You misunderstand. He is not terrifying because he was once an angel. He is not terrifying in spite of being an Angel. The Angels in the Bible were scary unknowable creatures that were so scary they often had to start with saying "Be not afraid"
Also, you may have noticed he is unbelievably powerful. We've caught glimpses of Alastor's strength. However, Lucifer didn't even flinch when Alastor attacked the loan sharks. Not to mention he defeated Adam without much effort, a feat Alastor failed at.
@@Squibblezombie I mean you could say that, however, in the show we're shown that the angels (which fall into the kinda category that we can assume lucifer was) are shown to kinda be not intimidating like st peter. At the end of the day, he was surrounded by good beliefs and everything when he came into existence. Sorry if I'm not explaining all that well
True. And he lost SO much. He fell from heaven from doing what he thought was right. Forever watching from a distance, seeing only the worst of humanity.he gifted free will and humans squandered it. And even after he made huge sacrifice his original home and status in heaven, after he lost it all. Suddenly, his wife left him. Leaving him single dad. Which honestly sucks.
My favorite part of "More than Anything" is that after Charlie's verse, Lucifer shifts into the counter-melody and harmony part, musically allowing Charlie to lead and adding his voice to support hers. It just melts my heart 😭
Gets better with the other song. Charlie expresses her emotions better through songs. Charlie started singing a sad song, and Lucifer uses this opportunity to change her negative emotions into something hopeful and a learning experience in the best way possible: by joining her singing instead of talking about it after. "Let it all out, and I'm here to help right now."
"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source" If we look hard at Lucifer, we start to see how much that quote applies to him as Charlie's dad, leader of the Pride Ring and why he's so depressed.
One thing I’m kinda surprised wasn’t mentioned was how often Lucifer would wheeze as if he was going to start hyperventilating but is able to stop it. He’s had 10,000 years to try to cope with stopping the manifestation of his anxiety but has never addressed the underlying anxiety
@@phoenixlmao 16:11 here after he says “charlie” and then when he says “they didn’t listen to me”. You can especially see how distressed he is after the “they didn’t listen to me” line. I believe those are the only two examples shown in this video but I know there’s other times, when talking about heaven
@@Zikkartrue but the 10,000 years isn’t a percentage of his lifetime as if he was 50,000 years old so the 10,000 is almost his entire lifetime. We know he’s older than hell which Lucifer claimed to be 10,000 years old but he was one of the youngest angels hence why some of the angels are called the elders so I don’t believe he’s much older than that I guess about few centuries at most. But I still agree with the fact that 10,000 years for an immortal being would be nothing out of the time they could live
Rubber Ducks are a metaphor for Lucifer himself. He is the "Ugly duckling" of heaven. Nobody understood him and they didn't like his ideas, so they threw him out. That is why in the last song with young charlie sitting on his lap the magical duck floating on the table has the same wings as Lucifer when it flies up.
Since it's a representation of his dreams, it's probably that he thinks of mortal souls as ducks, and originally he wanted to elevate everyone at his level, turn everyone into an angel like he and Lilith tried to do with Eve. He tried to turn ducks into angels, got his dreams crushed and he became obsessed with just ducks, forgetting what they were even supposed to represent. Until he opened up to Charlie 💞
I liked how Lucifer was depicted as a quirky nonconformist, going through depression. Rather than the typical depiction of The Devil, that we've seen before.
I mean Lucifer doesn't have anyone healthy to be around. Charlie is remarkably well adjusted for having basically no one else around. I know that parental codependency isn't healthy given the lack of alternatives.
It's like taking the idea of Lucifer being cast down for his pride except instead of arrogance, it's actually joy, happiness and the unfiltered desire to share it with others. It really highlights how the system Hazbin's heaven runs on is deeply flawed in ways that hurt people just because they don't fit in or did something with side effects they didn't know about.
@@taiga738 I would compare the angels in this universe to every type of person, who practices Christianity. Ranging from those who genuinely follow Jesus Christ, to the bigoted bullies who use Christianity as an excuse. Adam is an example of the type of bullies that drove me away from Christianity.
The animation team did a great job. The moment that the weight of everything that Lucifer had to deal with hit me was during "More Than Anything". His face, his expression, his body language- he just seems so tired. Like, really exhausted
The rubber duck is probably a programmer thing. We have a concept called rubber ducking, where you try to explain your code to a rubber duck to figure out mistakes you've made. Which seems like a very Lucifer thing.
On Lucifer’s fascination with ducks🐥 Viv said that she needed something for him to fixate on and a friend suggested rubber ducks. She loved the idea because it reminded her of a Veggie Tales episode
It definitely fits since it's implied his true form as an angel pre-fall was a swan (kind of like how the two seraphim we meet in the episode after this have birdlike forms that we only see for a second or two.)
"Because I love my duck" "I don't know why I even bother 🙄" "I love my duck" "You just can't reason with this guy" (Episode: King George and the Ducky) Wait, VivziePop has seen VeggieTales?!?🤯🤯🤯
As someone with depression, Lucifer hit the nail on the head. The fear of failure, being a recluse, fixation on something I feel I can control, the replay of scenarios only to mess them up anyways, everything was stuff I did. I like this depiction of Lucifer.
In episode 8, I feel that Lucifer's "sorry I wasn't here sooner" is alluding to Lucifer needing to overcome his own internal battle. Rather than Lucifer consciously choosing to let Charlie get as far as she could on her own, I think Lucifer was battling his own internalized belief that you can't go against heaven. And it took his daughter being in very real danger to break through that internal block he had; thus, his apology was kinda like saying "sorry it took me so long to be ready to be there for you".
There's also a theory that Razzle dying was the catalyst, especially since Lucifer "usually charges a sacrificial lamb" for getting involved. I don't know if I buy that one myself, but then there's also the deal that was mentioned being made during Charlie's first meeting with Adam. In it, Lute clarifies that hellborn (which includes Charlie) are spared from the extermination while Lucifer allowed the sinners to be purged in exchange. Once Adam tries going after Charlie, though, the deal was off and Lucifer was free to join the fight.
Or maybe because his contract with Heaven stated that he couldn’t be involved during the annual extermination, in exchange for hellborn demons being spared. But once Adam tried to kill Charlie (a hellborn demon), the contract became null and void, because he broke the deal, allowing Lucifer to intervene.
@@jeffreyherrera5069i like the deal theory. I mean it makes sense. Until that point, Adam and the Exorcists act within their right, when killing the sinners, so Lucifer couldn't do anything without voiding that deal, which would potentially lead to an all out war, instead of a anual extermination (yeah, Adam made it to every 6 months, but you get my point) So i think Lucifer decidedly waited until heaven broke the deal themselfs. We even see him only Hit Adam, to get him away from Charlie. After that he distracts Adam, but never really hurt him, until adam, again, attacks Charlie. He is propably powerfull enough to annihilate the whole Exorcist army, if he so chooses, but that may have made things much worse
I've seen some people theorize that Lucifer wasn't allowed to intervene until Adam targeted Charlie herself, since he'd previously negotiated for Hellborn demons like her to be exempt from the extermination, which means that by attacking her directly Adam broke the rules. But I much prefer your interpretation that he waited because he wanted Charlie to be able to to as much as possible by herself. Also, I absolutely want the Sir Pentious video.
