I bought a Mazda2 Hybrid a month ago and couldn't be happier with this car. I have owned 7-8 cars in my life, but this is definitely the best. I don't understand why people find it somehow negative that it was made in cooperation with Toyota. Big car brands have been cooperating with each other for decades. It's nothing new, but really makes sense. I really like this video!❤
Great review! I've been waiting for someone to do this comparison. Thank you! I prefer the Mazda Mazda 2... Just an FYI - If you add the armrest you wouldn't be constantly knocking the knob! I think it's £250, but half that if you can fit it yourself. 😊
I have a 2020 Mazda2 (the Mazda one), and over the last 5000 miles I’ve got 58mpg (mixed driving (with a bit of spirited driving every now and then). The gearbox and handling are so fun! I’m convinced this car is the biggest secret in the industry 😂
@@jdmguy44 probably not. I'm not afraid to let the remap done by a well known garage, because they have the name to lose. Even brand new cars. Never had any mechanical issue with any car after some 1 million miles. My '3' is done by BBRGTI.
I've got the Mazda 2 (real Mazda 2). 2018 Sport Black Plus version. Great car, genuinely fun to drive yet refined enough on a motorway cruise. Great real world economy (even when compared to the new Toyota version). 100% reliability. Nothing been done outside standard servicing. It also looks great with standard body styling kit. I personally prefer the looks of the pre face lift car but I realise that's subjective. That said if you want a full hybrid then Toyota have the technology nailed. My Dad has a Toyota hybrid.
Cool review. Had been wondering about these two. I have the Yaris Yaris LOL. Love a CVT! These are all amazing cars and I don’t understand why the market is flooded with SUVs when superminis are perfect for most purposes.
Fashion statements unfortunately. In the UK its full of attention seekers. A bigger, higher up car makes them think they are superior to everyone else. Totally pathetic.
I like the Toyota-copy hybrid, but when I drove one last year, the back doors felt like they were made out of cardboard. Very economical though. The headroom issue is the same as in my Ioniq hybrid -- it's down to aerodynamics typically a feature of these HEVs - oh, and eco tyres do make a wee bit more noise.
im canadian so im not familiar with what the consumer reports equivalent would be in ireland. i drive a scion ia aka mazda 2 sedan here and its one of the best. the other good one used to be honda fit. theyre just average for a lot of things, but theyre reliable and mazda 2 is sporty, fit used to be sportier. the toyota yaris hatch used to be a toyota but in 2020 it turned into a mazda 2. anyways the old yaris hatch was #3 and not actually recommended. i remember the seats being uncomfy on it. the scion ia / mazda 2 had a few better mpg than every other 4 cylinder for its time.
I think it was wrong of Mazda not to give their version of the Yaris its own name, for example as a suggestion they could have called the car a Mazda 1500! It is obvious that Mazda want to continue and update their own version of the Mazda 2 which just creates confusion. in my opinion all the cars in the Mazda range are excellent for build quality and engineering.
Why anybody would buy the Mazda 2 hybrid with 3 years warranty when you can buy the Toyota Yaris hybrid which has an extended 10 year warranty subject to servicing by toyota.
In the Netherlands 6 weekse delivery time ex factory at France. Six year garanty or 200.000 km . 8 years on the hybride battery. And 10 year extended garanty via dealer.
Sound's like more of an issue with driving ability. Have owned various bigger more powerful cars over the years, but I get in my Mazda 2 and make it go very quickly, be that away from the lights or overtaking! Definitely not underpowered and the 0-60 figures back that up.
Or better yet, buy an MG3 Hybrid with a 10 year warranty (service is not locked to MG service centres). And have much better performance than a Yaris..
do like mazda 2 but don't really want a big engine, my 1.2 i20 only 12-14bhp less but only 1045kg and nearly 1.1 with tank fuel so it performs not bad for it size. if uk follow france with weight tax this car may be slightly over that 1600kg it 10 euro for every kg over or 1800kg its 20 euro every kg over that sound like it can get quite costly so smaller engine slightly less power but lighter i feel would been a better option, think i dis like the button start up, whats wrong with the key to start it. so really two things engine size adds weight for not really a lot extra compared what i drive now and key less start everything else i do like. i am looking for a very long term car hopefully over the next 20 years, if i get family i get a 2nd car but still keep my next car. atm got my eye the 2015 shape new i20 it has every thing i want in my next car don't want to be gadgets just more to fail, don't have sat nav but happy to still use phone but every thing else im after it has, good looking car, reliable engine, mines been very good for last 4 years and not a crazy cost. but i have looked in to the mazda 2 and quite like them just a few things not to sure on esp if it a car for a very long time i might get very costly
What’s wrong with the engine size? There’s a common misconception that having a larger engine is less efficient. Looking at real-world efficiency stats from the UK, the 1.2 i20 gets 45-48mpg, whereas the 1.5 Mazda 2 gets 51-53mpg
You can say the same about the Toyota Yaris Sedan, which is a rebadged Mazda 2 Sedan. These two aren't nearly the only examples of platform sharing (which is just common sense to cut production costs). A lot of brands work together and do the same. ;)
Almost all of the Mazda 2 reviews I've seen have been by 6 feet and above people, complaining about leg room. Please put average height people in them.

I drive a Mazda with that button for 7 years, never touched it by accident.
You can remap the old one to 130HP.
Same. Who remaps. Mazda dealer?

The kerb weight of the mild hybrid version is around 1050-1100kg ,you commented on it being 1500?
Sorry, weight given on the spec sheet was 1615kg, but I should have said ‘gross vehicle weight’

@@oddities-whatnottotally agree. So unpractical, everyone is such a moron in the UK. I would much prefer a small car as I can park it anywhere!

Thanks for a great review. Were those seats in th hybrid 2 comfortable ?
Make sure it's drive your in b mode witch forces the engine to stay on for increased engine breaking for extreme long down hills

Availability. The new toyota yaris i ordered is not meant to arrive until sept!
@@melvaughn so you’ll give up 7 years of warranty, because you can’t wait 5 month?
No words left lol.
They may have a good relationship with their Mazda dealer who is more local to them.

Two hands on steering wheel and you wouldn't keep hitting buttons!
would like you to try the new suzuki swift for a comparison
Hope to be driving that soon - stay tuned for a review!
Mazda 2 hybrid , but this is Toyota Yaris I ❤that 😂😂😂
Obviously the main difference is one is a three cylinder, the other has four cylinders. Different character and dynamic.
Had a Mazda 2 and hated it. Only had it 4 months. Under powered and it was supposed to be a sports version! Very debatable as to sporty!
Really, get outta here!! 😂

That’s not a mazda, that’s a toyota yaris 😂😂😂

That is the new revised Mazda 2 Hybrid now not exactly same as the Toyota. Just saying.
I don't think it weighs 1500kg!!!!
