I think a big part about Nifty's social awareness is the one two punch of her relationship with Alastor and her status as a sinner. As a sinner, nothing short of extreme supernatural means can ACTUALLY kill Nifty. You can blow her to bits, set her on fire, shoot her, etc. and she will always heal and be able to pull herself back together by the end of the day. Combine that with her S&M fixation and you get someone who enjoys taking ridicules risks just to see if they can get away with it because there are no consequences beyond some temporary pain that she actually enjoys. The second part is that Nifty knows that no matter how much she messes up, she can always count on Alastor to bail her out. Let's be real here, its very unlikely that a former Overlord like Nifty would really get stuck in a toilet by accident but it is something she would do on purpose because she likes the feeling of knowing that the ultimate bad boy WILL go out of his way to help her no matter how inconvenient it is. It makes her feel cared for. Its also probably a big part of why she is one of Alastor's few genuine emotional connections. According to Vivziepop, the show's creator, Alastor was a mix race creole bastard born in the early 1900s. His white father abandoned him to avoid the social stigma of the relationship getting out and Alastor ended up being raised by his mother who home schooled him to make sure he got the best education possible. She ended up getting sick and Alastor had to take care of her during the final years of her life. Nifty's dedication to others and need for others to take care of her probably reminds Alastor of her.
For what it's worth, I know I have OCD. But I now believe I also have performance anxiety. When my sister reminds me of my chores, she don't use a full list. So, when I think she's done asking things of me or reminding me of things, it turns out she isn't. What really aggravates me is when she uses more than one "and"; I hate the confusion it causes. I always knew I could not focus on multiple things at once, but now, I realize that's why I hate it when she uses more than one "and". It's because I cannot focus. But please, don't me bother you.
Also, according to the show's creator, Nifty is a Japanese American from the fifties. Which, if you are familiar with the history of that time period, would know that that makes it highly likely that Nifty spent time in an internment camp. So it is most likely that Nifty has trauma.
If only there was somewhere free we can see the uncensored content, but I also understand that people have to compromise to eke out a living these days.
That scene always reminds me of the messes my mantises used to make whenever I fed them moths. The fur got _everywhere._ Then the mantids would hang there and clean themselves like cats for half an hour. Such adorable little creatures.
I thought "Surely, Nifty doesn't have enough screentime to make a video on her. Surely, she is just a one dimensional character with no actual substance to analyze". Boy was I wrong. A 28 minute long video lets gooo
What I think about the line "I am - the MESS?", that it had much more profound meaning for Niffty. It wasn't just about her fear of being messy behaving person, but that Angel literally downgraded her to the only thing she absolutely hates - the mess, the literall one, that she takes care about in hotel and etc. Like, not "You are not in control and doing bad things right now", but "You are literally the same as the dirt, that you are so hard trying to get rid off"
i struggle with this a little, but i suspect nifty might have the contamination type of OCD, her obsession with everything being clean might be because she herself wants to be clean, so being told she's a mess loke that when she's been cleaning all along to avoid getting contaminated with the mess must be devastating..
I also think Angel was projecting because Angel himself is a hot mess. But it also seems he's doing it of empathy like "Nifty don't be like me, I'm trying to help you". Which is both telling and sad for both of them.
Obviously wasn’t nice of Angel to say that, but I don’t think he understood exactly how much that hurt her until she started crying And then he at least did his best to try and help her.
Nifty’s “for my collection” when she rips part of Valentino’s fur makes me believe that her room is decorated with the remains of the bugs that she’s killed over her time at the hotel. And I think I speak for the large majority of the Hazbin fan base when I say that we would be pretty happy to see the rest of Val on Nifty’s wall
Isn't that kind of confirmed by the show though? I mean, you've got the "King Roach" crown she gives Alastor, which has dead bugs woven all through it, and she mentions in the same scene about "roach puppet shows," so, yeah, she at the very least keeps most of the bugs she kills to make crafts out of.... The fur that she ripped off of Valentino might be part of a different "collection" though. You think Nifty's now got a piece of Adam in there too?
Now see, this leads into my theory... She collects pieces of 'bad boys' to create... voo doo dolls. (Or in the case of those she's already defeated, trophies, like Adam, maybe she grabbed something of his). It would explain this 'collection' of hers she took some fluff from Valentino for). This would also explain some of the 'bond' between she & Alastor... They have an 'interest' in common. She honestly might be a cannibal too, she was ready to take a bite out of Valentino.
Niffty seems to sense 2 things with Valentino: 1. He means harm, and she might unconsciously sense Angel’s distress around him. 2. He’s a moth demon aka a bug. She’s coming after him and everything he loves (On a side note, seeing another video of Angel being the hero/protective of people would be amazing if you decide to do it)
I support the theory she was an abused housewife that killed her husband. And she justified it in her mind by calling “him” a bug. Maybe even met him again in hell in the form of a bug. It’d explain a lot like her lack of social awareness cause he isolated her and her childlike demeanor to feel safe and her ocd and attraction to bad boys.
@@Aceoffailure that’s what some people believe. But my theory goes is that her “bad boy” was her high school sweetheart who she ran away with. Only for the reality to sink in along with heavy denial about how abusive he really is. Till she reached a breaking point and had to “exterminate” the bugs.