Yeah we don't have to have just one reason to do stuff. The political and business reason is that charlie is the only hellborn there and razzle and dazzle are pets. The personal reason is to let her do things on her own and not undermine her.
2nding the Sir Pentious video, though no idea what she would cover with him. I also kind of hope she ends up doing a few videos on the sister series, Helluva Boss; there's SO much there! Plus, because Helluva Boss is here free on TH-cam, there's less tangly copyright stuff to deal with, meaning she could go more in depth with the songs and what's shown in them (and both series show through song a LOT. They're True Musicals, where the songs actually move along plot and character development as well as entertaining, not just shiny fun distractions like the way Disney uses them). Hell (pun not intended but welcomed), Blitzø has so many issues he could be his own series just by himself!
This is briefly mentioned in the first episode during Charlie’s meeting with Adam - that a bargain made with her father spared her the exorcist’s blade: perhaps that’s also the reason why Charlie feels so strongly about the exterminations - she feels guilty over the fact that she’s protected while others aren’t, which in turn motivates her to go into the thick of the fighting in spite of having no real combat experience (she wants to experience the same risk that she’s asking others to take for her).
Rubber Duck Theory: he had memories of Charlie being happy playing with them and is desperately trying to recapture the happiness of that time. when the family was whole. when he was enough for them. and like usual, missing the point in thinking the ducks were the actual focus of that happiness.
I completely second that there has to be a past core happy memory related to ducks that he keeps trying to relive or revisit by creating all of the ducks. I really hope we get the backstory because there has to be something and it's likely going to be heartbreakingly bittersweet.
Having suffered from depression, I took his joke about the railing, and then bending over the railing as being a sort of dark-joke about suicide. Often times when I was feeling that way I would "make light" of such topics and joke about them, not realizing that was unhealthy.
TW for this, Not speaking for anyone else, just my own experiences with my failed attempts, but I realized after years of making those jokes that I made those jokes the same reason I would SH, I was testing if I could mentally handle an attempt. I still struggle with thoughts, but since recognizing that and stopping myself anytime I caught myself joking, I find myself contemplating things a lot less than I used to. Just commenting this in case anybody else is in a similar dark place and can hopefully now see a way out.
I recently was in a metro station and I made a joke with my boyfriend about me diving into the traintracks. He said "Do you look at all the people here? You will ruin their whole evening to all of them if you did that." And that kind of hit, jokes like these really are unhealthy.
Charlie: he calls ... Sometimes... But only if he's bored or wants me to do something ( like taking over the meeting with heaven in episode 1) Lucifer: this is the first time she's called *_YOU_* in years.
Classic mutual misunderstanding and self fulfilling prophecy. Oh, she doesn’t call me, so I won’t bother her unless I need her to do something or just need to chat. Oh, he only calls me when he’s bored or needs something. I shouldn’t call him if he doesn’t want anything to do with me
I think Lu is looking for me some excuses cuz he doesn't feel important enough to call her. And Charlie doesn't feel valued enough to call him. Like he says he's busy and she believes him.
You really get to see how crushed Lucifer is, and how much he cares about Charlie, in ‘More Than Anything’. I just now realized how, when Charlie says he doesn’t know if Heaven won’t listen, Lucifer starts shaking, trying to hold in his tears. Seeing him grow past his belief that Sinners aren’t worth redemption to believing in his daughter’s dream, is so heartwarming. She gave him something to have faith in again… I’m not crying. Y’all are…
Lucifer, to me, describes my depression perfectly. I smile and joke so no one will worry about me, but deep inside, I'm a total emotional wreck I feel like a constant failure
Y’all need to be listening to “Loser, Baby” a few more times. Do your best to find someone just as messy as you, cause we all are, and let down your walls. Defenses keep people away. Vulnerability invites them in. That’s super scary, but entirely worth it. ❤
@@ashleymelloh4017it’s way easier said than done, though I am doing something about it, it’ll just take time. I also have absolutely zero social skill so I feel like I’d flirt wrong if I did find someone or I’d be too blind to notice them
I think alot of his depression starts from being home sick , he misses heaven and it's beauty, and he tells charlie storys about it and tries his best to re create hence the rubber duckies , but he can't , but i think this is the original depression he starts with and it just grows
"a lot of people think that depression is sadness" - "for many people its that they dont feel anything at all." this is 100% accurate, when im at my worst and nothing else can reach me, i can count on music, more specifically sad music, to bring back some emotions in me. because in a way it's better to feel sad, then to feel nothing at all.
As someone else with depression, i never thought of it that way. I just had to learn to let the moment pass & flow away, rather than fighting it. But it never really connected that i would purposely listen to sad music, just to feel something. Thank you for putting that into perspective 😁
It’s so true, in my past experience having depression felt like it was blocking all emotions from coming and even at times when I did feel something, it still felt filtered and untrue and didn’t last long. I’m so glad this video represents that well, thank you!
@@void_hunter94i never thought about it that way. I just knew the songs and videos were sad. Havent listened to sad stuff in a looooong time. Definitly used to feeling numb
Charlie's foundest memory and what we as the audience could probably guess as being the last time Lucifer saw Charlie and Lilith before the divorce was him showing Charlie ducks using his magic. If that is, in fact, the case, then Lucifer's fixation on making rubber ducks could be tied to his memories of his family being whole and happy.
It's not the last time before the divorce. Lilith left 7 years ago, and Charlie was like the equivalent of 4 or 5 in that flashback and Charlie is well over 200+ cause she ages way slower than we do
I think that Lucifer placed Razzle and Dazzle as Charlie's protectors. When he entered the hotel this was the first thing (after greeting Kiki - another protector and magic enabler--> see rebuilding hotel in the finale) to check on them if they grew or not. Them growing means Charlie is in a pinch because she uses her demonic powers which she rarely does in accordance to her personality. So when she does, it equals an emergency and she might be in danger. So I believe that Lucifer got the first "telepathic sign" from them when they turned into their dragon forms and the second when Dazzle was killed. A few minutes later he appears[before he needed a whole hour to visit Charlie at the hotel]. That's why I think that he in fact watched over her by placing them as "danger markers" at her side.
That makes a lot of sense. Especially with how he says “Look how much you haven’t grow! Still fun sized…” Charlie is still innocent essentially. Having fun, even with some struggle, so they don’t need to be any more than fun sized.
