  • Criterion, a company which focuses on celebrating classic and important movies, just released a new feature of their streaming service: Criterion 24/7.
    A separate part of the Criterion Channel, Criterion 24/7 is a round-the-clock channel that shows nothing but Criterion movies. I began to think, could somebody ACTUALLY watch Criterion 24/7 for 24 hours straight?
    Well, I tried. And it wasn’t easy. This is my vlog documenting this new challenge, “Watching Criterion for 24 Hours Straight.”

    Great video! TCM does their summer of stars in august and I think they do 24 hours each day of the month dedicated to a different film star. I think picking one of those days you’d want to do a 24 hour marathon of would make a great watch and also unique opportunity to basically discuss someone’s entire career. Looking forward to what comes next. One of my favorite channels and I really enjoy the Oscar breakdown videos

    This was amazing!! Such a great idea for a marathon! You had me convinced to do it, and then you talked me out of it 😂 I think I would do a 24-hour marathon of TCM. That way it’s still random content, but there are the occasional commercial breaks. Either that or I’d do the criterion channel like you, but make some sort of rule that if I’ve seen the movie before, I can sleep during it. Then again, if my lineup was like yours I would’ve been watching every movie 😂 again, great video! And thank you for the shout out!!

      Haha thank you, that means a lot! I was serious when I said that throughout high school and college I watched movie marathons like yours and did them afterwards, oftentimes using the same criteria as you did 😊 So I’m very, very happy that you liked this video!! Also yeah both of your variations on this challenge are good suggestions - I think I could definitely do a TCM marathon next. And I’ll do more! This was a lot of fun 😁

      @@whenthepicturesgotbiggermeans a lot man!! It’s so cool to hear that the same criteria was used and furthermore that I wasn’t the only one suffering 😂

    As usual, great idea and video. Good format for the insertion, a clear conclusion, tiers wrap up...but i always have my couple of suggestions.
    You can edit out some "Im tired" bits. It's the part we know 😅 and...you should take one longer break or a couple of shorter naps. It will help physical shape and appreciation. Marathon runners go for 2 hours and get water stops. If you go for 24, you need rest. Plus, we are not with you during the break, so for us it doesnt matter. It's no bore. You cant stop the channel but just go for the next one.
    Congratulations!!! I would only have endured Veil and Sisters.

      I guess I should have consulted with you in advance and learned about those built-in break opportunities! Oh well, live and learn.

    Good job! Back in the day I’d binge watch every season of the “24” series as soon as it came out on DVD. Of course that was “only” 24x 50 minutes (as the commercial cuts made up for the rest of the hour), but it comes close to watching film 24 hours. I never got bored or tired of it, but I don’t think I could do the same with random Criterion films. Do like the idea though. As said: well done!

      Hi Marcel, always nice to get your feedback 😊 That sounds like a really challenging marathon too lol, but just like with the end of this one I’m sure it’s super satisfying at the end of it! Thanks for the kind words :)

    I know this isn’t at the video at hand but I recently watched Boogie Nights from PTA and it was incredible film but one actor in that film that I think is super underrated John C. Riley because he was great in that and he was Magnolia (1999) and yet every time I bring him up in conversation it’s always Step Brothers and Wreck it Ralph that get brought first which is frustrating because he has amazing range in roles he play and yet people don’t acknowledge it.

      @whenthepicturesgotbigger  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah that’s true, he’s got a lot more range than people recognize I feel. Even in comedies his performances are pretty inspired imo.

      @@whenthepicturesgotbigger He can be funny because while not my favorite Judd Apatow film I did enjoy his performance in Walk Hard but I can’t not stand films like Step Brothers throughout the whole film it’s literally one joke of 40 year olds acting children it’s funny for 5 minutes but it gets old quick I seriously have no idea why the film is so beloved.

    Just curious but are any films that you would want to see added to the Criterion Collection in the future.

    • @whenthepicturesgotbigger
      @whenthepicturesgotbigger  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Elaine May should have more films in the collection besides Mikey and Nicky! Maybe the Heartbreak Kid

    • @maxtubb8560

      @@whenthepicturesgotbigger Elaine May movies would be cool but as for me I have too many to pick but if there one types of movies that Criterion is lacking is Animated films because ever since Pixar’s Wall.E was added I’ve thinking about what are some other great animated films that could join Criterion so I thought of a couple they would fit.
      For Disney I was thinking of Fantasia (1940) and Bambi (1942) because I would consider Fantasia to be one of Disney’s most artful movies because of how the movie combines classical music with animation and as for Bambi I think that’s also a artful movie because of the beautiful watercolor backgrounds and the story does go to dark places and it touches on some deep themes about man vs. nature.
      Some Satoshi Kon films would be neat like Perfect Blue and Paprika would be neat especially Perfect Blue since that film is pretty hard to find on physical media so it being added to Criterion would be very convient.
      Pixar films like Ratatouille, Up and Soul and maybe Inside Out would be good additions though I’m not sure if Pixar’s other films would fit in Criterion?

      Oh yeah, animated movies are great ideas. There’s definitely too few of those. I’d ditto you with Satoshi Kon, and I’d also like some Ghibli - perhaps something a little less appreciated like Grave of the Fireflies. Some classic Disney like Fantasia or Pixar masterpieces like Ratatouille are also great picks!
