Tip: If you use patches that was made on the DX7 and find that it doesn’t sound the same as on the hardware: The MIDI output of the DX7 sends velocity between 0 - 127 but the sound engine on the DX7 only takes 0 -100. Unfortunately Dexed doesn’t compensate for that, so you have to scale the velocity in the DAW. (Not the best explanation I know, but it’s hard to write on a small comment field on the phone. ☺️)
As a Dutch guy myself, not that it matters, since I have Sytrus in FL Studio, which can load all DX7 patches, I removed DEXED from my library. You showed me I was right to do so. It's a great beginners synth when starting with FM synthesis but there are way better FM synths out there able to do not only exactly the same but way better. I mean DEXED does what it promises but it absolutely lacks finesse producing smooth sounds in an easy way. Again, a great starters synth to understand FM synthesis. You absolutely did your best showing this for anyone who needs a free DX7 clone for free so thumbs up!
I love Sytrus, I think it's FL's most powerful synth, too bad the interface is a bit less intuitive. What other FM synths do you recommend? FM8 has plenty of options but it's time they updated it to modern standards. There's also the Halion one which looks cool, but haven't tried it yet.
@@optoproductions hybrid synths like the free Vital are absolutely right now the thing to experience. Surge XT comes next as it is maybe over complete. Both handle FM more intuitive

Yes you're absolutely right! Thanks for the tip. I just made a video about the DX7 where I explain this :)
Dexed is a great vst. If you get into FM, U-he's Bazille is a beast too.

Thank you for this tutorial!!!
Fantastic!!!
can you give us those Melvin R Custom syx presets? :)
I can't give away all of my secrets 😉
@@optoproductions maaaan :( some real dope sounds in there
Most mario party 2 songs are made from this vst
Nice 😁
the installer does not give me an option to install it in a DAW vst folder so its useless
Move the .dll file or vst3 file manually and point to that folder in your DAW
People been using dexed for 20 years, bruh. It's a solid instrument. Just drag the files into your plugin folder. You'll be fine.
If that's what's stopping you from using one of the best plugins out there, it's not the plugin that is useless.
Is it really free?
Why wouldn't it be? Just check the link.
