Their harmonies are unmatched. Maurice, the brother in green, once said about their vocals, One of us is ok. Two of us is good. All three of us is amazing. Something along those lines. They ruled the world for many years.

Gentlemen gentlemen, you have to understand that these guys have been together for 50 years and disco was only three years of that 50. They have written over 1000 songs they started singing in 1958. Their careers went the sixties to seventies to eighties to 90s even into the 2000s until Mo passed away in 2003.

The lead vocalist here is Sir Barry Gibb, the sole surviving Brother Gibb (Bee Gees). He is 77 years old and tonight is one of the Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Honorees-- He's written or co-written (mostly with his two twin brothers, ROBIN and MAURICE) 0VER 1000 published songs. They were born on a little island off England called the Isle of Man, moved 7 years later to Manchester, England, emigrated to Australia about 5 years later for more job opportunities for their father Hugh. Then after 9 years, they sailed back to England in Jan-Feb 1967. To answer your question, they joined the British Invasion of the U.S. of pop-rock artists-- Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who, the Animals, the Hollies, Eric Clapton's Cream,-- and between 1967-1971-Also before and after their Disco phase, Bee Gees had numerous hits as pop, pop,-rock, psychedelic-rock, R&B, country-rock, soul, etc.) artists. They wrote 99.9% of their recorded/ performed songs Several hundred artists have covered their hits (Janis Joplin, Al Green, Elvis Presley, Destiny's Child, Bruce Springsteen, etc.) Members of the Rock and Roll HOF, Songwriters HOF, Grammy Legend and Lifetime Achievement Awards-- You name it, they've won it. Disco Supernovas 1975-79, songwriters (albums they also produced) of hits in the 80's for Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross. Their music have been sampled and mashed-up by big rap, hip-hop artists. Legendary Quincey Jones is a huge fan and particularly considered "Fanny( Be Tender with My Love) a favorite R&B track. Bee Gees, particularly Barry Gibb, have been close friends of Michael Jackson, who is godfather to one of Barry's sons, named after him--Michael Gibb. Also check out "All in His Name" a song co-written and performed by Michael and Barry in early 2000's and released shortly after Jackson's death.

They wrote Too Much Heaven, 'Tragedy', and one for little brother Andy...Shadow Dancing', in the same day, and all 3 were #1 hits. Check out 'Nights On Broadway' for a sample of their regular voices. Even though it's the first song they use their falsettos, in the middle break, Barry comes low and powerful! A real ROCKER! And pay attention to Maurice's bass lines...VERY good! And 'Jive Talkin' has a great bass part as well. Also 'Alone' is another sky-high falsetto fantasy...the official video, with clips of them in studio, meeting people during their career, and goofing around when they were kids is the best version. The guys wrote over a thousand songs, and not a dud in the lot!

I freaking LOVE the BeeGees! I grew up in the 70's & 80's! My teenage Aunt listened to the this music and she would put the radio on in her car and we would dance in the yard! She introduced me to the BG's and KC & the Sunshine band, Journey, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Heart & etc, etc...
My Dad who drove a coal truck had a 8 track and my Dad would listen to country music! All the outlaws of country. Willie, Cash, Waylon and all the "Classic country" but he idolized George Jones. That was his hero. He had every single record that he put out.
Barry Gibbs has Witten/Co written 16 TOP 100 NUMBER 1 songs spanning over 60 years! Six of them were consecutive!
He has written or Co-written over 1,000 songs!
He was inducted to the "Writers Hall of Fame" along with his brothers in 1994.

Just had to drop by when I saw you two were doing the Bee Gees. Love their Motown stuff. They wrote hundreds of songs for other artists, too, including Diana Ross, with Chain Reaction. That main dude is the iconic Barry Gibb. 6 consecutive chart toppers in the US, 100 top 10 hits throughout their career. They wrote More than a Woman for Tavares for Saturday Night Fever, the film...very stylistics type of group. Also collabed on Ross`s Eaten Alive hit with MJ. Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb and MJ wrote and produced the song. The Bee Gees did R & B, funky motown, Rock and even country (Islands in the Stream for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers). Robin Gibb (on the left here, died 2012) described their "disco" music as contemporary R & B. They saw themselves more as songwriters than disco dudes. Perhaps they were both. Emmy awards galore, Hall of Famers R & B and songwriting as well as a career spaning more than 40 years, that stopped only when Maurice Gibb (Robins twin, to the right) passed away suddenly in 2003. Barry Gibb released a tribute to the Bee Gees in 2020/21 (top selling in many countries) featuring duets of many of the Bee Gees most enduring hits with Olivia Newton John. Alison Kraus, Dolly Parton. Keith Urban, Jason Isbell, Sheryl Crow and many more.
    Great Bee Gees songs?
    How Deep is your love
    Jive Talkin
    Stayin Alive
    More than a Woman