"You can do this! Now I know it..." Goosebumps when I hear that line. "While it is important to believe in yourself, a little help from others can be a great blessing." -Iroh
Ducks could be a metaphor. Imagine a duck on water. It looks like it's just sitting there relaxing. However, underneath the surface, the duck is paddling like crazy. In lucifer's case, it could mean he's trying to maintain an appearance of being fine, while, in actuality, he's struggling.
"More Than Anything" literally healed my inner child a little bit. Lucifer reminds me (just barely enough) of my own father and gives me hope that maybe one day we can reunite and have a moment like this one day.
I refuse to believe no one is asking for a video on Sir Pentious. I'd love a look at him and a look at Vaggie personally. Lucifer is just as ridiculously adorable as Charlie is, I love how they are in many ways mirror's of each other. Their relationship is incredibly heartwarming even with the obvious struggles they've had. More Than Anything may also be my favorite song from the season and it's so cute how they separately tied it to both of the people Charlie loves.
Alot of people think it doesn't really make sense for Lucifer to act the way he does since he's literally the embodiment of pride but what people don't get is that shame isn't the opposite of pride, *it's the consequence*
A point I wanna make that was small, but missed - in the final song when he's helping to rebuild the hotel he says "A little remedial creation for me" not only is he fixing the literal damage and rebuilding, but he's rebuilding the emotional damage that he suffered. He was a creative guy who's ideas caused him punishment and pain. He found no enjoyment or spark from subsequent creations (rubber ducks), but in the end when he's supporting Charlie and doing something that matters, he feels much more healed and with meaning.
As someone that has depression, I appreciate Hazbin Hotel's version of Lucifer. I just really love that Lucifer is portrayed in a more humanized light and isn't the heartless monster he's usually portrayed as.
In the song "More than anything" when he sings "and in the end, I won't lose it all again", he's looking at Charlie and we can see through his eyes... and all he sees are spears and danger pointing at her. He then pulls her away from it and puts him between what he saw and her while singing "you're the only thing worth fighting for".
7:54 "He's created his own Hell" This is unironically one of the main themes of Paradise Lost. He CHOSE to do the things he did so in turn he now carries Hell in his heart.
I like your theory that Lucifer was watching the battle the entire time incase Charlie needed him, but wasn't going to interfere unless necessary because he wanted to let her accomplish this on her own. It seems like something he would do, and it would be great parenting. However depressed he is, you can tell he really loves and cares for Charlie.
There was also a deal that the exterminators couldn’t exterminate hellborn demons. Adam broke that deal when he started beating on Charlie so therefore Lucifer could interfere
He also shows up after Sir Pentious becomes Repentious, and tells Charlie that now he knows her dream works. Wonder if he could tell where Pentious ended up, and that ended up convincing him to join the fight?
Personally I think that this is sorta true but I think it more came from Razzle and Dazzle. Remember in mythology it usually takes a sacrificial lamb to summon Lucifer and he even mentions that he charges a sacrificial lamb in the song "Hell's Greatest Dad" so I think when one of Charlie's guardians who he created went anger mode and then died let him know something is wrong and he needed to step in.
I have theory about why Lucifer showed up so late was because he was giving her space and let her do her think but when Razzle was killed he knew she was in danger and went over there
There’s a theory that says according to the deal, Lucifer couldn’t attack Adam “unprompted” he allowed the extermination as long as he and his family were safe. When Adam tried for Charlie’s life, he violated the agreement thus allowing Lucifer to enter the battle. In this world, binding can sometimes be literal so it’s possible he was magically restricted from entering until the agreement was nullified.
That's my theory ❤ Adam and Lute said in episode one that Charlie and other hellborn were spared from an exorcists blade because of Lucifer's agreement. He didn't show up until she was in real danger, I'm betting he was nearby really wishing that he could help but couldn't because of the restraints of the deal
Also Dazzle was killed and minutes later thats when Lucifer appears so Maybe he wasn't actively watching but when he felt Dazzle die cause he probably has a Psychic link to both of them due to being the ones who turned them from Plush to Demon so I feel he rushed over to see what was happening and when he noticed Adam attacking Charlie went straight for that ANGEL PUNCH
@calebjones7868 obligatory add in, in world's best dad, dazzle is in frame on a plater as lucifer sings ..."I usually charge a sacrificial lamb"... for relevance to the episode, as a depressed pos myself, 12:00, we can listen or see other in difficult situations and not understand that that person needs help until they are hurting." We went through that situation and got through it without help and therefore, you can too" goes through our head, and that thought can go through once and we forget the other is going through it. Out of sight out of mind.
I never felt more represented by a character in a show than when during More Than Anything. I was sitting there, with teary eyes, and then it shows Sir Pentious doing exaclty the same thing lmao
My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."
I thought Luci being distracted on the balcony wasn't so much not listening as more avoidant behavior. He's so afraid of Heaven (or more accurately, Charlie being hurt by them) that he's grasping at straws to avoid the point of the visit, and how he's afraid to help her for the possible consequences. I also thought it was so sad his 'joke' about falling off the railing. Like, that's clearly some kind of suicidal ideation, right? 'L'apple du vide', to turn a very punny phrase.
I totally agree with you! I recognized that avoidance tactic because I do the same thing with things that give me a lot of anxiety. I also just realized that the falling off of the balcony joke could possibly be a reference of Lucifer's fall from heaven to hell.
yeah he knows what she's talking about, but he can't lie and tell her what she wants to hear, so he tries to deflect and soften the coming blow with humor. and let's be real, he turns out to be 90% right about heaven. they don't listen to her. even emily, who is sympathetic, ends up not helping (in spite of promising to). and it makes things worse - the only reason the angels don't kill her found family is because alastor coerces her into a deal that, again, let's be real, is going to cause something horrific down the road. and the fallout of the battle could well result in escalations, even a full scale war, that kill not only sinners, but also innocent hellborn whose only sin was literally being born there. lucifer wasn't being a bad dad for not immediately believing in her cause.
I read somewhere on tumblr that theorised that Lucifer is dealing with MAJOR dissociation. They even did like an analysis of what goes through his mind during the call with Charlie and I just cry because it made so much sense as to how and why he’s acting like so in the 5th episode
I've had to deal with that myself during a bad BAD bout of depression. It's quite scary to just recall little nibbles of everything because your brain is practically soaking in fog.
Oh 100%, leaning very into derealisation - especially that balcony scene. the guy is so out of it stepping outside after *a long time*, jumping all over the place physically and his mind. major derealisation
5:37 the creator of Hazbin hotel has confirmed that the reason Lucifer is obsessed with ducks is because she took inspiration from VeggieTales retelling of King David and Bathsheba, with Larry the Cucumber being obsessed rubber ducks
Huh. And here I was going to guess that the obsession with Rubber Ducks was a "rubber ducks are cute, innocent little things" to play off the usual image people have of Lucifer and as a way to quickly establish the tone of the Hazbin Hotel's version of Lucifer.
