I love my Mazda2. The infotainment is super simple but really useful and the jog wheel / buttons near the handbrake are brilliant. You can access everything easily without looking.

Thank you for providing the review for the Mazda 2. And this is the car that I want! Premium interior quality with great economy! I don't need that power as long as a turbo would burn more fuel and cause more problems in long term. Simplicity is king! Definitely would be one of my car in the future.

Highly underrated car, at least where I live. In my opinion, no other car in segment comes close in style and cabin design. Manual gear stick feels superb just like any other Mazda, just love that thing.

You need to drive the Mazda 2 for much longer and get used to the characteristics of the sweet 1.5L normally aspirated engine that loves to rev. The car is deceptively quick and great fun to drive - once you are familiar with it. I have the 90ps pre facelift Mazda 2 purchased last year, and the things that interest me on the facelift are the better headlights, improved seats and improved sound proofing. I always have the infotainment screen switched off (yes, no phones and no music for me). Japanese car, made in Japan. Good stuff.

What an insanely good review, and thank you so much! I am desperately researching cars and am stuck on Mazda, but have not considered the Mazda2 yet at all - not until I stumbled across your review. This may just be the perfect car...I couldn't care less about the infotainment, so long as I have bluetooth and decent sound, and I live in Norway so you can't drive fast on the roads here anyway. Fuel costs a fortune here and there is a lot of talk about increasing tax and other "fines" on Co2 emitting cars, so fuel efficiency is crucial!

I have a Mazda 2 Sport Nav 90 and I can report that it is a very good drive, the speakers are more than adequate, I can say gear change is excellent, rev the car to get the most out of it, it's surprisingly quick 0 to 60, it's very agile around corners, it's all surprising as it's only 90 bhp but the car is very lightweight and has a 1.5 engine. Fuel consumption is good. It looks superb for look. All round it gets top marks. Certainly give it a test drive if anyone is wondering.

Mate, fantastic review. I am a petrol head and watch a lot of reviews on youtube. I really enjoyed your enthusiasm, even though this is just a Mazda2.The reason I recognised that enthusiasm, is that your review was spot on. We just bought one of these for my sister, 2020 20 plate collected 1st March. We only got the 75 bhp manual. Wow what a nice car. Sure its not blistering performance like my S3 however the gearbox, steering and mild hybrid are great. Because we got the SE-L we have neither the heads up display nor the touch screen. But the basic SE-L ironically comes with an amazing Bose inspired 6 speaker sound system, Bluetooth and CD. Its a nice little monochrome display which is just perfect. You even get cruise control as standard. And what a stonking deal we got, so we got £3750 scrapage on an old Audi A3! We also got part exchange on a Mazda3 2.2D Sport, which lately was nothing but trouble, and had ULEZ and more expensive parking on ringo. Also the 75bhp SE-L is £130 road tax as appose to £145!I have had BMWs, Audis, Celicas and Lexus but I'll be honest I still like borrowing this off my sister, there is a real enjoyment to driving it.

13:30 Thanks for showing these assembly problems. I noticed them on my Mazda 2 from 2017. I spoke about that issues on a Mazda 2 forum and I have to say that most of the Mazda 2 owners didn’t notice these problems.
There is also the same kind of problem with the interior of the doors in 2017. On this version, the interior of the doors looks visually more solid, it may be possible that Mazda has solved this issue on the doors.

Thanks. What you say makes sense and mostly matches what I have experienced. I have a 2016 MY 2 and driven it 76,000 km. It is outstandingly economical with 4.5 lt/100km over that period. True. Mostly motorway driving. It has adequate go for the City and cruising on highway. It's gear indicator always tells me to grab 6th at 60 kph, but zero pickup at that speed... I will say it is not so bad with revs > 4500 on board for pickup. It is a 1.5lt NA, so never going to be a rocket ship. I like its nimble handling, and efficiency.
No issues with the car in ownership period.

I am actually decided to brought the Mazda 2 in 2016 after I watched your review. Now I own for 4 years and done about 82,000 km on the clock. The things I don't agree with you are the seat and infotainment system.
The seat is too small for me (I'm 177 cm tall) and it hurting my back.
The infotainment is very useful when you hacked the system.
My car is automatic transmission, it not the best transmission but it is better than CVT.
    Great review as always :D

I only use the MZD Connect (infotairment system) for navigation. So, yes it is a pretty old and cheap system, but it works well. And you don’t have air conditioning on this system or even more functionalities... As the new Golf for instance. Or the Tesla Model 3 which is an iPad car.

Question: Around 9:45 Brian is talking about the build quality based on the sound. But is it really fair to talk about the build based on just sound? How do we know the manufacturers didn't just do some engineering to get the satisfying sound? I know for a fact that they did this in the past. Makes sense that they are still doing it...

At 50 km/h, the automatic gearbox is at 6th. So, I’m a bit suprised that you say you can’t use the 6th under 110-120 km/h.
Regarding the acceleration, it’s pretty good for 90hp (at least on 2017 version). Sure that a Clio (130hp), a 208 (130hp) or a Fiesta (140hp) are more polyvalent, but it is not the same price. At my opinion, the 2.0 litre 120 hp is missing on the Mazda 2.

23,000 euro? Looks like a 13,000 $USD car, tops. In the US, you can get a nice 3 year old Volvo S60 with 250hp and full warranty by Volvo for 19k USD (17k euro). A nicer, safer, better driving car that includes a very nice warranty.
Mazda used to make some nice affordable cars, but now their cars are priced WAY too high. I think their sales will tank unless dealers are allowed to give massive discounts.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette.
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

Well, I bought the new Mazda 2 instead of the new opel corsa. Not only the drive experience was nicer than the corsa but also the corsa with the same amount of options as the Mazda that I chose (okinami) was almost 4500€ more expensive than the Mazda. So I don't think that they are cheaper if you want some options on the car. Yes, if you are fine with the baseline model the corsa is cheaper, but if you want just a little bit of comfort options the Mazda is cheaper.

Dude, just because a car reviewer did not say what YOU wanted to hear does not mean they are being paid. Don't you know that people can have differing authentic opinions from you? Stop being such a spoilt brat. You should be thanking Mazda for offering so much luxury-like technology and design for such a low price, because you are not going to get anything better with your salary.