There is now also a theory that she got lobotomized by her husband that abused her (if she had a husband) and that she became crazy after it because doctors had poked in her brain
I saw a theory I liked that she wanted to be a housewife, and obsessed over it. Because of her behavior, she scared the boys away. She went to her crush's house in the middle of the night in an effort to impress him by making him a meal, but someone in the house caught her and shot her three times.
Nifty's "acting" was taken as a joke by everyone but I saw her freeze and blackout and I 100% recognized it as performance anxiety and I'm SO GLAD that someone finally pointed out it 😭🤣
I'm apart of theater and I got such a bad grade because I froze up. I find it funny how I went from being the literal villain to just doing makeup. (The makeup makes me happy and I get free time to sleep until bows, so it's great)
I love that when the news report happens in the final episode she has the exact same expression. At first I thought that it was a mugshot of her, then I realized it was just Nifty had been put in front of a camera and did what she does in front of cameras.
I think the fact that he happens to be a bug is kind of 'the joke', but actually isn't what drew her to him, his being a VERY bad boy who hurt her friend, seems more the case here, especially when she went straight to biting him (not her usual method). I think Nifty might have some cannibalistic tendencies like Alastor, which she limits to those who are 'particularly bad'. (Also like Alastor). I also think she makes voo doo dolls, thus pulling some of Val's fluff for her 'collection'.
If Nifty is in the area: As a friend - She's harmless, just keep an eye out for her. As not a friend - Watch your back and pray to Lucifer you don't appear as a "Bad Boy".
I'm surprised you didn't talk about her "punish bad boys" line. For someone who instantly disliked Sir Pentious when he didn't turn out to be the bad boy she wanted, yet wanting to be in control to punish them gives you a lot to think about
Probably because it’s too “graphic” to show on TH-cam. Maybe it’s on her longer video on Nebula. She also didn’t mention the “I like to be forced” comment she made to Husk.
I think the more telling part is Husk's reaction. He knows more about Nifty than most do. He was enjoying a massage, but when Nifty said she's ready to punish some bad boys, he immediately decided he wanted to get out of there.
I imagine when Nifty met Alastor, she was like "Oooo, a bad boy 😈" then immediately signs away her soul to him because she saw how powerful he was. Lol
I have joked that either Alastor doesn't even own her soul and she just followed him home one day like the Cat Distribution System, or he came to her with a whole manipulation planned to make a deal but the second he says "let's make a deal" she just goes "okay!" and goes to grab his hand before he's even outlined any terms.
To help your understand of the character Georgia, Niffty has been confirmed by the creators to have been 22 at the time of her death in the 1950s. She's a first generation Japanese-American, which means that she very likely spent a number of her teenage years in the Japanese-American Internment Camps
That would help explain a lot of her childlike personality and obsession with cleanliness. I know that, culturally, cleanliness is very important to the Japanese, hence the indoor shoes, and Niffty's OCD would absolutely push that up to 12 or 13. Also, when people are put into a prison system, they have a tendency to stop aging mentally. It would not surprise me to find out that she was even a preteen when she was interned.
@@deadrunners5937 Well if she was 22 at the time of her death, and the camps were 1942 to 1946, she would have been between 4 and 14 ( year of death being 1959->1950) assuming her family was put there in 1942.
@@InfinityKrompt Well that would mean she didn't really have a safe childhood. So that would track with what Georgia said, and it would make sense why she's still so childlike
Niffty is also one of the only people Alastor really seems to have a bond with. She is the only one he really let’s touch him and he really seems to have some amount of affection toward her which ist toward anyone else.
I did not expect Niffty to go this deep. Wow. She is mostly comic relief, but she is used sparingly enough, to not get annoying. Her going so hard after Valentino plays beautifully into her obsession with Bugs. What is interesting to me is, that in the Club, she wasn't even aware, that they changed location so she kept cleaning, until someone pointed out, that she was not in the Hotel anymore. Her design suggests, that she was shot. So what happened before her death? One does not become like this, without reason. (Also, she's my second favorite character after Husk)
With how Nifty was the one to finally off Adam, I like to think her gesture of dubbing Alastor “King Roach” was a bit of prophecy because he just barely escaped the battle against Adam with his life, like how roaches are known for their ability to survive anything thrown at them
_Sooo..._ Niffty's "deal", in a word, is *control.* Either she's trying to assert control herself through her obsessive bug-stabbing, cleaning fixation, or even physically hurting herself as a way to divert her thoughts from whatever trauma she has gone through, or she wants a "bad boy" who will tell her what to do to take control _for_ her. ("I *like* being forced!", remember?) All of this to me sounds like at some point in her life she has been in a traumatic situation where she felt helpless, powerless, and out of her depth in dealing with something that happened to her. Growing up in an toxic or abusive family or being severely bullied would be textbook examples. Her obsessive behaviours seem like a coping mechanism to avoid experiencing that feeling of helplessness or inadequacy ever again.
My Lady Wife has so much performance anxiety (aka "stage fright") that she has actually dissociated while speaking in public. We met at a conference through work. She gave a really great presentation- not stiff, not over rehearsed, just pleasant to watch and informative. She acted like she was presenting to a bunch of close friends and family. Afterwards, when he boss complimented her on her presentation, she looked at him blankly and said "What did I say?" She had competely dissociated. But still rocked the presentation.