I actually am one that loves Adam as a character. His egocentrism is what completely defines him and it’ll be interesting to see your video on him. Even despite how he acts, the fact that he is in Heaven, shows he used to be a fairly decent person but his ego slowly alters him into this terrible self important person.
right, that last smile he gave Lute before dying totally humanises him... maybe this whole narcissistic persona was just a front. Maybe not. I guess we will never know unless Viv decided to bring him into the next season
@@mariogrenadine Honestly the thing that sticks out more to me is how his self doubt briefly shows during the trial when he's questioned on how he got into heaven. For a second he's thrown off and not sure, his entire self image hinges on his belief that he is in heaven, therefore he must be righteous, a different class from the demons below. I feel like that's why he so aggressively throws his weight around and acts obnoxious - he has to prove his worth and lord it over others because deep down there's perhaps an insecure doubt that maybe he's not as great as he thinks.
Hey, life sometimes is hard and for you it's like 20 Elephants heavy, but always remember that it'll not always be this way. You are seen and I am sure you will do good. For every step and every day, be proud of yourself.
You can tell when Lucifer is in his elemet because his wings come out. He is an angel. He is spirit. An intuitive. He is a creature of the heavens. The way Lucifer pops off in the sky -- his imagination -- is what a hyperfeeler is like around people. Adam simply can't keep up with him there and the narcissistic tactics that he uses to prey on others won't work. Every time he things he has Lucifer, the guy just melts into something else because spirit is mutable and insubstantial. "I'll destroy this idea you cherish!" "That's fine -- I'll just turn it into five other things somewhere else." -Vox- Adam may even have some intuitive talent himself, but his angelic powers are parlor tricks compared to -Alastor's- Lucifer's.
I think when it comes to the "what do you think about the hotel" moment, he knew what she was asking, but didnt want to tell her what he really thought because he figured it would crush her hopes. To me it feels like hes trying to baby her, keep her from actually trying because he doesent want her to end up like him.
I always saw Lucifer telling Charlie that he doesn't believe Sinners can be rehabilitated and that Heaven won't listen as him just being honest. I mean, should he have lied to her about her chances? He was kinda right about Heaven and there's clearly many Sinners who have no interest in rehab and who probably are beyond treatment. He should support her of course! But I think it is also important to give her a warning, especially since Charlie is pretty naive
The Devil will tell a thousand truths to sell one lie after all. He was definitely honest but he was hiding his real reasons. He was hiding his fear and pain from Charlie I think
I mean in the first episode charlie says lucifer was sent to hell way before humanity could have shown its development so the only saw the worst in people ever since
I think its more of a miscommunication problem. Charlie didn't mind that her father had doubts about her dream as we can see in the song "more than anything". He didn't stop having doubts, he just made it clear that he was interested and willing to help and support her which is all Charlie really wanted from him. I don't know how to say this but I believe how you tell the truth to someone is as important as not lying to them. When you tell someone the truth, you want them to know why you feel that way and what your intentions are and if you truly care about them, you take their feelings into consideration. That doesn't mean you have to lie, you can tell them the truth but the delivery of the truth is also important.
@@austinwitham109 That's true, but there's also the fact that, despite the setbacks in their relationship, Lucifer still sees Charlie as his little girl (as all dads view their daughters). He says that he'll "shelter and adore" her in their song and he hesitates a little when he agrees to set up the meeting because he knows he can't be with her then. That worry goes away a bit when Charlie reassures him that she'll be fine, but dads will always worry about their children when they enter into hostile territory.
@@jeffreyherrera5069 that's certainly part of it. I just don't see those notes as easily. No paternal bond in my life to pull from really, but it hasn't been an issue

As a child of divorce, my father never attempted to reconcile our relationship, or reach out, or try to improve. The fact you’ve recognized this… means you’re already more than worthy. You are going to do great. I believe in you.
As someone who hasn't experienced anything similar except almost constant argueing of parents but the fact the both of you are connecting over such sad and traumatic thing and comforting each other is fairly wholesome
My father died when I was 14 he wasn't the best but I was the BIGGEST daddy's girl the few things I can suggest is honesty be honest with your babies and if you can't tell them something tell them that you can't tell them, be supportive even if you don't agree you can love and understand without agreeing and you guys can meet in the middle and be loyal if you love your child BE THERE if I had my father i wouldnt be so horrible and lastly love your baby girls i know my dad loved me but he didnt show it enough instead of going to my nanas funeral he played yugio he acted like he didnt have kids so please love them i belive in you
Lucifer's "take that depression" hits way too close to home for me. A therapist who helped me manage my depression in the early 2000's taught me that acknowledging when I'm depressed is the first step to dealing with it. I started vocalising it otherwise I would never acknoweledge it since I'm naturally very avoidant. Now it's a habit so whenever I'm depressed I say something along the lines of "up yours depression".
Everything crystallized when he showed Charlie a duck that had six wings. Lucifer’s obsession with making the perfect duck is the obsession with making a better version of himself. It’s his personal therapy.
The way Lucifer acts to hide from himself is the way that I still do. The fake happiness I put out when in public exhausts me to no end and the effort I put in to make everyone else happy so they don't have to feel the way I do. His personality resonates so much with me in many ways.
In Charlies backstory she sees him creating literal life. a Duck. As an angel he created life. Now he can only create broken approximations. A person's job can be their 'purpose' and for many of us creative endeavors can be how we bring meaning to our lives. Losing those can really supercharge some depression.
@@alexanderjackson7521 the room in the cutscene is the same room as the ne we see all the ducks in so unless they made a 1:1 recreation it's probably in hell (also the reds are a sheer contrast to the rest of heaven's whites and golds)
I think Lucifer made Razzle and Dazzle, so maybe he can still create life, but just doesn't feel like doing it Maybe it's like an art block, where you still have all your abilities, but don't feel like doing anything
@jlhn That's EXACTLY what's going on, you nailed it. Right after creating the "Magical Backflipping Rubber Duck!....that also breathes fire," he starts in on saying that it was stupid and a bad idea and tosses it on one of the many duckie heaps. That's the thing about art blocks (or writer's block, or any creative venture block), you still CREATE, sometimes even a lot, it's just that you don't think anything you create is actually any GOOD, so it either gets discarded or left unfinished.
Lucifer is a great example of how depression can affect parenting and how it affects the relationships around you. And that even if you’re down you still love your kids more than anything
When the literal devil is a better father then mine. Edit: It took this video for me to figure out WHY I felt so strongly about Lucifer and Charlie’s relationship. Lucifer while flawed is doing everything I wish my own father did. Tbh my own is sadly a lot like Adam.
there’s a line in Hell’s Greatest Dad where Lucifer says, “usually i charge a sacrificial lamb” and my suspicion is that he was able to sense when Lute downed Razzle/Dazzle (one of those) - which meant his daughter was in grave danger. it’s probably when he chose to step in
It was Dazzle, and many are thinking he came because a hellborn(more ironically a lamb) was killed, sacrificed, so he came with the deal being broken between him and Heaven that spared the Hellborns from the exterminations.
