From the TCM Classic Film Fest in Hollywood, actress Ann Blyth opens up to THR's Scott Feinberg about her earlier career in radio and starring in feature films.
It is impossible to say anything negative about Ann Blyth. She is so beautiful, elegant and charming in a very natural way! Such a pity (for us) she quit the movies so early in her career. Very few true stars from the Golden Age of cinema still remain with us: Danielle Darrieux, Michèle Morgan, Maureen O'Hara, Micheline Presle, Lauren Bacall, Angela Lansbury, Irene Papas, Emmanuelle Riva, Gina Lollobrigida and Jeanne Moreau. Ann Blyth belongs in this sublime group. Pure class!
Some of these great artists are dead now Lauren Bacall (1924-2014) Maureen O Hara(1920-2015)Michelle Morgan (1920-2016) Danielle Darrieux(1917-2017).Rhonda Fleming(1923-2020). Emmanuelle Riva(1927-2017) Jeanne Moreau(1928-2017) Happily there are still alive Dame Angela Lansbury (1925) Ann Blyth (1928)Jane Powell(1929) Glynnis Johns (1923) Arlene Dahl(1928) Gina Lollobrigida(1927) Micheline Presle(1923) Eve Marie Saint(1924) Shirley Jones Julie Andrews Sophia Loren and others were born after 1930
I never liked Ann and it was because of Mildred Pierce. I saw some old black & white photos of her and this beautiful music playing in the background and I fell in love with her. Beautiful, graceful lady.
She's one of the few who has aged very well. She still has that beautiful young smile. She's had a great career, but I'm sure she's most proud of her five children. That's her greatest joy.
I have watched Mildred Pierce so many times and identified Anne Blyth always with the role of Veda in which she was so excellent as the awful selfish daughter. It is great to see this interview and realise that there is so much more to her career. I will now enjoy catching up on these other movies, so thank you for posting. It is fantastic to see how natural and charming she is in this interview and looking beautiful even with so many years having passed. Very inspiring!
Ann Blyth! Oh my goooosh!!! How wonderful is this?! Such a huge fan of the old Black and Whites! She is still gorgeous! I always thought she had such a beautiful voice and was so uniquely stunning! Thanks for posting!
Miss Blyth is 86 now and she still looks gorgeous and youthful, she played a role in Twilight Zone where she never aged, how truthful this has come to be because she hasn't!!!!!!!
Still beautiful and graceful. Its so nice to see that the thief (time) was not able to rob her of her outstanding beauty. At 85 she is still a beautiful woman.
I love to hate her in Mildred Pierce - she owned that role. It's such a treat to see her as the kind, charming woman she actually is in real life and to hear her anecdotes. :)
I knew a remarkable lady named Dorothy Barrett who was an actress and taught dance for msny decades. She told me that Joan Crawford was wonderfully kind to her and bought the piano she needed when Ms. Barrett was setting up her dance studio. Ms. Barrett lived to be 101 and was very well-known in the Los Angeles area. She taught scores of children and young adults and left a very positive outlook on many people. ❤
After just discovering Mildred Pierce on M! I fell head over heels 4 Ann Blythe. I didn't realize she was in hostess food TV commercials. I love u A.B.🎉
Amazing lady, and such an incredible Actress & Singer The divine Ann Blyth She has made me so very happy watching a lot of her films as a child And I still watch them to this day My mother would call me down from my room every weekend to watch classic movie’s, musical’s , she would tell me who the stars were, who they were married too etc Such happy memories The one I watched the most including today was Our very own Bawled my eyes out as usual Thankyou Ann For bringing so much joy ❤
A gracious, classy lady born in '28--looking naturally pretty without much or any plastic surgeries like her contemporaries who are still alive-at least 80. Now she is 85 last Aug. 2013 and is still able to sing well-not long ago on an interview i was surprised how well she sang in soprano, so smoothly for a woman of her age. Ann is true class.
I met Ann blyth in Dublin with her cousin Thereasa Lynch, in the 50s , I remember sitting on her lap , what a wonderful lady, and such talent ,we all loved her……..
