      If you order paint from any supplier, the paint is always matched to a brand new sample of the leather, worse if its mixed from a recepie. If you do only spot repairs for ex bolster only, then you have have the rest of the leather in older condition, leather also looses the color over years due to UV, dirt etc. So the new color may not match properly, in some cases the difference may be not acceptable. I belive this is the issue you have there. We mix colours ourselves to the leather we will work on , happens that we need to mix 2-3 shades of the color if repairs are on different panels. Also sometimes its impossible to get 100% color match, but we always match it to get as close as possible match so the repair will look right.

    Nice job! How many layers of Top Coat was? Do you think that will be a good ideea to apply new Colourlock TopLife for a better resistence after this? Thank you

    • @OCDDetailing2021

      Thank you! I usually apply 4-5 thin layers of the to top coat, and extra 2 on the bolsters. Top Life will improve it.

      @@OCDDetailing2021After Colourlock TopCoat, I used Gyeon Leather Shield and the result was catastrophic. After 700km long trip, the restored upholstery withe natural leather from a X6 BMW began very sticky. I don't know why...maybe chemistry/incompatibility, maybe the sun. (because only to front seats I saw this), maybe I didn't wait 7-8 days between Colourlock and Gyeon.
      I'm looking for an alternarive now for a better protection than Leather Shield and TopLife could be one and I will try. Thanks again.

      @@irinaagnes1250 its possible that there was a reaction between the products, I usually apply leather conditioner after restoration ( minimum 24 hours) , and advise owners to use Shield etc , after the first cleaning, so far touch wood, no problem.

    can you advise the rough cost for doing both seats?

    • @OCDDetailing2021
      @OCDDetailing2021  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cost of repair varies between 150 -200 euro per seat, depending on the condition of the seat, whether the stitching is the same color as the leather etc.

      @OCDDetailing2021  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@christopherbutts3346 in the case of these seats the stitiching is in very similiar color as the leather, in those cases i spry all, the paint sticks to the stitching as well, so it will not come of, if the stitching is in contrasted color i mask it before spraying to preserve the color.

    I heard the filler and stuff wears off the more you sit on them
    Is it genuinely true. Please someone be honest?

    • @OCDDetailing2021

      Nothing is pemanent, however there are a lot of stories about these repairs saying that they dont last at all, i do this service for the last few years and once the process is done corectly, the finish will last for a few years before it will start to wear again, that applies mainly to the color, not to filler. Many different factors are involved in the lasting of repair. The proces and quality of products are the most important, however it also depends whether the car is used daily or casually, also after care. So there is not realy a simple answear to this question.

      I did the seats on a Jaguar XJ6 some 28 years ago, a totally renovated very special car. Admittedly more admired than driven but it is amazing to see how well that job stands up to time.. Products used from a company called Leather Master that color-matched and supplied everything. Did apply the paint with a natural sponge in 6 thin layers and the 4 semi gloss clearcoats with a very fine soft lacquer brush.
      I remember even repairing a puncture with some glue they supplied. Fantastic stuff, repaired several cuts to a very expensive leather coat after having an accident falling on gravel, still have also that coat and it looks like the animal supplying the leather had several scares ..
      Try it and work a lot on getting everything clean as always the prep work defines the result!
      Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching your work!!