Call me crazy but I swear on my life that at some point it was mentioned that the exorcist are Adams daughters am I imagining that I swear I heard it somewhere in the show but for the life of me I can't find it
@@rosegirl3220 true ik that was mentioned but It was in my head before the episode where they went to heaven came out , idk I must of heard it in a live stream or something
With regard to Nifty's trust fall, I don't believe the group backed away because they simply "disagreed" with what she said. I think, in this moment, the group was suddenly afraid for their lives because of what she said and, more importantly, the way she said it. There was a palpable amount of murderous intent and I believe the group recoiling was a very natural reaction in this situation.
You'e a brave person, trying to figure out what's going on in Niffty's head! You have stared into the abyss, and the abyss stared back... with one large, reddish pink eye.
I would totally adopt Nifty. Clean house! Happy wife! And "Nifty, if they have a mask on, and they come in the house between midnight and six AM- STAB!" "Even if they have a badge?" "Yes." 😉
I felt such glee when you said Nifty stole part of Val like a serial killer would for their next victim. We can only hope. 😈 Also, that's a good point she never tried to bite anyone else in the show. Only Val.
Did anyone else hear the Mortal Kombat announcer’s voice say “Niffty Wins” when it was shown she stabbed Adam, “Fatality” as she stabbed him repeatedly while laughing like a lunatic, and “Flawless Victory” as she skipped away? In either event I can not wait to check out this video when I get home. Few characters are as lovable and terrifying as that little Gremlin
I feel like since Nifty according to the Fandom website was 22 and died in the 1950s, she probably was a housewife who had a bad boy husband who was violent and/or who did not acknowledge her and what she did around the house and she probably broke one day.
As someone with OCD I couldn't put my finger on why me and Nifty were so alike till I watched this and realized it was due to our similar traits, and her having OCD that resembles mines.
If I'm allowed to make suggestions, I think the cast of Baldur's Gate 3 has a lot to talk about. Astarion's trauma and the abuse he faced, Karlach's trauma and coming to terms with her mortality, Shadowheart's toxic relationship with her religion, Lae'Zel's conflict between her morals and her brutal culture, Gale's toxic relationship with Mystra, Wyll's toxic pact with his patron, The Dark Urge's violent impulses and thoughts. I feel like each and every one of them has a lot to analyze and discuss.
I love how you did your hair. The detail in your costumes is always impressive. I've seen a lot of people think of Niffty as just a one dimensional, maniacal gremlin. But I'm happy to see someone who recognizes her signs of OCD and go into how it affects her. As someone with the disorder myself, I feel seen.
I second this, OCPD here so not exactly the same but I've heard it's more controllable, so I wish especially you and those with OCD the strength to fight through it ❤. Being seen is a great feeling
I really hope you do an analysis on Vaggie and Carmila Carmine, mainly the former because besides Angel, Husk and Sir Pentitious, Vaggie had one of the best character evolutions and developments she went in the show’s first Season from not just being Charlie’s voice of reason and girlfriend but also her protector and it’s mostly noticeable in Episodes 3 and especially 6-8 where she had her moment to shine.
I'm glad you don't script out your videos. You come across as genuine and relatable. Can definitely relate to your potentially inappropriate dark humor. :)
Me too, she's been through so much! I mean you have religious trauma, potentially raised by a narcissist, possible PTSD, trauma, codependency, losing her identity
i have ocd as well and honestly it never even crossed my mind until i watched this video. but knowing what we do about niffty's backstory it's definitely not unfeasible. i don't think any woman could live through the fifties without ending up as some kind of neurotic.
In defense of nobody catching her during the trust falls not only was everyone too freaked out to catch her (even Charlie and Vaggie) but she also quickly jump forward (multiple times) instead of slowly falling backwards. 😂 Her interactions with Alastor are really sweet and may be the only genuine connection he actually has with anyone. Niffty even shows up as an actual daughter like figure for Alastor while he’s trying to pretend to have that connection with Charlie just to get under Lucifer’s skin.
I think you did really well delving into Angel's trauma, but if you did one focusing on his protectiveness and people pleasing (why should Charlie get all the fun?) I would be here for it. He is hands-down my favorite character.
I started thinking that could be the case with her reaction in the "I'm the mess?" scene, it hints that her issues go deeper than just a "crazy random lol" cleaning obsession.
I have ocd (currently in therapy ^^) and I think you explained ocd amazingly! There's a lot of misunderstanding about this theme so I'm always glad when people explain it correctly. Love your videos!
18:30 what i interpreted as a big thing as well, is that nifty says "im THE mess" not A mess. Pretty much her entire purpose is cleaning up messes, as the hotel maid. She sees her value, and her role in helping charlie (authority) and pleasing the other characters, is to remove any mess around them, and that is why shes valuable. Her saying that SHE is the mess, is almost like thinking her presense alone means that everyone around her will always be surrounded by filth or "mess" because of her just being there.
This was such a good analysis! As someone with OCD I love that you pointed out all the different ways it can manifest. I’ve had therapists question my diagnosis because I lean more into the obsessive rather than compulsive side of the disorder. It’s nice to hear someone properly explain it in all its facets.