After watching her all-time classic melodrama movie "Mildred Pierce" I immediately learned she was the only surviving cast up to this day of March 25,2019 at 90 years of age! She's still beautifully gorgeous and amazing talent and woman she is! When Veda slapped her mom after she tore up the $10,000 check to her name, that was the turning point of Miss Ann as her incredibly sinister act in the movies. So sad she quit showbusiness too early. More power and long live Ms. Ann Blyth. God bless you!
What a beautiful lady. I just saw an episode of Wagon Train where she sang a song called “Tomorrow”, it was like an angel singing. It was so captivating.
Isn’t that a wonderful episode?! The Jenny Tannen Story. She was mesmerizing in that episode! And, it’s obvious how much Ward Bond respected and liked her. It was wonderful hearing her sing so much in the episode!
I'm so dumbfounded that there are so few visits, and/or comments on this beautiful piece featuring incredible Ann Blyth! Can't guarantee too many, but I suspect there'll be many more visits soon! I adore her!
Utterly charming! Intelligent, sweet, sensitive, generous - quite unlike Veda Pierce. I have a new respect for her now. Sorry she left the movies so young.
When she left movies they weren't really making the great movies that they had in her prime. But she did some good TV work you should check out. A couple good Quincy M.E.'s and a superb Murder She Wrote where she plays a woman who thinks she's losing her mind only to find out that her near and dear are trying to send her off the edge.
One of the great supporting actor performances in movie history was Blyth's Veda in "Mildred Pierce." The highlight was when she slapped that haymaker on Joan Crawford, a woman Blyth really liked. You could see the tears welling up in her eyes in that closeup. She hated to do that.
But I read it was that slap that almost won her an Oscar. I've not seen this classic movie but I'm pretty sure her welling tears were expressing the conflict the character she plays in the movie felt inside. It's called great acting
So cute @1350 when asked if standing on an apple crate took away from the appeal of kissing famous leading men of the era, her response, "oh, not at all... (her eyes widen) not at aaallllllll." So sweet!
I love her very much...... Classic Lady .. Very charming ...... those were the days of the beauty ............. look for our days in 2014............. there is no beauty never ... girls girls girls!!!!!!! Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mammamiaaaaaaaaaaaaa
OMG! Ann Blyth, one of the great ones! All the great female movie actors of Hollywood's golden age, all had their own distinct and unique personality; except for her role in Mildred Pierce as a selfish girl, on screen AB projected a sweet, gentle and sensitive nature, part of which was her voice
Just watched One minute to Zero with Ann & Robert Mitchum 1952 And saw that Beautiful young woman - Never heard of her up until this afternoon ! Still Beautiful !
Like the Queen of the Nile she played on "The Twilight Zone," Ann Blyth is timeless. But for me, she will always be the pretty little mermaid in, "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid." If you haven't seen this classic, do yourself a huge favor and watch it. You'll fall in love like I did.
Ann, I watched 'Rose Marie' the other evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really loved you in 'I'll Never Forget You' where you are so stunningly beautiful. I couldn't find an email for you so I'll just send you the congrats here! You are so beautiful!
Fom Argentina: I LOVE Ann Blyth !!!!- One of my "top ten" is "Mildred Pierce": a tour de force role for young Ann: she steals the film & much deserved an Oscar- Sadly she loose the Award, but she is still with us, so : "Hey Ann !! : You ARE the winner !!!!! "-
They were in separate categories, so you don't have to begrudge Joan her deserving win. The other nominees for Supporting Actress were: Eva Arden in MILDRED PIERCE, Angela Lansbury in THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, Joan Lorring in THE CORN IS GREEN, and winner Ann Revere in NATIONAL VELVET.