Think its more than that. Part of it yea but i think he literally couldn't interfere until charlie was in danger. He made a deal with heaven, maybe specficially Sera, that they would allow the exterminations. That they wouldn't interfere in them, so long as they don't target hellborn, and especially charlie. Adam not only targeted hellborn, but specifically charlie. its ilkely the wording of the deal made meant that the pact could break even if it wasn't done by Sera's orders. So cause adam broke the pact, it allowed lucifer to finally intervene. its the only reason he'd not have been there to at least protect his daughter.
Me personally, I think Lucifer has made so many ducks is because it was the one thing that would make Charlie smile (19:07) and he desprately tries to recreate that wonder and happiness
I love to see how good of a father Lucifer wants to be and tries to be. He might be clumsy, but he's doing the best he can. I would really like to see an analysis of Husk :3
One of the worst parts of depression is when people simplify it to something like sadness or worse just write it off example my father once effectively told me that my depression doesn’t matter simply because he doesn’t see me as depressed but lazy and using depression as an excuse for not doing anything
It's for that reason that it took years to even acknowledge it, and when I did, my parents simply dismissed it and just told me to not feel that way. Probably made things worse than they would've otherwise.
The worst part : few yet way too many people are indeed lazy duds pretending to have depression to excuse their behaviour. And it's hard to tell them apart from actual depression victims.
That hat is really well made, I love it. I never expected Lucifer to be portrayed the way he is in the show, but I love it, and it makes total sense. After trying to gift humanity free will and not only being punished for it by Heaven, but constantly reminded of the bad things people do with it for thousands of years, I'd be pretty disheartened too. But I love how much he genuinely loves and cares for Charlie through all of it and wants to be close with her again.
I saw Lucifer's response to Charlie's plan as being more along the lines of "Hey, I tried the same thing you're doing - and it crashed and burned. *Hard.* And I want to spare you the pain and suffering I went through, because my job as your father is to protect you, even from yourself." That sentiment came across a *lot* more clearly in "More Than Anything". Also, I believe I asked for Sir Pentious' inferiority complex to get covered in an earlier video! And for other media depictions of Depression, I'd love to see your takes on Smile, The Babadook, or Lights Out (all film depictions of Depression as a literal monster), and BoJack Horseman, which has been widely praised as one of the more realistic depictions.
I don't think he specifcially tried to redeem sinners myself. Its more in reference to what happened in Eden with eve. Something wen't horribly wrong with that. But i do think its deeper than that. Ther eis something about charlie and he's worried about drawing heaven's attention. You can tell in that particular scene where six figures appear behind him, weapons aimed, and the weapons start aiming at Charlie...... he does not want charlie to be seen as a threat by heaven.
Only halfway through the video, but I (not a therapist or psychologist) get the idea that Lucifer's depression comes from a really insidious place: he tried to do the right thing by giving humans free will, and ended up indirectly causing all the sins of the world. It seems to me that his dismissal of sinners is intertwined with his fixation on his own failure. He tried to do the right thing, and accidentally created all evil, which kind of puts forth the (incorrect) idea in his head that trying to do good is somehow wrong, and that knuckling under is somehow right. I can relate to that feeling, if not nearly so extreme, and probably a lot of people can too. I think we've all had experiences where we try to do good or to help people and it blows up in our face
As much as it would be great to think Lucifer didn't step in because he was letting Charlie have her moment, I think from a storytelling perspective, it can't be that: there's no tension if Lucifer can choose to step in just whenever and solve Charlie's problems for her. I think it's to do with the agreement he made to let Heaven exorcise sinners, and the provision that Hellborn souls like Charlie are exempt. He was bound to his word (maybe forcibly by magic or more likely just because he's still an angel and believes in upholding his promises) until Adam broke the deal. At that point, all bets were off.
Theres a theory that Lucifers ADHD which can play into the him not paying attention charlies proposals and being highly anxious. Him being anxious can make paying attention incredibly hard bc hes so focused on getting back into contact with his daughter and not WHY shes asking for him to be there. He does care but he doesnt know HOW to show it and it can be hard, especially with a background like his. Rejected by HIS father for whatever reason that may be. I feel i can relate to as someone with adhd and daddy issues of my own
Her analysis opened up more of why i more than relate to Lucifer and I'm glad to know that there is hope for someone like me beyond where i am right now, especially if i became a parental figure or role model...
also, dissociation! he clearly WANTS to know what Charlie has been doing, but her words simply dont register in his mind. someone on twt made great thread talking about how much they relate to him missing words that someone (Charlie) says and trying to piece together things even he doesnt have full context. like, when she says "what did you think about hotel" and he, who missed the whole convo before, talks about railing.
My depression link that I'm avoiding: going back to college and getting my degree. Struggling in school, my whole life did a real number on any confidence I might have had.
Lucifer in this show is just a treasure of a dad. His reaction to Charlie introducing her GF had me grinning ear to ear. It is so awkward yet somehow exactly what you expect from a parent supporting their child when they come out. His just wanting to look cool in front of his kid and then botching his cool one-liner is also such a dad trope. He may have been absent from Charlie's life (except for a few calls and favors), but you can also see where Charlie got a lot of her personality from. Charlie and Lucifer both thinking, that none of the other would want to see each other makes me question what kind of parent Lilith was and what led up to their family falling apart. Such a good show 😍
I am fairly sure that Lucifer was contractually bound to not interfere with the exterminations, however one clause in said contract said that Heaven had to leave Hellborn (like Charlie) alone and not harm them. The moment Adam laid an hand on Charlie he voided the contract so Lucifer was free to intervene.
I love your thought of why he waited so long to join. I also think from a lore standpoint we know he made a deal that the hellborn have a pardon from extermination so possibly he is not allowed to step in. He stepped in when charlie was abour to die, so he broke his part of the deal when his daughter, a hellborn, was about to die. Thus when the pardon was broken. But your idea is much more wholsome and i think is also part of it
During the song "more than anything" you see child charlie be amazed by lucifer's duck creation, and i imagine he latched onto that and makes tons of ducks to perfect because charlie liked it that one time
It's interesting to see people from older generations liking this show (i'm 29 myself and i assumed your children are young adults or teens but i'm sorry if i'm wrong) I related to Lucifer because i can't be there for my younger sister as much as i'd want to, and major depression is one of the main factors (i can't keep a stable job and therefore can't move to the same city as her and i can't visit often or support her financially). I feel like it must be 10 times more heartbreaking if you are a parent in this type of situation. I'm sure you kids need you and appreciate your efforts and presence in their life, don't give up
I see a lotta people talking about the out of universe explanation for ducks. But in-universe, it's probably because the last clearly, unambiguously happy memory he has of his family together, and Charlie in particular, involved him playing with her, and a rubber duck.
