Just made this recipe yesterday. Used milk and vinegar for the buttermilk like she suggested, and they biscuits turned out great !! The best I've made so far ❤
My grandfather used to make homemade biscuits and gravy every morning all us kids would stay the night. He never gave anyone a recipe, but this is the closest thing I've seen to what his biscuits looked like, he just pushed his down a bit thinner. The fluffiest on the inside, with still the crunchiest outside. Thank you for this
I just made your recipe, Donna. My family says that they are the best biscuits they’ve ever eaten. The sticky dough, trifold with floured hands technique is the key, I think. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
@@CookingWithDonna I’m back for another bake along with you this morning. I had the last biscuit of my first batch with my homemade chicken vegetable soup last night…and it was so good, I had to make a fresh batch this morning to have with leftovers.
I haven't had a decent biscuit since 1996 right before my sweet 86 year old grandmother passed away. She made a mess of biscuits for me about 2 months before she got sick. She tried to tell how she made her biscuits. She never measured a thing. She would say that she used a "smidgen of this and a bit of that. I honestly think that your way is the same as hers. I'm going to make these this evening. We have a convection oven and it may not be quite big enough to move around. But it bakes so good. I will need to just watch them.
Hello DARRIN ..Grandmas cooking we all seem to hold dear to our hearts nothing better...I hope they turn out to your liking and I appreciate you watching ❤️
Hi Donna. I just made these biscuits for breakfast and they were delicious. Little clean up. They are in a large bowl with a towel awaiting an afternoon ham and cheese sandwich. Thank you for sharing some of your cooking knowledge.
Thank you so much for the tips in this video! I never thought about why you shouldn't twist your cup when cutting the biscuits AND never thought about how the climb when their are close to each other.😊😊
Omg, I have been struggling so hard to perfect the art of biscuit making and u have definitely shown me where I am making my mistakes today. Thk u so much ❤ I simply had to come back and update my comment! I tried your biscuits this weekend for biscuits and sausage gravy and wow, just wow! These biscuits r some of the best I have ever had! And, for once, thks to ur tips they turned out light, fluff and layer after layer of delight! You have officially helped me master biscuits!
Now "THIS" is the biscuits recipe I've been looking for!! 😁😁😁 I have looked at no less than 15 biscuits videos on YT and NONE of the end products looked like the biscuit I wanted😩. Thank you, not only for this upload and recipe but, your knowledge and exact instructions! 🤗😍🤗
For some reason, I've been watching biscuit videos the last couple of days. Yours BY FAR, look the best. Yummy!! Also, you're the only one I've seen using a pastry cutter/mixer. I'm sure it helped you get all the lard mixed up with the flour mixture really well. Nice work!
I use lard also that's what my mom used, tried butter and Crisco don't work like the lard.they up grades the lard to make it healthier, not like the real stuff
I came across this video after trying somebody else's recipe. They came out really really good but I saw that you used popcorn butter salt and I immediately knew that mine would taste a whole lot better with the popcorn salt. I can't wait to try it. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this. This is how my mom made them. She would make the dough at night and we would wake to the smell of freshly baked biscuits and the smell of Maxwell house coffee. I’m going to try this. Thank you.
Made these and they’re incredible! Wish I could get them tall like yours though. Not sure what I did wrong. Everything was cold when I made them up. I’m trying again tonight!!!
Update....I absolutely nailed it tonight!!! Got a tip to cut the biscuits out then put them in the freezer for 15 minutes. It’s supposed to help the biscuits get nice and tall. Worked like a charm!! Thank you for this video!!!!!

And who would have thought that butter and lard are actually better for you than margarine and shortening. I recently found this out. Lard, once the staple of most homes in America, suffered mainly due to a smear campaign from the makers of Crisco. To be fair though. Pure lard is better. The Armor and White brands seen in supermarkets is hydrogenated, which makes it little, if any better than vegetable shortening.
I’ve been playing around with making biscuits, daily for the past week or so. Strictly been using self rising flour and whole buttermilk but experimenting with lard, butter and Crisco. Can´t beat lard, and butter for biscuits and pie. Cast iron skillet and that does it. Thank you.
Thank you and I so agree❤️
Can I use self-rising flour?
You can use self rising flour but the rise will not be the same you can definitely add a bit more baking powder hope this helps❤️
We always have 2% milk but if I don’t have whole milk, could I mix cream and milk and add vinegar to it to make buttermilk?
A splash of cream with the 2% milk should be fine❤️

I find baking powder adds a bitter taste and so I think granny tossed in some baking soda to remove the bitterness what do you think?