I relate to this blanking out memories. I can remember barely anything from my teens and childhood. And trauma still wormed it's way into my few memories
*(Warning, rambling ahead.)* As some undiagnosed folk with symptoms worryingly resembling OSDD 1b and disassociates frequently, I too remember everything and nothing. And I'll remember I told a friend "yesterday," if it was yesterday, a hello - then proceed to forget a whole morning, no, _week_ of anything of work or school. I remember things... occasionally! Just not in concrete timeline. Hell, I've forgotten to change my profile from Papyrus to something else, and forgotten to make a profile picture for myself, and forgotten to make a character persona for myself, and forgotten to figure out my own identity, and forgotten my own interests - you get the point. It goes on and on. I do oft forget a thought, but remember the series of things I'm supposed to do before them... _then_ forget to do the thing I'm supposed to do after going on a tangent. The horrors of being a (probably) amnesiac, ADHD, Autistic(?), disassociative, childish, have I said forgetful, and forgetful fellow. I know I described myself as forgetful three times, I forgot other words to describe myself. [Edit mere 30 seconds after I made this; holy crap I forgot how many times I said the word forgot. Holy crap.]
2:52 it’s also probable that her contract with alastor includes not being conscious when on camera. Because she thinks she actually said her lines and she’s fine after the camera turns off
Yeah it's definitely possible because of Vox and Nifty being a loose cannon that rather than risk her accidentally saying something she shouldn't she's just set to go into void-mode
This video is so relatable, I have autism and I tend to talk about things I really like. sometimes I overthink and go deep into the scientific reason behind why something works, I do kinda act like a smart ass but in a way that’s funny and will help me have a longer conversation with my friends. I try not to do it because it might be annoying to people but i feel comfortable with that person I’ll bring out my dry sense of humor.
I work in a Crisis Stabilization Unit and a lot of the people that come through aren't rational adults so calming them down is sometimes literally accomplished with crayons and paper. Sometimes adults just need something simple to decompress from the stresses in daily life. Do something you loved as a child. You may find you still do love it.
Genuinely shocked you managed this long of a video only on Nifty. To me there are so many gaps in her story i just speculate. But i am impressed. The video is great.
@@GeorgiaDow it is a good video! I am happy your fid not fall down the speculation rabbit hole. I am really interested to see is the go anywhere with Nifties character. I think at some point in development she was supposed to be Japanese American giving the show an asian coded character. Don’t know if they will still with that. Either way i do think she much have died as a young adult and that is part of why she looks to adult figures to give her directions and provide for her.
@@GeorgiaDow oh also i would love another video on Angle/ Anthony. I have been in toxic relationship. Actually i am still in the process of getting out of a toxic home situation, and i really relate to his journey. Specially the need to physically move away from your abuser and have places they can’t reach you. I am sure if you make more content on Angle/Anthony i will love lit.
Anyone noticed how Niffty is the only one that Alasator allows to not only touch him, but she also goes on top of his head or shoulder? It's not just she is a female and Alastor does have a softer spot with women. There is something else. Unlike with Husk, Alastor doesn't trip Niffty as a subordinate or someone to talk down to. And you can see that in the final episode, the night before the battle with the angels, when Alastor and Niffty wer talking up on the balcony.
Something that I think can add to this discussion about nifty is her past life and the period she died. She seems to be the woman that tries everything to be the perfect wife. That keeps the house always clean and take care of children, and is extremely dependent of man and authority figures
I'd love the extra video on Angel :D He's such a "protective big brother" type characters, which might be intentional, since even though they have yet to be properly presented, he does have brothers and a sister which, we might have seen in heaven. Food for theorising -w-
Ye OCD definitely seems to be super varied. Personally my OCD prevents me from breathing normally when looking at someone or something I like. Breathing in = good things and breathing out= bad things. So often times I have to change my gaze to a wall or closing my eyes when I have to breath out. Recently it started affecting touch as well
I proclaim I am the first like and first comment on this video and I am proud this has been my number one request for so long nifty is such a weird psychotic character and is my FAVORITE
My OCD manifests as pattern and color recognition that often started as games. Sorting colored pencils and markers helped calm me down until it became a need. Plus my family thought it was funny to mix up my work, so it was a cue that they'd invaded my space.
Hey, it's already here! Niiiice!! Edit: 24:23 That was *sooo* satisfying on the first watchthrough of the show. Heh, and Vaggie's joy. Same. 26:17 Even Fat Nuggets is loving it 27:53 Haha, that was very cute Great video as usual!
I was binging your Hazbin playlist and I thought "It would be cool if she did one of Niffty (she's my favorite) but no one wants to try to figure out that craziness". Not thirty seconds later, I saw this pop up. So psyched!!!
I'd love to see more Angel Dust videos highlighting his caring side. Angel growing to be a better person really is one of the best parts of the show. Alternatively, something covering the Vees and their relationship as I think there's fertile ground for discussion with Vox acting as an enabler for Val, although that may need to wait for Season 2 when we get more footage of them.
One thing worth paying attention to is how significant character design can be, especially when the creator of the show confirms that the form Sinners take has meaning. Their form reflects how they lived, how they died, and there's at least one feature they hate about it. For Niffty, it's not as obvious as with other characters, but she is bug themed: she's small, with those thin and spindly black limbs, she skitters around all the time... Mimzy even outright call her "the little bug". So with that in mind, what does it say about her obsession with getting rid of bugs? Angel obviously struck a nerve when he told her she's the mess. And you've pointed out that the reason she's attracted to bad boys might be because they're the polar opposite of the qualities she herself has and that she might hate in herself. I think there's a part of her hidden behind her exuberance that worries that she's lowly, insignificant, and dirty.