11:07 it look like one of the first step of suicidal though, "haha, somoene could die falling from that" to "i could just roll there and die" His really exagerate reaction to it hint to it
I don't think it's his daughter's job to help him? Kids are not their parents therapist or emotional support. Plus, I don't think he wants anybody's help in the first place, he's a very prideful man.
@@Claudia_Crimson_585 i see what you mean, but i meant like talking to him more often or visiting rather than ignoring him and only talking to him when he initiates the conversation
@@Kai_Einar i don't think Charlie was ready for that since she was scared to ask him for help so they were already having family issues for some time now, don't berate her. She has every right to do what she's doing. He didn't respect her dreams and wanted her to give up on her dreams so of course she's not going to want to talk to him or visit him, they would just get into arguments.
Amazing video! One thing I wanted to comment on. On the balcony, I think Lucifer wasn't necessarily misunderstanding what Charlie was after, I think he was actively avoiding it, hoping she'd drop the issue. And given how he really doesn't know her that well, he didn't understand how much "dropping the issue" isn't in Charlie's playbook. Also, do Sir Pentious! Our sweet boy is the first redeemed soul! That warrants some analysis!
It's actually quite clear esp on rewatch. It's also important to note that skipping HGD harms this analysis in that it ignores Lucifer's attempt to win her over in song only to have Alastor hijack it to get a laugh in likely also hurt his esteem. There's actually quite a bit missed. Lucifer knows what she wants but also knows doing so himself hurt and he doesn't want that to happen to her. Heaven crushed him and he won't let them crush her too, even if it makes him the bad guy.
One thing a friend of mine pointed out about Lucifer in episode 5 is that he doesn't really use his powers to show off as much as he uses them for Charlie. Look at how small his wings are in the first song when he's bragging about his "angelic power" and compare that to how massive they are in the second song, when he's just supporting Charlie.
You are depression that's why you felt that depression took that hard/j (have a great day eat , drink and clean your room treat yourself too ice cream if you have some too ^^)
There is another example in the song which shows his character. When the angels spears are pointed at him he is indifferent and resigned, but when those spears are pointed at Charlie becomes afraid and reaches out to save her.
I like to think that the reason why he's making ducks is because that's what was was making Charlie happy as we see in 19:09 , and he's just stuck with that memory of his daughters happiness when he was showing her the duck so he's making them to this day.
i think his fixation on ducks was the fact it was probably the last happy memory he had with charlie, maybe he's trying to make a duck so amazing it will allow him to reconnect with her but his anxiety about it being perfect is making it so that none of them are perfect enough
"Doing something that is simple, that is repetitive, that you can just enjoy can provide a lot of affirmation" - I love that this relates to him just obliterating an archangel in battle.
@@bman296 Highly unlikely. They seem to make an actual distinction between earth born souls and heaven born angels. I believe the chosen term in show is 'Winners'(as opposed to sinners). But hes definitely not an archangel. LIkely not an angel. Now the exorcists? that one we dont know.
@@bman296 The original comment claimed he was. Which is what this is in reference to. Adam is a narcissist, if he can be taken seriously in any claims about himself is dubious at best. He also called himself dickmaster.
The fact Lucifer's love for Charlie and eagerness to spend time with her once it was her asking him and not him reaching out was equally sad and cute. He didn't know how to interact with his daughter because they'd be estranged for so long, and was too scared of possibly encroaching on her life where he wasn't wanted. But his love just outpoured as soon as she invited him over
I'm so glad you pointed it that depression does not equal sadness. My depression does exactly what you said, robs me of experiencing any emotion. The easiest one to express when I'm numb is anger.
One thing that isn't often noticed is that he made the rubber duckies because his tricks with ducks was one of the few things he remember Charlie loving. He wants to find the nostalgia of being a happy family again, not understanding that Charlie is right there. Bro was disassociating SO hard most of this episode Also I headcanon that the reason why Lucifer was only physically able to step in was because Adam broke the deal with Heaven and Hell in that Angels cannot kill hellborns
As a long distance father who has dealt with alot of guilt, depression, anxiety and stress because of the situation, I was relating to Lucifer alot more then I thought I would, which made me love him even more. The "take that depression" is literally how I feel at times, whenever my kid wants to do a video call with me. Can't listen to the "Everything" song without crying. Btw, love the cosplay/costume, really well made!!
"And know that people don't really care everything you say, they don't even pay attention to it. The only thing that people actually care about is how you make them feel. So if you make them feel good, even if your words are all messed up, it doesn't really matter." Holy crap, that singlehandedly unpacked a lot of my fears regarding friendships. More specifically, it explains my confusion over my friends still wanting to be with me despite my flaws because, in the end, I make them feel good and they want as much as I do to keep a friendship with me. Basically, they see the goodness in me more than the negatives.
I didn't realize I was depressed until I fought my way out of it. Society says Depression is being sad, it doesn't tell you about the lack of energy, that you feel like there's a mountain in your way to get outside and do things. I faced that mountain many times telling myself that I'll enjoy being at that event. Eventually the mountain got smaller. It was when I was standing on a hill instead of a mountain that I realized I had been depressed.
I kinda like how they don't paint him as a big, terrifying guy because at the end of the day he IS an angel.
I find it interesting how Alastor looks and behaves more like how the audience would expect the Devil to be than Lucifer does. 😯😈
@@Squibblezombie I mean you could say that, however, in the show we're shown that the angels (which fall into the kinda category that we can assume lucifer was) are shown to kinda be not intimidating like st peter.

Charlie expresses her emotions better through songs.
Thanks for explaining that! ❤

@@esteemedmortal5917 Rubber ducks. The road to hell is paved with rubber ducks 😂

The rubber duck is probably a programmer thing. We have a concept called rubber ducking, where you try to explain your code to a rubber duck to figure out mistakes you've made. Which seems like a very Lucifer thing.

@@jeffreyherrera5069Yeah, he had agreed to not interfere with the exterminations as long as they didn't go after his family or the hellborn
@@jeffreyherrera5069i like the deal theory. I mean it makes sense. Until that point, Adam and the Exorcists act within their right, when killing the sinners, so Lucifer couldn't do anything without voiding that deal, which would potentially lead to an all out war, instead of a anual extermination (yeah, Adam made it to every 6 months, but you get my point)
So i think Lucifer decidedly waited until heaven broke the deal themselfs. We even see him only Hit Adam, to get him away from Charlie. After that he distracts Adam, but never really hurt him, until adam, again, attacks Charlie. He is propably powerfull enough to annihilate the whole Exorcist army, if he so chooses, but that may have made things much worse
he needed a sacrifical lamb first before helping. he lied to her in giving her a family rate for helping. poor dazzle RIP
It can easily be both. :)
Yeah we don't have to have just one reason to do stuff. The political and business reason is that charlie is the only hellborn there and razzle and dazzle are pets. The personal reason is to let her do things on her own and not undermine her.
