cleaners and allsorts of jazz. I love my car to me it’s a collectors item it’s a Subaru 2003 WRX and I was really worried having this rubber texture on the door trim after a little bit of rubbing, not very much at all it has gone away almost completely disappeared. I’m happy where it’s at. I don’t want to go overboard and make anything worse than it actually is. I then followed up by a warm rag, hot soapy water and then towel dry the whole door trim just to clean it up and freshen it up. thank you so much my friend really appreciate your video
the stuff on my 2010 Golf is very thick rubber. it is gooey in some places but like new in others. the "new" areas stick like crazy on the backing plastic and is very difficult to remove.
FYI. I'm in UK. I used 91% IPA (you can also get 99.99%) to clean this residue off an old Google Nexus 4 phone and it worked after a bit of elbow grease. Meths and White Spirit had no effect. HTH.

My door mirror knob for adjusting side mirrors is sticky, do you think this would method would work or are they too fragile? I'm just worried about breaking it if I would have to put too much pressure on it with the cloth.
Hi! I have a 2004 VW Jetta that is covered with stickiness from the soft touch plastic degrading. I used 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol on the side dash and got the stickiness out with no problem, but it did bleach the plastic noticably white. Is there something that I can apply that will protect and re-darken the plastic?
Have the same sticky goopy dash too. Tried with your method this morning on a couple of tiny areas and it did remove the sticky without discoloring…so far. I will check in the morning to see if it has still not discolored. If so, I will do the rest of the dash. Question…What have you used on it since cleaning? Question…I see that you posted this in Jan…it’s now Nov and wanted to ask you if it was still clean?
Yes once the rubber coating is off it’s off for good. I put some 303 spray on it for a nice finish. You can get it at any auto parts store. I have no discolouration anywhere. It is a nice black now
So, is that actual dirt? Or is it some sort of finish they put on it that's breaking down?? And if you take it off you have the option to repaint it or to wrap it? Thank you very much for the info and your video
@@TheEddysGarage it is the degradation of the plastic layer. Aka depolymerization of plastic. Can happen to any type of plastic as it ages, or degrades. The speed of degradation can be increased by heat, moisture, etc. So it could potentially return in the future. When cleaning leather it is best to avoid long sweeping strokes, small circular scrubbing is better, though it does take longer. Remember that alcohol will dry your leather out so it’s recommended to use a leather moisturizer/conditioner afterwards. Oh and nice car

Did this on our VW beetle. Worked well.
Wow. I tried it and it worked. When I was done I applied some bumper black and it looked like new.

Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash) used in Oxy Clean and Pool pH buffers work too. Then seal it with plastic restorer like Car Guys brand. 👊😎👍

Hi ,
Same thing on my 2004 and looking for a quick remedy.
Does this remove the whole paint or only the sticky adhesive like thing ?
Thanks for the quick explanation, will give it a go!
Did that then used a silicone exterior car polish to shine it up
Great video thanks. 6:43 I think a good vac would do more wonders for this vehicle than removing the plastic layer :D

70% is pretty strong. I did it to a 2001 Beetle to prep them to respray the panels gloss black. Turned out great.
Use paint thinner and get the job dome asap. IPA is not strong enough, then wetsand the part and spraypaint with mat black, job done properly.
Hello. Just wondering where you buy that brand in the United States. I could not find it. Is the color clear or green? Thanks!
It is an Australian brand but any IPA at 60-75% should be fine.
Will it work with handsanitizer ?

What % isopropyl did you use? I didn't see the number on your bottle.
This one is 64%

Coat them with a ceramic coating after then you’ll get a shine and it won’t be sticky
