  • For the last 15 years, Turner Classic Movies has been holding a film festival in the heart of Hollywood. For their 15th ceremony, they invited me to attend and cover the festival on the channel! This video covers my first two days of the four-day festival, with Part 2 coming soon!

    Congratulations! Video is so fresh. Good selection of movies. Your gift book seems to be be appealng, once your festival rush passes. Would be nice to hear more about the Egyptian because it just reopened. There must be few comments on vlogs. In fact, I would have suggested a short video on it.
    BUT...can't believe you didn't mention the Roosevelt was the venue for the first Academy Award, just when you are posting great stuff about the early Oscars. 😅

      Thank you so much for your continued support! And I know.... I think I briefly mentioned something about it in my next vlog, but not enough for sure. I also don't mention the haunted rooms haha. I want to do more Old Hollywood vlog videos, though, and so maybe I can go back and do a tour or something!

    Way to go, this is awesome! Thanks for your hard work and coverage. Great experience to share. Hey, I had never noticed this, but as you captured the credits for Close Encounters I saw that it said Carl Weathers had a role.

      Yes, he plays one of the cops in the film! It's a very, very minor role. But he's there! And thanks for the kind words; I appreciate it. :)

      He was basically a football player playing roles as an extra by then. "Cop 1 " etc. The outlier was Rocky, when he made the leap. Rocky (76) started shooting after Encounters (77), so it ends up being pretty weird, indeed.

    OMG how fun!! I was really considering going this year, I wish I had. I just found out when it was way too late. Definitely putting it on my calendar for next year.

    What I loved most was to see how much you enjoyed this event. 🙂 I did film festivals and helped organize them decades ago and felt exactly the same.

      @@whenthepicturesgotbigger I was in charge of guests (basically the actors, directors and other crew attending), but saw so much bad stuff. It’s why I stopped doing them. So be careful what you wish for.

      @@marceldamen3016 hahaha fair enough. How did you get a job like that?

      @@whenthepicturesgotbigger As a kid I was a huge fan of the Battlestar Galactica (1978) series. At one point I wondered what had happened to some of the cast and crew, started looking for them online, started chatting with the ones I found, made a website with the interviews and this really picked up. A local event then asked me to invite some of these actors for their convention where I also met agents, managers and a whole string of other actors. This event however went bankrupt during the weekend, the organizers ran off, which was a major disaster I helped solve (mind I was just a volunteer), the actors liked what I did for them and some asked me to be their agent for event bookings. And then smaller events led to bigger events and bigger stars. So I accidentally rolled into it (as an out of control hobby).

    Cool video - how would you compare the Egyptian to the El Capitan and the Chinese Theaters (which I assume you've been to both)?

    • @whenthepicturesgotbigger
      @whenthepicturesgotbigger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I think the Chinese Theater may be my favorite! The Chinese Theater is huge and unlike any other screen I’ve seen; it’s massive. But the Egyptian Theater is maybe the most beautiful, and it’s arguably the best size - not too big or small. El Capitan is probably my least favorite of the three, but honestly all are great.