He also only showed up when a "sacrificial lamb" died, which was a neat detail
Rubber Duck Theory:
he had memories of Charlie being happy playing with them and is desperately trying to recapture the happiness of that time. when the family was whole. when he was enough for them.
and like usual, missing the point in thinking the ducks were the actual focus of that happiness.
He doesn’t realise that the source of her happiness was him 🥺🥺
I completely second that there has to be a past core happy memory related to ducks that he keeps trying to relive or revisit by creating all of the ducks. I really hope we get the backstory because there has to be something and it's likely going to be heartbreakingly bittersweet.
its also canonical that he has autism and Ducks are his hyperfixation lol

Lilith left 7 years ago, and Charlie was like the equivalent of 4 or 5 in that flashback and Charlie is well over 200+ cause she ages way slower than we do
Charlie is confirmed to be over 200 years old I don’t think he was THAT absent from her life
@@pillarsofsnow7940i think in latest canon rendition she's 20
@@g.yad.4758She's the equivalent of 20, but hellborn age slowly so she's, in actuality, over 200
Wow, aging 10x slower than humans...
I'm so upset that razzle and dazzle died 😭😭😭😭
@@sarahlandis289 I think only 1 of them died.
@@concept5631 I hope so. Was so sad tho. Pets being casualties made me really against the angels. Like at that point you're just being cruel
That makes a lot of sense. Especially with how he says “Look how much you haven’t grow! Still fun sized…”
Charlie is still innocent essentially. Having fun, even with some struggle, so they don’t need to be any more than fun sized.

Ducks could be a metaphor. Imagine a duck on water. It looks like it's just sitting there relaxing. However, underneath the surface, the duck is paddling like crazy. In lucifer's case, it could mean he's trying to maintain an appearance of being fine, while, in actuality, he's struggling.
nah ducks are buoyant they just float
That's a very interesting interpretation
The interpretation I have seen a lot is that Lucifer sees himself as a ugly duckling.
some also said that it represent him
the whole "ugly duckling" thing
Another one I’ve seen is that it may be because he was the “Ugly Duckling” out of the angels.
"More Than Anything" literally healed my inner child a little bit. Lucifer reminds me (just barely enough) of my own father and gives me hope that maybe one day we can reunite and have a moment like this one day.
Lucifer in HH is the type of father that every child needs
I agree
I refuse to believe no one is asking for a video on Sir Pentious. I'd love a look at him and a look at Vaggie personally.
Lucifer is just as ridiculously adorable as Charlie is, I love how they are in many ways mirror's of each other.
That's actually a nice little detail, good call.
As someone that has depression, I appreciate Hazbin Hotel's version of Lucifer. I just really love that Lucifer is portrayed in a more humanized light and isn't the heartless monster he's usually portrayed as.
Even though in reality Lucifer is not a good being, in this case of Hazbin Hotel, Lucifer being a depressed father actually makes sense
I mean, all we hear about lucifer is from his enemies @complex2live

@@JonJon-wf5yj Cause there are truths in fairy tales don't you know.
Yeah. I think that's what happened too.
I so want this to be true.
This would explain the error in his mask while threatening Charlie
@@ninachan562omg that is such a smart observation, I always wondered why it randomly glitched at that point
@calebjones7868 obligatory add in, in world's best dad, dazzle is in frame on a plater as lucifer sings ..."I usually charge a sacrificial lamb"...
for relevance to the episode, as a depressed pos myself, 12:00, we can listen or see other in difficult situations and not understand that that person needs help until they are hurting." Putting my vote in!
Ducky Duck
That holds a lot of weight because we see that there is no Rubber Ducks in that flashback
Theres also a theory that Lucifer's true angelic form is that of a duck or swan (Like how Sera's true form looks bird-like)
I thought Luci being distracted on the balcony wasn't so much not listening as more avoidant behavior.
I had the same feeling watching that scene.
it's "appel du vide" ^_^
Bless the poor guy! 😣
Lucifer's psychology was spot on, I liked the results from psychprofile as well
I read somewhere on tumblr that theorised that Lucifer is dealing with MAJOR dissociation. They even did like an analysis of what goes through his mind during the call with Charlie and I just cry because it made so much sense as to how and why he’s acting like so in the 5th episode
I saw that post to, and I think it’s a great take on why Lucifer acted the way he did
I've had to deal with that myself during a bad BAD bout of depression.
I remember that episode
(And I'm kind of surprised to see VeggieTales referenced in Hazbin Hotel)
I remember watching Veggie Tales at my Catholic primary school. It was great.
I thought it was because they made Charlie happy when she was little 😭
Huh. And here I was going to guess that the obsession with Rubber Ducks was a "rubber ducks are cute, innocent little things" to play off the usual image people have of Lucifer and as a way to quickly establish the tone of the Hazbin Hotel's version of Lucifer.
I've heard 3 different confirmed explanations
Seems consistent

"I'll destroy this idea you cherish!"
"That's fine -- I'll just turn it into five other things somewhere else."
-Vox- Adam may even have some intuitive talent himself, but his angelic powers are parlor tricks compared to -Alastor's- Lucifer's.
yes and that unicorn and kick he did was so playful

@@VincentEdelstein I'm so sorry to hear that from you... I'm in the same situation as you and I understand what you're going through.
Lucifer finally getting to be the hero, even if just to his daughter, was so wholesome 😭
His personality resonates so much with me in many ways.
this is literally Me
In Charlies backstory she sees him creating literal life. a Duck. As an angel he created life. Now he can only create broken approximations.
A person's job can be their 'purpose' and for many of us creative endeavors can be how we bring meaning to our lives. Losing those can really supercharge some depression.
I could be wrong. that flashback is possibly after he fell. Maybe he lost his desire to related because of the depression?
@@alexanderjackson7521 the room in the cutscene is the same room as the ne we see all the ducks in so unless they made a 1:1 recreation it's probably in hell (also the reds are a sheer contrast to the rest of heaven's whites and golds)
Could be he can only create broken approximations because he sees himself as broken and flawed.
