I think the most likely contender for "first 100 year game" is Tetris. The game is still played regularly by millions ever since it was first developed 40 years ago. New Tetris games still regularly come out which are still very similar to the original Electronika 80 version, typically containing the same core mechanics with only occasional game mechanic introductions. Even if you don't count new releases of Tetris as being the same game as the original, Tetris on the NES released 35 years ago still has a massive, dedicated mainstream playerbase, to the point where new Tetris NES records are even covered by mainstream news outlets. However, I think eventually Tetris NES will be seen as a "completed game" with no real room for improvement, like Super Mario Bros. is seen today. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Some games were created like a single game but became a type of game (like snake and almost tetris) so with all the clones minecraft has it's what minecraft could become... Also Cesar said that the roman empire will be during 1000 years and and it lasted about 1500 years so it could.
I'm not a lawyer, but microsoft would just try to copyright every new version separately and argue in court that only versions that have existed for at least 95 years are public domain. So the beta versions might be public domain, but you'd have to wait a few years before release versions start becoming public domain and if anyone tried to backport newer features to an older public domain version, they'd get sued for using features that are still protected by copyright. This is assuming Microsoft even still cares in a century (and the human race hasn't gone extinct by then which is a big possibility).
TF2 is nearly 20 years old and is at the point where I don't think any of the original team that made are still working on it (or at least very few are), but the game is still doing really well due to the community and the few that still maintain the game. This is what will probably happen with Minecraft at some point, very few major updates but still some updates here and there to fix bugs and add in some new content.
Timeline 4: Everyone gets so fed up with Mojang for some of the silly mistakes they make ( like no dbd files) and the game dies the second Hytale comes out.
Keep dreaming, Hytale Will be shit and Terraria will always be Minecraft enemy ain't no way hytale will take the place of Minecraft and not even terraria
I think that, in the not so distant future, there will be a lot more games similar to Minecraft. What name should we give to a genre of procedurally generated voxel games? I know it's said that Minecraft is a sandbox, but I feel like it's something more, there needs to be a more specific name to this category
Gridbox? That's the only name I think of (Grid because Minecraft and other voxel based games are usually made entirely or partially of a grid system of blocks, box because of sandbox.)
"minecraft clones" as they are usually reffered to as for obvious reasons arent a new thing. i dont see a particular reason they will have an uptick in releases in the distant future, as plenty have tried in the not too distant past back when minecraft was extremely popular but less cemented in culture, and all have failed. i dont really see a reason more of them will come out in the distant future since its such an old trend that did not work out before. maybe new devs being mad at the "slow" development of minecraft? but even then they're more likely to make a mod to overhaul the game than to start from scratch
@@Sopsy_Hallow the reason I believe it will eventually happen is because Minecraft is the perfect game formula, it might take years till there's another game like it, since it's a thecnically difficult thing to do, but there will be. Pretty much everything that exists in a world can be changed and interacted with, you can build pretty much anything, you have influence over it within the game, and it has influence over you, unlike something like TS, which gives you some freedom to build, but you are some god-like, unaffected entity. Minecraft is what the metaverse or second life wish they were
Minecraft is a effectively Perfect sandbox, It simply can’t die, because its content is never ending, as we age and die, new people get into Minecraft where that new world is started once again, Even if it has moslty maintenance updates, its brand new to someone, and its nostalgic to others, it is a eternally passing of the torch that no other game has, Even with Mods, the major ones are passed down onto new developers when the original is finished, Its art style is also timeless, its graphics can’t age like a realistic game’s will cause it isn’t settijg itself to a standard, and if its art ever does become out dated the textures can be swapped again, And realistically as long as Mojang doesn’t snuff the flame by killing Modding or other community related things, the Torch will live on and be passed on, In 100 years technology is not going to advance to the point a Desktop is foreign, VR won’t be the main way to enjoy things, and Neuralink is for people with disabilities (that specific is kinda like saying “Wheelchairs remove the need to use our legs, all legs will help replaced by wheelchairs”), Things will be different, but we aren’t discovering magic differentc, Also that “your life will Minecraft come real” is also achieved by mushrooms,
I dont think the core gameplay would change that much. But the rest of the game will change. Some stuff thats likely to happen during this 100 year period: Java edition will stop being updated and most likely will be open sourced. Creepers, Pigs and other basic mobs will have overhauled, more aggressive monetization, Capybaras and other cool animals added. more structures, already existing ones will be overhauled too. Thats what i see.
At some point my guess is that instead of focusing updates on the core game, they’ll start to put more resources into external things such as completely new in game ideas (like realms or servers). Just generally more things to do inside of the game. They will bloat the game even if they added the lowest ever rate of stuff
but what does "existing" even mean? does it need to actively be developed? does someone, somewhere still have to be playing it? does there just simply need to exist a single copy of the game somewhere in the universe?