I LOVE NIFTY SHES MY FAV CHARACTER BY FARRR. Shes adorable I want her backstory so bad I’ve seen theories that she was a house wife that went crazy trying to be the perfect wife
My guess would be that Niffty was either sort of brought up to be a housewife (remember, she died at 22 in the fifties), or that she was raised in a socially sheltered and infantilizing way due to some controlling tendency of her parents, while probably having some underlying abnormality with her developmental abilities. Her tiny stature probably represents that infantilization. So it kind of seems she quite thoroughly internalized the ideals taught to her, to be obedient and to do household chores, while being deprived of opportunities to develop more rounded outlets for other aspects of her life, or being too anxious to find those opportunities. So it could be that some of her fixations are ways of compensating for the limited range of behavior she learned, taking joy in killing bugs could be a way for her to feel power to compensate for her submissiveness, projecting fear onto the bugs could be a substitute for social stimulation. Her wanting a "bad boy" is probably also a combination of what she was taught to want, a patriarchal man, with what she wanted, someone who could embody the extreme of traits that she had been denied the ability to develop, rudeness, rebelliousness, respect, etc. While it could just be a joke, the fact that she was so quick to switch from the seemingly submissive feminine role to a dominatrix role at the BDSM dungeon, where she wanted to punish bad boys, could suggest that her fixation with bad boys is not just a straightforward amorous submissive attraction to dominance. It might be more of a expression of some fascination with power, or the proximity thereof, and with punishment, because she lacked power, and because she was probably punished, and wants to punish others as a way to react to and process that. But she's been mentally so boxed in that it's easier to find these traits in others, than it is in herself, or that she needs to be shown an identity she could have (dominatrix) that is so far from beyond the boundaries of what she was taught to fit into, that the boundaries don't really register any more, allowing her to feel paradoxically freer.
Personally, i assumed niftys obsession with “bad boys” was kind of an extreme version of “i can fix him.” Given how she went full dom during that scene where angel took them to that place
For me, Niffty has a few contradictory goals, which she tries to express in different ways so they don’t *seem* as opposed. She wants control, but she also wants to *be* controlled. She wants to directly uphold the established order through her housekeeping, but she also wants to indirectly tear it down by attaching herself to rebellious types. She wants to inflict pain and damage to others, but also to receive it herself.
I'm convinced that with how much she seems to enjoy pain, I think she has like a 0 on the self-protection/preservation instinct Also favorite thing I like about her interaction with Valentino: I think with her obsession with killing bugs- Val is a bug. She wants to kill it. That's what I think, at least 🤣
Nifty has some trait from when I was in elemntary school. The teacher wanted me to do a project for English class and I ceased up. The treacher tried to make things easier for me, but I could sense she was under stress and was close to snapping (not necessarily for any particular reason -- it's just a stressful job) so I stayed frozen in place and eventually she just cracked, lost paitence, and got mad at me. That's was my whole time at first school. I was an odd thing, people tried to help me, their solutions didn't really accomplish anything and really only servived to alienate me even more. Repeat. I'm not saying it was their fault, but it was nevertheless a very disconcerting time for me as a child and I felt supremely unwanted. And the more people tried to psychologize what I was doing, the less happy I was. It never seemed to click for the adults around me that they were setting up a pattern of aversion. I was always magically excluded even against prior agreements, like Nifty when nobody caught her. I can't have been an easy case, but that's how it felt for me. Nifty is like Lucifer before he was thrown out of Heaven: nobody understands what he's doing so they decide there must be something wrong with him and label him a problem child. What's actually going on is that Nifty sees unconscious processess around her that most people aren't privy to and her obsession with bugs is meant to reflect what that looks like to other people, the same as with Lucifer and the ducks. That's why she likes people who watch her roach puppet shows "without booing" and her confession makes people uncomfortable during the trust exercises. (They're not passing judgement on what she does because of her intuitions.) They simply have no frame of reference with which to understand her inner world. These are intuitions as to the subjective factor : th-cam.com/video/bs3HK3pxVAY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uyG4cIyKT4mKe5_O&t=2300 This is also why she gets along with Alastor because I don't like remembering my early childhood. She's a vulnerable spot for me. Notice that Lucifer freezes up the same way she did in front of the camera when Nifty herself confronts him with the line, "I clean." Nifty follows _instincts,_ not rules. The paradox is that we have an instinct to follow instructions. But as soon as instinct conflicts with rules, insinct wins for her and she doesn't do it. It's like with animals and young children. Animals can be trained or will cooperate because it's in their nature, _but they don't even know what a rule is._ Nifty does what alastor says because he's a certified badboy and Nifty does as badboys say. It doesn't occur to her that she's following a rule. Rules are atrefacts of consciousness, whereas Nifty behaves _unconsciously._ But these can be conflated because unconscious behaviour can be highly ordered and orchestrated as though there were a set of rules in place, like the migration patterns of birds, the way fish move in schools, or colonies of ants working as a eusocial organism -- but there are no rules to it. Only intuitions. Nifty can't even differentiate pleasure from pain as readily as other people, which is why she likes it when nobody catches her and why she's into BDSM. She doesn't want to hurt the bugs because she enjoys inflicting pain. She enjoys hurting the bugs because she enjoys inflicting _pleasure._ The sadist wants their partner to enjoy the pain, so they hook up with the masochist. But Nifty is only dimly aware of how the bugs don't enjoy the pain, so she keeps killing them. *She doesn't bear any resentment towards them whatsoever.