I think Lucifer made Razzle and Dazzle, so maybe he can still create life, but just doesn't feel like doing it
Maybe it's like an art block, where you still have all your abilities, but don't feel like doing anything
Edit:
It took this video for me to figure out WHY I felt so strongly about Lucifer and Charlie’s relationship. Lucifer while flawed is doing everything I wish my own father did. Tbh my own is sadly a lot like Adam.
there’s a line in Hell’s Greatest Dad where Lucifer says, “usually i charge a sacrificial lamb”
and my suspicion is that he was able to sense when Lute downed Razzle/Dazzle (one of those) - which meant his daughter was in grave danger. it’s probably when he chose to step in
It was Dazzle, and many are thinking he came because a hellborn(more ironically a lamb) was killed, sacrificed, so he came with the deal being broken between him and Heaven that spared the Hellborns from the exterminations.
@@a_blue_caraval yeah that also makes sense! i also got to rewatch the episode and realized charlie was in fact on razzle. thanks for the info!
@@katchii93 of course! I've been following this thing since the beginning so I'm just happy to have more people talk to this about!
Growing in house that doesn't accept mental illness and issues and everything is laziness I understand
Yeah
It's for that reason that it took years to even acknowledge it, and when I did, my parents simply dismissed it and just told me to not feel that way. Probably made things worse than they would've otherwise.
Yeah, it's only now that I'm 47 that my hard as nails mother is starting to kind of realize that depression might be a real thing.
The worst part : few yet way too many people are indeed lazy duds pretending to have depression to excuse their behaviour. And it's hard to tell them apart from actual depression victims.
Just so we are clear - I REALLY want an episode on Sir Pentious
I thought the reason we weren't saying it was because she already said she was doing it
It's OK. That song made me cry too. It strikes a chord with everyone who has had a parent be absent at any point in their lives

I feel i can relate to as someone with adhd and daddy issues of my own
The theory of him being ND is also supported by the whole "out of the box" thinking when in heaven, and being outcasted by the angels for his ideas
As someone with adhd I personally did relate to lucifer alptz so I could definitely see him maybe having adhd.
Her analysis opened up more of why i more than relate to Lucifer and I'm glad to know that there is hope for someone like me beyond where i am right now, especially if i became a parental figure or role model...
That really rings true for me. Depression often piggybacks with adhd
also, dissociation! he clearly WANTS to know what Charlie has been doing, but her words simply dont register in his mind. someone on twt made great thread talking about how much they relate to him missing words that someone (Charlie) says and trying to piece together things even he doesnt have full context. like, when she says "what did you think about hotel" and he, who missed the whole convo before, talks about railing.
But your idea is much more wholsome and i think is also part of it
During the song "more than anything" you see child charlie be amazed by lucifer's duck creation, and i imagine he latched onto that and makes tons of ducks to perfect because charlie liked it that one time
Depressed Dad. I can so relate. We love our children so much, But sometimes we don’t know how to reach out, to connect.
As far as rubber ducks. Think of it like any dad’s hyper fixation. Models, trains, tools. A way to avoid the voices in your own head.
Yup. Same
stay strong, king!
It's interesting to see people from older generations liking this show (i'm 29 myself and i assumed your children are young adults or teens but i'm sorry if i'm wrong)
I related to Lucifer because i can't be there for my younger sister as much as i'd want to, and major depression is one of the main factors (i can't keep a stable job and therefore can't move to the same city as her and i can't visit often or support her financially). I feel like it must be 10 times more heartbreaking if you are a parent in this type of situation. I'm sure you kids need you and appreciate your efforts and presence in their life, don't give up
@@g.yad.4758 4, 8, and 18. But I did start a bit late. Keep in mind though. That pilot has been floating around the Internet for five years now.
I see a lotta people talking about the out of universe explanation for ducks. But in-universe, it's probably because the last clearly, unambiguously happy memory he has of his family together, and Charlie in particular, involved him playing with her, and a rubber duck.
Taking a minute for the video production, dawn, for each video the costumes get better, LOOK AT THE LUCIFER LOOK its perfect
appreciate that thank you so much
11:07 it look like one of the first step of suicidal though, "haha, somoene could die falling from that" to "i could just roll there and die"
His really exagerate reaction to it hint to it
i always think it's sad that charlie wanted to help everyone but never thought about helping her father who obviously needed it
Cuz that is part of her own issue, and most of the time, seems easier to solve the problems from others rather than our own.
He hid the fact he needed it
I don't think it's his daughter's job to help him?
Yes exactly! I was gonna say that too!
"Take that depression!" I don't have depression, but I felt that.
You are depression that's why you felt that depression took that hard/j (have a great day eat , drink and clean your room treat yourself too ice cream if you have some too ^^)
Lucifer: take that, depression!
You: getting emotional at this episode
me in Husker's voice: Daddy issues?
💀
Shudup 😅
I heard Husker and OSP Red at the same time.
I wish I had Husker's voice
*nods* daddy issues
There is another example in the song which shows his character. When the angels spears are pointed at him he is indifferent and resigned, but when those spears are pointed at Charlie becomes afraid and reaches out to save her.
I like to think that the reason why he's making ducks is because that's what was was making Charlie happy as we see in 19:09 , and he's just stuck with that memory of his daughters happiness when he was showing her the duck so he's making them to this day.
Good catch!
Making a heavenly duck, one that is magical.. the closet Lucifer has gotten to is on that spits fire out as it squeaks.
i think his fixation on ducks was the fact it was probably the last happy memory he had with charlie, maybe he's trying to make a duck so amazing it will allow him to reconnect with her but his anxiety about it being perfect is making it so that none of them are perfect enough
"Doing something that is simple, that is repetitive, that you can just enjoy can provide a lot of affirmation" - I love that this relates to him just obliterating an archangel in battle.
Adam was not an archangel. I guess in this context he would be a Saint? idk hes not an angel though.
He is an angle, everyone in heaven technically is @BOYVIRGO666
@@bman296 Highly unlikely. They seem to make an actual distinction between earth born souls and heaven born angels. I believe the chosen term in show is 'Winners'(as opposed to sinners). But hes definitely not an archangel. LIkely not an angel. Now the exorcists? that one we dont know.
@BOYVIRGO666 never claimed he was an archangel just an angel. That's all ima say. He even says it in the song "an angel just like us"
@@bman296 The original comment claimed he was.
But his love just outpoured as soon as she invited him over
I fully believe Luci was watching from the moment the gate to heaven opened and wanted to just make sure she was safe.
Bro was disassociating SO hard most of this episode
Also I headcanon that the reason why Lucifer was only physically able to step in was because Adam broke the deal with Heaven and Hell in that Angels cannot kill hellborns
It is theorized that Lucifer felt Sir Pentious Ascension, knowing that charlie's plan can work and that's why he showed up late.
I absolutely need Sir Pentious but also Vaggie. I love them both.
So if you make them feel good, even if your words are all messed up, it doesn't really matter."
Holy crap, that singlehandedly unpacked a lot of my fears regarding friendships.
Glad you're better
Fell in love with Lucifer faster than expected. Top three favorite characters.
I didnt know this is where "take that depression" was from. Im actually so happy that he knows.