    I started a Joke
    Moring of my life

Barry Gibb was the lead singer and the eldest of the three brothers. The twins, Robin and Maurice, had such tight harmonies with Barry that, no matter what time period or genre of music they sang, it was just wonderful to listen to.
The 4th, and youngest of the Gibb brothers, was Andy. He had a career that was just taking off when he died. Andy looked a lot like Barry.
Barry outlived his three siblings. He took some time away from performing, but has since done solo shows. Barry wrote for the Bee Gees, but also wrote hit songs for many other artists.

These brothers used to sing in their bedroom as youngsters and their mother thought her sons accidentally left the radio on! She opened the door to turn the radio off and learned it wasn’t the radio she was hearing! It was awesome seeing Barry’s interview after the Kennedy Center Awards and hearing him say he wasn’t really standing up there alone because he knew his brothers were there. 😢 I can only imagine what it would be like to be able to feel the presence of your lost loved ones! Just beautiful! RIP Robin and Maurice, we love and miss you!🫶

They started recording in the 1960s thru 2012 when Robin died (Maurice died in 2003). Barry (lead singer) still writes, records and performs until a couple of years ago and also mentors young artists. The 3 brothers have been singing and performing together since the late 1950s in Australia when they were kids. That's where they learned to harmonize and no one can match them. They were influenced by soul and R&B. Disco was only about 3 years of their long careers. NO AUTOTUNE ON ANY OF THEIR SONGS. They write their own music - melody, lyrics (really listen to their lyrics which are pure poetry), orchestration and record and perform only their own music. They also wrote for a lot of other big names - Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dionne, Kenny Roger, etc, No one could ever write a love song like the Bee Gees. To me Too Much Heaven is the most perfect love song ever. They were around long before The Brady Bunch and they definitely made the hair and beards cool and sexy.

They considered themselves songwriters first. Even as kids they would challenge themselves to write the next big hit for particular artists. It’s amazing how often you can hear who they were channeling. The stylistic were one of the groups they mentioned as having inspired one of the falsetto songs. Example: BOOGIE CHILD is done in the style of Sly and the Family Stone. Can you hear it?

There is only 1 time in history i have been able to match Barry Gibb`s singing voice,it was way back in mid/late grade school when i had overslept to school, and panicking half asleep,i remember my mom had said "i left your clothes on the dryer! Dont be late today! Okay bye,i have to head for work or im gonna end up being late!" I answered her,but fell asleep again. Woke up,watched the clock and panicked.
Grabbed the clothes on top of the dryer, put them on,grabbed my bag and ran for school. Well i tried anyway, because before i got halfway,i had woken up enough to where it felt like i was being hugged, squeezed and pinched in all the RIGHT and WRONG places, all at once.
I started feeling down my pants, and then it hit me: The ones i had grabbed was a pair i had grown out of,and that my mom originally was gonna give away to a much younger cousin of mine. She had simply put them right next to the clothes i was supposed to grab.
So the rest of the jaywalking to school, was me walking like i really had the bubble guts,i either looked like i had serious backpain or that i needed to do a number 2 really bad,and tried holding it in for everything it was worth!
Everytime i had to stand up from my desk, and people got to watch me walk away,i did hear alot of the girls in my class giggle and nonstop laugh. it must have been a sight for the gods,im telling you! "Look at that dumb teenager down there,he has forcefully strapped on some way too small/tight jeans still being half asleep, how dumb can you get? He didnt even run back to his house to find a decent pair of jeans or some sweatpants!". Nope i didnt,at that point my brain told me that "i couldnt see any other jeans/pants on that dryer,so mom has gone and screwed me over". I thought there was no going back, but apparently there was. A pair of jeans that i did indeed fit,was laying on the dryer too for me to grab,i had simply just seen the wrong pair first and rushed out.
I could have sworn that all day at school,i sounded like Barry,Robin & Maurice sing when i talked. Eddie Murphy later on second my statement in his own standup, with how little it takes for a man to change vocals, just be having theyr nuts strafed/graced.
Im glad all the girls at my school were "overdressed" that day, because any activity downstairs would have gotten me into a foster child position for the remainder of the day.
Quick sidenote: I do love me some Bee Gees .......... musically speaking! 😏(Thats right,i turned my own embarrasing story into the main subject, and the intended subject Bee Gees into a sidenote.... "laugh at my pain! -Kevin Hart")
*Hears Hollywood & Smokey dying of laughter in the background*
You know what the funniest thing about Bee Gees is? When you hear them in interviews, they got those manly voices. So the fact that they hit those notes, must simply be by the size of theyr tight jeans,i will have to second that!
A common favourite song of mine and my mom? Bee Gees - You Win Again (That song will have you boping your heads!)
Its a far more recent song then the 2 songs you have been reacting to.

