Hello everyone. Just a quick update for 2022 since I'm not going to make another video. There was a bios update that erased my settings. The temps started to creep back up again. This time however I wasn't able to add the setting back like before. I did a few things to get back to playing comfortably again. The first thing I did was update to windows 11. I was still in 2022 waiting for the update in setting to hit but it didn't. I went to this link www.howtogeek.com/767274/how-to-force-the-windows-11-update-and-upgrade-immediately/ and just followed the instruction. Windows 11 seems to have fixed the problem. i didn't even need to use TCC at all. The other thing I did was invest in the IETS GT5000 cooling pad. Temps went down dramatically. Playing FFVII Remake with it at max would have me playing at temps of high 50 low 60. Where if I ran it at med would have me at high 60 low 70. This while fans were on balance. I highly recommend it. Just wanted to pin this here for an update in case someone new comes around looking for information. Have a good one.
I didn’t mention it in the video but if you go into your bios you can change the tcc. It goes up to 15. This will make it so your temperature doesn’t go over a certain amount. It defaults to zero so your cpu can run up to 100. Each number subtracts from that 100. So if you put the tcc to 15 you max temps will be 85. Now if you change max processor state to 99% I think you will find the temps to be good to go.
Thanks for this one brother. I have been using Ryzen Controller to limit the temperature on mine but I am going into my Bios when I get home and doing that right away. They can run HOT AF. I have the 5900HX model w/3070, 32GB ram, 1TB 360hz FHD panel. Great little laptop for gaming when video cards are impossible to snag and the prices are gone bonkers. Just wish it ran cooler and had a vapour chamber cooling solution
I applied liquid metal conductonaut. Now I can say the uneven contact between heatsink and cpu core is problem. #1,3,5,7 cores hit 100c while others only hit 75 on cinebench r20. Im going to use 0.5mm copper shim, and remove the LM.
Great work and thanks for sharing, question, how is the battery life on this machine i keep seeing different results from everyone. With this fix have you seen better battery life, thanks
Hey guys, I figured it out by myself, support could not help in fact they said that I won’t be able to do it with Ryzen. This setting hidden by windows so you have to active it through registry. I think I’m gonna make a video on how to fix it
Changing the max processor state to 99 will lower performance a lot when running cpu intensive games. I changed mine to 99 and in shadow of the tomb raider I went from 105 fps all the way down to like 80 something. You're better off undervolting and lowering the boost clocks if you don't want to take a huge performance hit.
@@buddyluh Idk I sold my laptop lol. There's plenty of guides on youtube though. Just search your model.I got a new laptop that doesn't get hot. Dell just has bad cooling.
could you also share your reddit post on the details how you tweak the power settings? I disable processor power boost and on idle it runs at around 55 degree, while gaming around 75-85 degree.
It basically described what I described here. Dropping the minimum processing state to 5% and dropping the max to somewhere around 85 to 90% will get your temps down. At which point you can play with the max until you get your desire temps. The main focus of the video and reddit post was to show that dell left out power setting on the r5.
@@killademan Thank you so much, now i added the minimum and maximum states, found out that my minimum processor state is 80%. After tweaking this now my laptop also runs around 45% in idle.

FYI you kinda sound like Jay Z lol. I did something similar to this except I just enabled minimum and max processor state in Registry instead of calling Dell/Alienware and waiting for them. If anyone needs help with that let me know, its pretty easy.
Lol first time hearing that. Good to hear you figured out a solution that worked for you. Hopefully people look at the comments and see there are many ways to fix these minor problems with this laptop. I kind of hate all the negativity it has been getting, but unfortunately it’s deserved. No product should leave the factory with so many things missing. With that being said, I love this laptop.
@@killademan this is not only a problem with Dell, my workplace burnt out an Acer overnight processing data due to this and I had to use this setting on an Asus TUF A15, it's pretty much any laptop will benefit greatly from the reduced temps of 99% Max CPU which switches off CPU turbo boost.
I got it today. Looks like temp issues are resolved by itself. I have new windows 11 on it by default. But performance isn't there. I got just 102 fps on shadow of the tomb raider. Looks like ryzen 7 5800h model is getting better. How is ur performance? Max temp I am getting is 80c
Good day. I explained in the video that when I got my laptop it was missing some power settings. Mainly processor power management. I stated that I had dell add them in. When I went into the added setting to make changes, I noticed the minimum processor state was 100%. Max was at 100% as well. Meaning your processor stays at 100%. Which draws a lot of power. Which brings heat. When I drop the minimum down to 5% my heat problems was gone. I also drop the max down some. Hope this helps.