* The lion doesn't resent the gazelle he eats; he's just hungry. Similarly, Nifty doesn't know the first thing about Valentino. She just attacks him because he's an insect and she assumes he will enjoy it. The blood moteif may be from trauma, but its symbolic significane is the body. The body stands for sensation which is the opposite of intuition/spirit. The personal unconsious of the intuitive type is therefore toned with the cthonic/bodily. All kinds of hypotheses are raised as to why people, especially women, are attracted to so-called "bad men" -- as though men are only attracted to good women! -- but I think it's far more simple than any such notions of the inferior personality seeming capable or charismatic and more that the shadow side of life is more dynamic and generative in general. They affirm and expand life where the "good boys" wisely limit it in the interest of prudence. The differentitated personality is adapted but predictable and stagnant. _Disobedience, in the eyes of any one who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion._ -- Oscar Wilde. Bad boys don't obey. That's the key thing. They eat of the Fruit of The Tree of Knowledge which God said thou shouldst not eat. He expresses his pattern: he follows his instinct. Animals are compared to gods for this reason because they never err from the pattern nature has instilled into them. So man became "as the elohim are" by regaining his instinct and disobeying deontological rules to become an animal that stradles the line between conscious and unconscious. (The cognitive dissonance of the Eden story, however intentional, cannot be overstated.) Nifty dislikes Sir Pentious because he's lame, and too _self-conscious,_ not because he's empathetic. The attraction of "bad boys" should be obvious. What is mysterious is why anyone would be attracted to the functional "well-adjusted" types that society esteems as good. And yet it is naively taken for granted that these are the people men and women _should_ be attracted to. Hence why so many myths and rationalizations are conjured to explain what everyone already understands inutuitivly. It's not that they don't appeal it's rather that they are harder to relate to. The bad boy is very easy to fall for whereas it takes more to develop an appreciation of the differentiated man as well. The good partner speaks to our rationality. The bad partner speaks to our deeper desires, so obviously, pound for pound, he, she, they, etc. wins in any game of attractiveness hands down. The good man needs to be in possession of a unique prize indeed to win such an exchange . . .

I must say I am delighted that my suspicions that Niffty was a combination of OCD and Sadomasochism among other things were accurate. Personally I am curious how Charlie could believe that anyone that Alastor likes is harmless. Phenomenal work as always, if there is going to be more Hazbin Hotel of course there is still Vaggie and I think there could be a short video or two on Carmilla and/or Sera.
I don’t usually comment, but your Hazbin Hotel Therapist series has made my evenings! I’m an aspiring psychotherapist and your videos provide really good insight into psychology and give me the opportunity to look at people from different perspectives (even though they’re cartoon characters, the analytical skills still apply) Thank you for bringing a calm, helpful, and fun splash to my night! Excited for the next upload :D
I believe her putting so much importance in her role as a housekeeper stems from her life as a 1950s housewife before she died. Back then women were expected to be cooking and cleaning baby machines so she couldve carried that stigma with her. That could also explain her obsession with "bad boys" as well
Those effects also set a perfect situation to be a victim of traumatizing experiences without receiving any help, makes sense with the video Ultimately the rules back then being really bad for her might explain why she likes bad boys, rebels, without being able to break rules herself like many who are deeply and forcefully put to submission
She died at 22 and wasn't married from what I remember of her backstory. I get a vibe where she was probably like Caril Ann Fugate, who liked bad boys in the 50s and murdered 11 people with Charles Starkweather. I expect she got shot by the police or a potential victim, hence the bullet hole marks on her white apron
@@samwarren6008 a lot of people make a child like personality to cope with trauma sometimes even without realizing it which could be the case for Nifty

Sometimes cosplayers go over board with makeup and wigs, and this isn't a stab at them, but it's nice when someone is putting themselves into, 'I like this character, I want to be like this character!' I think a big part about Nifty's social awareness is the one two punch of her relationship with Alastor and her status as a sinner.

I thought "Surely, Nifty doesn't have enough screentime to make a video on her. Surely, she is just a one dimensional character with no actual substance to analyze". Boy was I wrong. A 28 minute long video lets gooo
Literally me:
Turns out, we just needed someone competent to make analysis
It's funny how people claim Niffty is 22. She is WAY too childish to be that old.
@@leonarddement3432stuntes mental development is a real thing, I'm 22 and I known people my age who gave not had much mental Growth
I really hope we learn more about Nifty; what did she do when she was alive to get sent to Hell?
What I think about the line "I am - the MESS?", that it had much more profound meaning for Niffty. It wasn't just about her fear of being messy behaving person, but that Angel literally downgraded her to the only thing she absolutely hates - the mess, the literall one, that she takes care about in hotel and etc. Like, not "You are not in control and doing bad things right now", but "You are literally the same as the dirt, that you are so hard trying to get rid off"
Oh goodness- that's so heartbreaking
very well said
i struggle with this a little, but i suspect nifty might have the contamination type of OCD, her obsession with everything being clean might be because she herself wants to be clean, so being told she's a mess loke that when she's been cleaning all along to avoid getting contaminated with the mess must be devastating..
I think part of Alastor's affection for Nifty comes from their shared hobby of serial killing.