    Hollywood and Smokey
Man in the middle is Barry Gibb. Barry does his falsetto during Disco Era. But his late brother, Maurice can hit falsetto too. Barry has a wide range of vocal skills. Bee Gees has songs that Barry sings without using falsetto. As others stated here, his brothers: Robin (without beard) and Maurice died many years ago. Robin in 2012 and Maurice in 2003. Barry also had a younger brother as he calls him as his younger twin. Brother was Andy Gibb, who sadly died in 1988 at the age of 30.
Until recently, Barry was touring on his solo career with his son, Stephen "Steve" Gibb on guitar. Steve stated that his father retired from touring.

    • @kthor
      @kthor 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There's no scotch tape on Barry's chest. If it's the shininess you're referring to, that's where he was burned when he was a toddler. He spent over 3 months in the hospital & almost died, & had major scarring from it for life.

    • @waynett8810
      @waynett8810 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Actually, the shiny patches on Barry's chest are scars from when he was horribly scalded as a young toddler. He nearly died. But he was obviously not self-conscious about the scars at all.

    • @kthor
      @kthor 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@waynett8810 I think I'd disagree on Barry not being self-conscious about his scars. He only wore shirts that revealed very little if any of that scarred area, or had them unbuttoned just so. There's very few pics of Barry almost or completely shirtless....couple onstage during the Spirits tour when he had his jacket draped around his neck and some of him & Linda in swimsuits but she's somewhat covering him up. Put it this way.....he prob would've gone shirtless a lot more (& considering how much he'd sweat on stage) if not for the scars.🕺

It is true that disco was only a part of their music in the late seventies, and they did not see them selves as disco but they just wrote R&B/Soul music which somehow got caught up in the disco wave. In the sixties they made rock, beat, pop and a lot of ballads and even had a classical tune called Seven Seas Symphony in 1969. In the early seventies where they in 1971 had their first US number 1 with How Can You Mend A Broken Heart they really went into ballads and experimented also with country and and folk but still had some serious rock tunes like Down The Road and Bad Bad Dreams.
From 1972 to 1974 they were lost because they could not find a way to evolve with their music. Then they hooked up with Arif Mardin and in 1974 and made the album Mr. Natural. It was not a big succes but it was a promise of what to come from 1975 up til 1980.
In 1975 they had their 2nd US number 1 with Jive Talkin' and from their they did not look back. They had 14 number 1's to their name in that periode.
    Jive Talkin' 1975.
    You Should Be Dancing 1976
How Deep Is You Love 1977
    Stayin' Alive 1977
    Night Fever 1977
Love Is Thicker Than Water (Andy Gibb) 1977
I Just Want To Be Your Everything (Andy Gibb) 1977
If I Can't Have You (Yvonne Elliman) 1977
    Shadow Dancing (Andy Gibb) 1978
    Too Much Heaven 1978
    Grease (Frankie Valli) 1978
    Tragedy 1979
    Love You Inside Out 1979
Woman In Love (Barbra Streisand) 1980
Because of their hugh succes there were always a Bee Gees song on the radio in this periode and this made a backlash in the radio stations where they ended up promoting Bee Gees free weekends so other artists could be played. They also got caught in the baccklash of disco that culminated with disco demolition night.
They have 22 studio albums to their name, the first in 1965, the last in 2001.
They have been writing songs for other artists like, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Boyzone, Take That, Destinys Child, Cliff Richard, Bonnie Tyler, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valli, Celine Dion and many more. Many covers has been made of their songs, the one most covered is To Love Somebody with + 200. Elvis Presley covered Words and Status Quo covered Spicks and Specks.