Clara Bow was an icon too!
@@Mandanextdoor yeah but she’s dead or I thought she was. Shirley Jones is still with us.

So well said and so well put !! :-)
She was so beautiful then! And she's even more of a beauty now. So very graceful! And that smile..lovely....STILL!!!!💐🎶🤗
Mildred Pierce is one of my all time favorite Joan Crawford movies. To this day, Ann Blyth is still a beautiful and graceful woman.
I never liked Ann and it was because of Mildred Pierce. I saw some old black & white photos of her and this beautiful music playing in the background and I fell in love with her. Beautiful, graceful lady.
What a wonderful and graceful lady. I'm glad she's still with us.
Ann Blyth is so beautiful. Her Veda is iconic too. Never to be replicated.
She's one of the few who has aged very well. She still has that beautiful young smile. She's had a great career, but I'm sure she's most proud of her five children. That's her greatest joy.
Ann never felt the need to have plastic surgery. She aged graceful ly instead.

Man what a class act. Great 2 see an actress who is not "on" but one who just exudes charm poise and class.
Shes just a BEAUTIFUL LADY inside and out. ❤❤❤❤
Miss Blyth is 86 now and she still looks gorgeous and youthful, she played a role in Twilight Zone where she never aged, how truthful this has come to be because she hasn't!!!!!!!
Mike Hudson I saw that! She was beautiful!!!
No, she's 89
Lol
For 86, she looks like in her 60s, that’s impressive
Interesting I wonder if she's alive at 90. I'll have to check it out.. I always liked her.. she looks like she was a genuinely sweet lady.
What a lovely person. Nothing like Veda!
Still beautiful and graceful. Its so nice to see that the thief (time) was not able to rob her of her outstanding beauty. At 85 she is still a beautiful woman.
What a lovely lady. I always knew she was and her voice is as beautiful as her face! God bless you Ann.
The Twlight Zone was correct she really is the queen of the nile. She is now 94 years old beautiful lady.
Also, Kevin McCarthy, who played the title character in the episode titled Long Live Walter Jameson, lived to be 96.
Love how she immediately dismisses the cliches perpetuated about Joan. Even more respect for this great lady.
I love to hate her in Mildred Pierce - she owned that role. It's such a treat to see her as the kind, charming woman she actually is in real life and to hear her anecdotes. :)
Should have won best supporting AA for the role of Veda: for such a sweet soul that she obviously was, it was a magnificent performance!
Definitely should of won she owned that role
She's SO beautiful!! Timeless beauty! :-)
It just dawned on me after over 40 years why I liked her so much. My closest friend in high school looked exactly like her.
I just saw her in "I'll Never Forget You." She was amazing. I'm glad she has the same radiant beauty over 50 years later.
After just discovering Mildred Pierce on M! I fell head over heels 4 Ann Blythe. I didn't realize she was in hostess food TV commercials. I love u A.B.🎉
I remember her in the hostess commercials!
How lovely she was. Not any negative words to speak of.
Absolutely loved her in Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid and everything else she did. Wonderful lady!
Happy 90th Birthday Ann Blyth

She’s 93 now. She has not made in appearance since 2013
I've just watched her movie, "I'll never forget you". And I've become an instant fan. She's a classic beauty.

Still so beautiful and elegant. Love her work..very touching at the end x
Even in her 80s she still looks good.
She looks amazing.
She's had a wonderful face lift and probably wearing a wig/hairpiece.
Oh my, what a classy lady. A true lady, I miss woman like that.
Jules Love now a lot of women confuse trashy with sexy.
Mildred pierce is a masterpiece I watched the movie last night

So much class, great honesty.
A lustrous voice. Yet on screen she could portray an enormous range of characters.
She’s still gorgeous and has the most stunning smile 😍
she's so lovely!
She is!
Ann Blyth is one of my very favorite classic movie actresses. Thank you for posting this.

Veda is a masterpiece. This woman made an Oscar performance from Joan. I love her. Lanza WOW beautiful!

Brilliant performance in all your work.
A really good interview
I wish everyone in the World was that nice.
She looks very good for her age...
for any age! lol
Such a relief to hear her repeatedly demonstrate her affection for and respect for JC, who's been so unfairly maligned time and again.
So cute @1350 when asked if standing on an apple crate took away from the appeal of kissing famous leading men of the era, her response, "oh, not at all... (her eyes widen) not at aaallllllll." So sweet!
Happy 95th birthday, Ann Blyth!
I don't think I can look at any footage of Ann Blyth in the 40s without hearing "MY MOTHER! A WAITRESS!!!"
I love her very much...... Classic Lady .. Very charming ...... those were the days of the

My favorite movie of hers is Sally and Saint Anne. Original story and very uplifting 💕
Beautiful lady , inside and out !
THIS lady still looks so gorgeous. She was most memorable in Mildred Pierce
Epic as Cleopatra in the original THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
A beautiful and classy and talented lady with a magnificent singing voice and a sweet personality.
i remember her playing opposite Mario lanza in the great Caruso funny nobody mentioning it on here i think the biggest thing she did !
She epitomizes the expression "a classy lady" ......wow.
Such a classic beauty ! And as sweet a person as can be.
Beautiful Lady and interview.
Ann Blythe made that movie, why she didn't win an Oscar as supporting actress, I'll never know.
