Hey guys, just to answer a few questions in the comments: This was a junkyard seat used for a demonstration video firstly showing a full repair for the bottom part of the seat and then a blend repair on the top part of the seat as a comparison to show and explain both these processes. As mentioned, this is a repair of leather itself, not a replacement or reupholstering of leather, and how long it will last will depend on many factors including how well the repair was undertaken, how bad the damage is to start with, how well the seat is maintained and how it is used, so it could be a matter of months or years to a lifetime depending on those factors. I’m not affiliated with any leather repair system, I don’t sell these products or profit from their sale, it was a pure and simple demonstration video that I hope many of you enjoy! Lastly, if the leather is perforated, it is possible to use this process but you will have to use a thin sharp tool to recreate the perforations at the end.
To think I came across this because my new car has an inch long light scratch on my passenger side leather seat. I was so intrigued that I watched the whole video to see what happened and I was amazed! That is one heck of a job you did there with that junkyard seat! Very impressive 👏
I'm a easel painting restorer with 40 years of work. Some improvements that I can suggest - Do the job outside in natural light, but not direct sunlight , cabrio cars will show the leather colors in natural light , shop lights are not natural light. - Do the filling phase adding some color to the fill material so it will match the more the seat colors, if not after you'll need to use more paint to cover the fill color. - All the resins of these products are acrylic resin, the resin can be diluted in solvents or be emulsionated with water, so water based products are still acrylic. - To find the right mix of colors use the "color wheel" of substractive color system , if a paint is to much red add green, if too yellow add violet, too blue add orange and so on - The spot area color test showed in the video is too small and the screen should have an irregular shape or your eye will tend to identify the paint spot created .

@bina nocht More informations would help. Year in wich they were painted. Size of the paintings and the diameter of the roll. Basically linseed oil films of paintings become "hard" because of two chemical process , oxydation and polymerisation, the complete process can take up to 100 years. You must consider the paint film of your canvas as material that is subject to plastic deformation (rolled) and natural aging, over time . To revert the plastic deformation , you can use , time, heat and solvents that will "soften" the paint layer , water, or ethyl alcool in example. Solvents should be used in vapor state, so leave this to professionals. You should provide a roll of large diameter, at least 50 cm, wood, cardboard, plastic, keep the roll horizontall, fix an edge of your painting at the roll and let the rest of painting hanging. Time and gravity should do the job. Be patient it can take up to days or weeks. You can speed up the process with an hair dryer. Paint layers will stand heat up to 50° C, that correspond to humans limit of pain, so now you have a quick reference.
I do not have leather seats, but I came across this video and within the first minute you had my attention. This is how all "how-to" videos should be done. Excellent job!

I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to do this, but I think this is the way to go. I think it will last a long time, with that being said I give it a five star. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice video. You care far more than most repairers which is great to see and obviously take pride in your work. I’ve been doing these repairs for many years on very high end cars and have seen lots of terrible work. A couple of comments which may be of use to you. 1) consider using a wider spray pattern on your spray gun. It blends better and is less likely to streak. 2) you should consider using fine sandpaper (2000 grit) between coats of color. It removes dry overspray and gives a better finish 3) I’ve found those heat activated vinyl repairs often produce a hard finish when cured which doesn’t bend well with leather. I prefer to use a leather binder 4) as you rightly said, color matching is difficult. The color you make changes based on how many coats you put on. A thin single coat will blend easier with the existing leather, but if you are covering up filler repairs, you will need to do several coats, so be careful when comparing your mixed up color. 5) you have not used any clear coat on top of the color. This extends the life of the repair immensely and allows you to mix the right level of sheen between gloss and Matt finish. In my experience, different leathers have very different levels of sheen. So a one size fits all approach doesn’t work. That being said, I’ve been working on cars worth several hundred thousand dollars, so the owners can afford the extra labor. Most owners of standard cars cannot, so a simpler approach is warranted and practical. Well done and keep up the good work.
I have a seat that is not nearly as worn as that. Just now showing the bare leather in tiny small places. What grit sandpaper do you use for the initial prep sanding...still 2000 grit? 600 does seem a bit much.
@@Warrendiehl I’ve just taken a quick look at their fillers. They appear to have an excellent selection. Flexible and sandable fillers are important. I’ve been using products from Furniture Clinic but I’m sure Fitz’s products are of an equally high standard.

The repair areas look excellent, If I was the customer I would have asked for the entire seat repaired, it looks very similar to brand new, this is a great example of how amazing restoration can be..
I have black Leather seats in my Car. I have been using ordinary liquid Shoe polish. The cheapo type that comes in a bottle with a sponge dabber on top. None of my Leather has cracked or worn out. I also use the same stuff on a brown Leather suite in my living room. Works brilliantly and keeps it looking pristine.
Oh dang he’s good with the color matching! I would’ve just gone with the first color swatch like a dummy afraid to mess up the whole batch being too nit picky 🙄🤦♀️ lol but in reality I don’t know a darn thing about this & his knowledge & expertise shine as the second swatch is perfect! Woohoo! Nice job.
As you rightly mentioned the repair costs are sky high due to the cost per hide and the skill set required to obtain a factory finish.However there are synthetic replacement i.e symphony material that has the look and feel of leather with a u.v and mildew resistance that would last up to five years with normal care,thanks for the leather treatment vid Cedric from Trinidad and Tobago

I would not have thought that was repairable. This is what's called "professional" restoration. That seat looked like it was pulled from the junk yard after 10 years exposed to the full weather. Very good work and demonstation!