@@AnInsideJokeI’d bet nifty either has a chunk of Adam’s hair, outfit or nifty has the mask
To be fair, she might not have any part of adam, considering she might have wanted valentino because he is a moth which is a bug.@@mist5142
Niffty seems to sense 2 things with Valentino:
1. He means harm, and she might unconsciously sense Angel’s distress around him.
2. He’s a moth demon aka a bug. She’s coming after him and everything he loves
(On a side note, seeing another video of Angel being the hero/protective of people would be amazing if you decide to do it)
hahah that is great @shes coming for him and everything he loves
"Oooo... he's a bad bug."
OK but now I think the might go after the other vees just to prolong vals suffering lol
Didn’t she also get lobotomized in this theory?
@@Aceoffailure that’s what some people believe. But my theory goes is that her “bad boy” was her high school sweetheart who she ran away with. Only for the reality to sink in along with heavy denial about how abusive he really is. Till she reached a breaking point and had to “exterminate” the bugs.
Nifty also has a very distinct three red spots on her outfit that may explain how she met her end
They look very suspiciously like bullet wounds
I was thinking straight-up dissociation, but the way she describes it... they kind of sound a lot a alike.
I have a much darker theory for why she freezes anytime someone films her,actually...😬😰
I've done some theater in highschool, so I caught that too.
Nifty didn't know, nor care, who Adam was. she just did what someone she respected told her to. Loved it.
*"Charlie told me to stab, so I did"*
Valentino is a Moth, Nift has the insect issue, so... that's why she is interested
ofc ofc !!! how did i not see that .... fit perfectly
@@GeorgiaDowpossibly but if that’s the connection she made wouldn’t she just get to stabbing
@@Casual_Nerd86 i'm pretty sure it has to do with him being a "bad boy"
I think the fact that he happens to be a bug is kind of 'the joke', but actually isn't what drew her to him, his being a VERY bad boy who hurt her friend, seems more the case here, especially when she went straight to biting him (not her usual method). I think Nifty might have some cannibalistic tendencies like Alastor, which she limits to those who are 'particularly bad'. (Also like Alastor).
I also think she makes voo doo dolls, thus pulling some of Val's fluff for her 'collection'.
😮 now I get it

I'm surprised you didn't talk about her "punish bad boys" line. For someone who instantly disliked Sir Pentious when he didn't turn out to be the bad boy she wanted, yet wanting to be in control to punish them gives you a lot to think about
Probably because it’s too “graphic” to show on TH-cam. Maybe it’s on her longer video on Nebula. She also didn’t mention the “I like to be forced” comment she made to Husk.
To be fair. In kink spaces, "punish" doesn't really mean punish in the same way.

Well this turned tragic
@@InfinityKrompt Well that would mean she didn't really have a safe childhood. So that would track with what Georgia said, and it would make sense why she's still so childlike
huh, that's the first time i've heard of her being japanese-american, where did you hear that from?
Niffty is also one of the only people Alastor really seems to have a bond with. She is the only one he really let’s touch him and he really seems to have some amount of affection toward her which ist toward anyone else.
Rosie too, to a digree
And charlie
The only other person he has a similar degree of affection are Rosie and Mimzy, but I think Alastor has more respect for Rosie and Nifty.
With how Nifty was the one to finally off Adam, I like to think her gesture of dubbing Alastor “King Roach” was a bit of prophecy because he just barely escaped the battle against Adam with his life, like how roaches are known for their ability to survive anything thrown at them
_Sooo..._
Niffty's "deal", in a word, is *control.*
Either she's trying to assert control herself through her obsessive bug-stabbing, cleaning fixation, or even physically hurting herself as a way to divert her thoughts from whatever trauma she has gone through, or she wants a "bad boy" who will tell her what to do to take control _for_ her. ("I *like* being forced!", remember?)
All of this to me sounds like at some point in her life she has been in a traumatic situation where she felt helpless, powerless, and out of her depth in dealing with something that happened to her. Growing up in an toxic or abusive family or being severely bullied would be textbook examples.
Her obsessive behaviours seem like a coping mechanism to avoid experiencing that feeling of helplessness or inadequacy ever again.
Definitely a control thing for Nifty. She's funny and I feel bad for her.

17:55 I think that would be really cool! I would also love to see you touch on cherry’s role as an enabler in Angel’s recovery
ITS OUT ITS OUT ITS OUT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LOONG EHEHEHEHEEHEHEEHEHEHEHE
MY FAVORITE CHAOS DEMON HAS A THERAPY VIDEO!!
Howd u even make a 30 min video on her
yeah funnily i thought it would be a short video also as she doenst have much screen time but ... we'll yeah there is a lot there
Genuinely shocked you managed this long of a video only on Nifty. To me there are so many gaps in her story i just speculate. But i am impressed. The video is great.
Glad you liked it!
The next member of the cast is vaggie im so exited for that episode
Anyone noticed how Niffty is the only one that Alasator allows to not only touch him, but she also goes on top of his head or shoulder? It's not just she is a female and Alastor does have a softer spot with women. There is something else. Unlike with Husk, Alastor doesn't trip Niffty as a subordinate or someone to talk down to. And you can see that in the final episode, the night before the battle with the angels, when Alastor and Niffty wer talking up on the balcony.
I never thought she could do it she actually was able to make a full video on nifty
Something that I think can add to this discussion about nifty is her past life and the period she died. She seems to be the woman that tries everything to be the perfect wife. That keeps the house always clean and take care of children, and is extremely dependent of man and authority figures
I honestly love the try to remake the magic little hair curles👏
I did try = )) thank you for noticing
I'd love the extra video on Angel :D
He's such a "protective big brother" type characters, which might be intentional, since even though they have yet to be properly presented, he does have brothers and a sister which, we might have seen in heaven.