I think Minecraft will stop updating eventually, probably the last version being 2.0. But, the community will probably stay strong because a lot of children play, there is always new youtubers and new mods, but I think eventually it will die down, but definitely it's not going to be forgotten

What name should we give to a genre of procedurally generated voxel games? I know it's said that Minecraft is a sandbox, but I feel like it's something more, there needs to be a more specific name to this category
Gridbox?
That's the only name I think of
(Grid because Minecraft and other voxel based games are usually made entirely or partially of a grid system of blocks, box because of sandbox.)
@@senti_nl that's a really good name, I like it
"minecraft clones" as they are usually reffered to as for obvious reasons arent a new thing. i dont see a particular reason they will have an uptick in releases in the distant future, as plenty have tried in the not too distant past back when minecraft was extremely popular but less cemented in culture, and all have failed.
i dont really see a reason more of them will come out in the distant future since its such an old trend that did not work out before. maybe new devs being mad at the "slow" development of minecraft? but even then they're more likely to make a mod to overhaul the game than to start from scratch
Minecraft is what the metaverse or second life wish they were
1:26 that's already the case, the amount of straight up Minecraft clones is genuinely in the 1000s minimum.
love the video!
I mean, what is the future? The video is 1 day old so am I living in the future?
Bro finally remembered his youtube password
YES Best mc youtuber is BACKKK
The fact that this video was posted 8 days before the very radical change of September 9th...
Minecraft never dies
Timeline 4: Mojang finally makes Minecraft 2.0, a whole new game. Wouldn’t that renew the copyright?
as someone from 4864 minecraft is real life now and steve is in my closet waiting for me to fall asleep
my timeline is 9/1/2106 and what exactly is minecraft?
I do think thst MC would still be around for It is a game where you can do anything
Mods commands build roleplay explore code
Its a special game
"your life will minecraft come real"
if you add an "in" at the start then the sentence makes a lot more sense
I need to stay alive and be able to see minecraft enter the public domain
Minecraft java edition is source available software. Java is easy to decompile, and mojang has been shipping deobfuscation mappings since 1.14
if i dont get to witness the last update i’ll be so pissed in hell
0:00 to skip the ads
???
the timeline im living in is 27 minutes ago
I’m in the future in 2024 right now i can say that Minecraft is still very much alive
I kind of hope Minecraft doesn’t live for 100 years. Die a hero, live long enough to become the villain, that sort of thing.
I’m living in the future 10 years.
things that will happen
Minecraft movie 2
new dimension
I am turned into a Minecraft block
Fresh SMP aka the most pay to win server
I come from the future, and let me tell you, someone will build an ai inside of minecraft.
Minecraft is a effectively Perfect sandbox,
It simply can’t die, because its content is never ending, as we age and die, new people get into Minecraft where that new world is started once again,
Even if it has moslty maintenance updates, its brand new to someone, and its nostalgic to others, it is a eternally passing of the torch that no other game has,
Even with Mods, the major ones are passed down onto new developers when the original is finished,
Its art style is also timeless, its graphics can’t age like a realistic game’s will cause it isn’t settijg itself to a standard, and if its art ever does become out dated the textures can be swapped again,
And realistically as long as Mojang doesn’t snuff the flame by killing Modding or other community related things, the Torch will live on and be passed on,
In 100 years technology is not going to advance to the point a Desktop is foreign, VR won’t be the main way to enjoy things, and Neuralink is for people with disabilities (that specific is kinda like saying “Wheelchairs remove the need to use our legs, all legs will help replaced by wheelchairs”),
Things will be different, but we aren’t discovering magic differentc,
Also that “your life will Minecraft come real” is also achieved by mushrooms,
we DO have to wait 100 years for blucubed to upload again though
5:52 lol
Hey guys I'm a time traveler from 544513, we are on different plant right now but Minecraft is still getting updated
According to "Ready Player One" Minecraft has one of the biggest presences in the Oasis.
I didn't know that!
My timeline is August 24th 2024 5:54 PM lmao
2:56 are you seriously promoting a pay to win server bruh
what if my life will minecraft come real?!?!?
Minecraft is the best game
-guy from 2124
but what does "existing" even mean? does it need to actively be developed? does someone, somewhere still have to be playing it? does there just simply need to exist a single copy of the game somewhere in the universe?
I think Minecraft will stop updating eventually, probably the last version being 2.0. But, the community will probably stay strong because a lot of children play, there is always new youtubers and new mods, but I think eventually it will die down, but definitely it's not going to be forgotten
My head canon is they end at 1.99 just to make the people who want a 2.0 mad
Cool video!
With dedicated community, good updates (or devs keep updates the game) then I think so
Nice video!