Very cool. Thank you. I think the biggest problem is no one maintains anything anymore. Seats will always wear out but just simple cleaning and conditioning can extend the life immensely

So far one of the best video's I've seen on repairing leather seats. The drivers seat in my 6 year old BMW looks almost as bad. I bought a dye kit and will be trying this out soon.
Great stuff, I'm in the process of restoring some seats and this has really helped, especially the technique of filling the cracks, i didn't have a teeny tiny trowel to apply the filler so a wooden icepop stick had to do :)
If you are comfortable using the lolly stick you will probably get better results than trying to use the artists trowel, plus being wood it's more textured than the metal trowel.

That looks really great. We have a couch that was going to get tossed out to the garbage because the leather is peeling off as flakes. But I had my roommates put it in the garage and now I use it just about everyday as my lounging office. But its flaking down to the cross pattern fabric now. I might give this a try.
We have leather furniture that is cracking and drying out, as well as our front car seats. I thought leather would be easier to keep clean and hold up a lot longer than cloth upholstered furniture and car seats, but I found that if you don’t properly care for the leather, like your showing, and more maintenance to prevent the drying and cracking, in the first place, by keeping the leather cleaned and regularly conditioned properly. We are sorry we didn’t know how often we should condition the leather items we’ve had, and so we have a lot of work to try and repair our living room couch, Love seat, and chair, as well as our two front seats in our car! I hope we can try these products and fix our leather. We are definitely learning we need to put a lot more into the care of leather care to keep it soft, conditioned and strong so it does sent dry and crack. Thank you for showing all the steps that you are showing to restore these seats to better than they were, a whole lot of elbow Greece labor involved too! Question? If you have a complete crack through the leather, is there some product that will mold over and blend the area of leather to wear you can get it smoothed out and. Not seeing the cracks and small thinning lines, is this possible, to fill in places and smooth areas, to make it at least a whole not better! How much or how often, should we be cleaning and conditioning our leather furniture and car seats? Also, are we able to buy the products we need for repairing both our car seats and our leather furniture? Of course, besides the colors, one is tan about the same color as your car seat, and then we would need a Chocolate brown for furniture. I have one more question, there’s a long back piece of the leather that’s come unsewn, and we tried stitching it where it needs to be joined back in at least he top of the couch on one side, we couldn’t do it, the leather is thick and we need to find someone that does leather upholstery, so, if you know anyone or can help us know your recommendations, we would really appreciate any ideas! Wow! I have a Avalon 2001 with leather seats. It could sure use this set of repairs. I don't know if I could do this well or not, but I think I will give it a try. The seats couldn't look worse...

Amazing job Sandro ! I've never seen a system quite like this. I maintain a fleet of cars from 1905-1910 that are displayed in a soon to open to the public museum. I am going to have the owner check out this video in hopes that he has me do this on some of the cars in his collection. He does like to have the originality of all of the cars, as all of them are very valuable and keeping them original is always a consideration. When I make my video series on restoring leather I will credit you and your channel to introducing this system to me. You are an artist and I aspire to reach up to your skills in detailing !

Very well produced DIY video, unlike 95% of others on TH-cam. If you don't continue in detailing, you could absolutely do video production. I wasn't going to repair my favorite office chair to this extent (too far gone) but, I watched the whole video.

That looks really great. We have a couch that was going to get tossed out to the garbage because the leather is peeling off as flakes. But I had my roommates put it in the garage and now I use it just about everyday as my lounging office. But its flaking down to the cross pattern fabric now. I might give this a try.

We have leather furniture that is cracking and drying out, as well as our front car seats. I thought leather would be easier to keep clean and hold up a lot longer than cloth upholstered furniture and car seats, but I found that if you don’t properly care for the leather, like your showing, and more maintenance to prevent the drying and cracking, in the first place, by keeping the leather cleaned and regularly conditioned properly. We are sorry we didn’t know how often we should condition the leather items we’ve had, and so we have a lot of work to try and repair our living room couch, Love seat, and chair, as well as our two front seats in our car! I hope we can try these products and fix our leather. We are definitely learning we need to put a lot more into the care of leather care to keep it soft, conditioned and strong so it does sent dry and crack. Thank you for showing all the steps that you are showing to restore these seats to better than they were, a whole lot of elbow Greece labor involved too!
Question? If you have a complete crack through the leather, is there some product that will mold over and blend the area of leather to wear you can get it smoothed out and. Not seeing the cracks and small thinning lines, is this possible, to fill in places and smooth areas, to make it at least a whole not better! How much or how often, should we be cleaning and conditioning our leather furniture and car seats? Also, are we able to buy the products we need for repairing both our car seats and our leather furniture? Of course, besides the colors, one is tan about the same color as your car seat, and then we would need a Chocolate brown for furniture. I have one more question, there’s a long back piece of the leather that’s come unsewn, and we tried stitching it where it needs to be joined back in at least he top of the couch on one side, we couldn’t do it, the leather is thick and we need to find someone that does leather upholstery, so, if you know anyone or can help us know your recommendations, we would really appreciate any ideas! Wow! I have a Avalon 2001 with leather seats. It could sure use this set of repairs. I don't know if I could do this well or not, but I think I will give it a try. The seats couldn't look worse...

Wow! I am watching a vintage swivel 1960/70s leather armchair on Ebay at the moment. It has wear just similar to this leather car seat. I'm going to bid on it after seeing this repair. I am v confident. Nancy Traynor

Amazing job Sandro ! I've never seen a system quite like this. I maintain a fleet of cars from 1905-1910 that are displayed in a soon to open to the public museum. I am going to have the owner check out this video in hopes that he has me do this on some of the cars in his collection. He does like to have the originality of all of the cars, as all of them are very valuable and keeping them original is always a consideration. When I make my video series on restoring leather I will credit you and your channel to introducing this system to me. You are an artist and I aspire to reach up to your skills in detailing !