Niffty is the best animated maid ever. Change my mind.
Finally Nifty!!!! I am so excited
My OCD manifests as pattern and color recognition that often started as games. Sorting colored pencils and markers helped calm me down until it became a need. Plus my family thought it was funny to mix up my work, so it was a cue that they'd invaded my space.
Hey, it's already here! Niiiice!!
Edit:
24:23 That was *sooo* satisfying on the first watchthrough of the show. Heh, and Vaggie's joy. Same.
26:17 Even Fat Nuggets is loving it
27:53 Haha, that was very cute
Great video as usual!
I was binging your Hazbin playlist and I thought "It would be cool if she did one of Niffty (she's my favorite) but no one wants to try to figure out that craziness".
Not thirty seconds later, I saw this pop up. So psyched!!!
Honestly I didn’t really expect such a detailed analysis that makes sense, it makes me like Niffty even more!
Unrelated to her psychology I think the idea that she actually somehow owns Alastor's soul is great fun.
Oh, that would be great!!!
Shes adorable I want her backstory so bad I’ve seen theories that she was a house wife that went crazy trying to be the perfect wife
that would fit and her 1950s dress as well
Wow, didn’t know that Nifty had OCD.😲Thank you Georgia!❤️ All of your Hazbin videos are super helpful to know each character’s way of thinking.
Gotta appreciate that you dress up as the characters you're talking about. You're literally putting yourself in their shoes! So cool.
I'm convinced that with how much she seems to enjoy pain, I think she has like a 0 on the self-protection/preservation instinct
Also favorite thing I like about her interaction with Valentino: I think with her obsession with killing bugs- Val is a bug.
These are intuitions as to the subjective factor : th-cam.com/video/bs3HK3pxVAY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uyG4cIyKT4mKe5_O&t=2300
This is also why she gets along with Alastor because I don't like remembering my early childhood. She's a vulnerable spot for me.
Notice that Lucifer freezes up the same way she did in front of the camera when Nifty herself confronts him with the line, "I clean."
Nifty follows _instincts,_ not rules. The paradox is that we have an instinct to follow instructions. But as soon as instinct conflicts with rules, insinct wins for her and she doesn't do it. It's like with animals and young children. Animals can be trained or will cooperate because it's in their nature, _but they don't even know what a rule is._
Nifty does what alastor says because he's a certified badboy and Nifty does as badboys say.
It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion._
-- Oscar Wilde.
(The cognitive dissonance of the Eden story, however intentional, cannot be overstated.)
Nifty dislikes Sir Pentious because he's lame, and too _self-conscious,_ not because he's empathetic.
The good man needs to be in possession of a unique prize indeed to win such an exchange . . .
i love these videos because you really help your audience see that even characters that seemingly appear to be one-dimensional can have more depth than initially perceived
i just realized you curled your ends for this cosplay lmfao i love the dedication
oh, i would LOVE another angel dust video! he's my favorite character *because* of his protective, kind, and nurturing instincts and so few people discuss that. he's so underrated in that sense and i would love to see you talk more on it.
I completly forgot about her "where are your tits" line and wow that delivery is amazing
I’m an aspiring psychotherapist and your videos provide really good insight into psychology and give me the opportunity to look at people from different perspectives (even though they’re cartoon characters, the analytical skills still apply)
Thank you for bringing a calm, helpful, and fun splash to my night! Excited for the next upload :D
I am so happy to hear that. I hope you enjoy the field it is difficult and rewarding as well.
I believe her putting so much importance in her role as a housekeeper stems from her life as a 1950s housewife before she died. Back then women were expected to be cooking and cleaning baby machines so she couldve carried that stigma with her. That could also explain her obsession with "bad boys" as well
Those effects also set a perfect situation to be a victim of traumatizing experiences without receiving any help, makes sense with the video
Ultimately the rules back then being really bad for her might explain why she likes bad boys, rebels, without being able to break rules herself like many who are deeply and forcefully put to submission
I wonder what caused her to be so child like though? Maybe she was a child when she died and it was trauma from watching her mother?
@@samwarren6008 she was 22 when she died. She was a yandere or some other kind of killer, like 50s killer Caril Ann Fugate
@@samwarren6008 a lot of people make a child like personality to cope with trauma sometimes even without realizing it which could be the case for Nifty
I loved all of the Hazbin Hotel character analysis videos! They were amazing! Now all we need is our girl Vaggie and the whole cast will be complete!
I wanted to say I really like your costumes! Sometimes cosplayers go over board with makeup and wigs, and this isn't a stab at them, but it's nice when someone is putting themselves into, 'I like this character, I want to be like this character!' Instead of, 'I like this character, I am this character!'
appreciate this
Would totally love another angel video. He is such a beautifully complex character.
I really like this series and binge watching everything rn. I was wondering if you're going to do one for Vaggie soon.
I love your costumes a lot
WEVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
As someone who has chronic pain due to fibromyalgia, I immediately adored Niffty when she said, "Yay, pain!"
Still makes me cackle every time I hear it. 😂
Omg… this is why Niffty embodies my intrusive thoughts
I NEED another video on Angel. Hes absolutely fascinating.
Hope you’ll do Vaggie next or Cherri Bomb
